I have some signs in my shop that kind of express my philosophy for the work I do there. I posted one in a thread and it got some comments. I got to wondering what kind of signs others have in their shops.
I'll start it off with these... The Archery Philosophy one has only been up for a couple of years, but Regarding Deadlines has been on the wall for at least 40, since back when I was building rifles, then ventriloquist figures...
A Simple Philosophy
1. A bow is just a spring that throws a stick. Don't complicate it.
2. A good bow is one with which a good hunter can kill his quarry at an ethical distance.
3. An ethical distance is one at which a good hunter has absolutely no doubt whatsoever of the outcome.
4. A good hunter is one who is able to able to get within an ethical distance before he will even consider shooting.
5. Speed does not kill. Death is a message carried by the arrow. If the above philosophy is followed,, it will arrive.
Regarding Deadlines...
I work in my shop to relax. I have only two deadlines: "Within a Year" and "A Long Time". Small jobs are generally completed within a year, unless I just can't seem to get to them, in which case they may take a long time. Large jobs always take a long time, unless they intrigue me, in which case I may complete them within a year. If it is necessary that you know when your job will be completed, count on a long time.

On a tree outside our shop reads: trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be violated.
What makes it so interesting is that it was purchased and put there by my WIFE!
I've noticed that many women fall into a shoot first attitude. Then you can't prove them wrong :)

My dad has a sign at the end of his driveway. It reads "If you can read this sign, you are within range".

I got this sign years ago from an Indian gift shop in Canada. It hangs just inside the front door of my shop. I never had a problem with shop lifting...I don't know if it was the sign or the fact that traditional archers are good and honest people.. :dunno: Over the years it's been good for some laughs.. :D

If you can't see my mirrors...it's cause I don't have any.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run to outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
