Well the 1st Annual KY Tradfest was Fantastic! The KTBA did a great job with this event and I'm glad I got to go even if just for a day. The KTBA did a wonderful job setting up this event. The location....Beautiful. The amount of space for camping, parking, and for vendor set-up...Plenty of room. The weather, (aside from the evil wind, which wreaked havoc on all of the vendors and campers tents), was great, blue skies a few clouds and lots of sunshine. Ok enough rambling and away we go with pics. I'll post a few, then tell a little about them then re-post with more pics. I hope you enjoy.
A view of the Pavillon tent where you could relax, get a bite to eat and sit down for a few.

THIS IS ALSO THE T-SHIRT I BOUGHT AND LEFT AT THE KY TRADFEST DUE TO TAKING TOO MANY PICS.
Yes that's right I got too engrossed in the picture taking and talking that I left my Large Gray Big Jim t-shirt at the Tradfest...I was devastated when I got home and realized it was gone. :banghead:
I will keep it coming asI get more pics uploaded.
Anyone know who this fella is...I know you're thinking I'm crazy...ANOTHER TG member quiz...YEP!
I hear he's a real wheelin', dealin', knife makin', story tellin' heck of a good guy.
And it's all true. For those that do not know this guy it's KOGER. I finally got to meet him and he's a great guy. I got to check out some of his knives and they are some scary sharp and nice looking knives. Sadly I was invited to dinner with KOGER (Elk burgers on the fire), but was unable to make it due to my drive-time and a promise to a beautiful lady (MY WIFE), that I would be home at a certain time. Sorry KOGER I would have loved to try some of that Elk, hopefully next time I can join you for dinner. Thanks for the invite.
I'll keep this coming as fast as I can. I hope for those who couldn't make it are able to feel like they were there. Missed all who couldn't make it, but I look forward to getting to meet more of you in the years to come.
My son and I were there, and got to talk bows with lots of people. We bought a few knives, walked the target course set up in the woods, and got to see some really good shooters, and a few that shoot alot like I shoot, lol.
It was alot of fun for sure, except for that gosh awful wind.
Ok so no more quizes...At least for now.... :readit: but here are some of the other folks and vendors at the KY Tradfest. So here we go.

Big and Lil Jake in the back and Jaime and Desirae, (sorry if I spelled the girls names wrong). Lil Jake and the ladies ran the thrower, well at least they ran it when they weren't shootin' at it (LOL)!!! They were also nice enough to allow me a little time in the Pavillion tent to chat and have a bite to eat with them. Thanks for the company and the hospitality.
Thanks for the picts John. It was a fantastic shoot and I for one am looking forward to next year already.
KTBA guys did a fantastic job.
A few more pics of the aerial machine in action.

This little girl was just sooo proud of her little pig target that she got from Big Jim. I asked her if she was gonna take it home and shoot at it...Wish you'd have been there for the response it was too funny.
I'm gonna include pics in my next post for all you Foodies. Man was the potluck food good.
So here's a shot of a few of the KTBA member's cookin' up a few yummy morsels on the grill.

More to come!!!
After dinner entertainment was great. What's better in the Bluegrass State of KY than Bluegrass??? Not much that I can think of other than some Trad shooting to go with it. I'll add a video as well, (I'll try at least)
And here's about a minute of the Bluegrass sorry for the low quality.

I'll have just a few more pics and then I'm done posting for the Saturday that I was there. I hope that others will post their pics and comments here as well.
I'll finish my pics off with a few more TG members that I got to meet.
Here's Passthru and Derwood eatin' a little dessert after the potluck pitch-in.

Thanks to the KTBA for hosting such a great event, and I hope that they'll do this again next year. Thanks to all of the vendors and TG members who helped promote this event, I had an absolutely WONDERFUL time.
I am suprised your camera is still alive after taking pics of my ugly mug. Good to meet you John, all my buds and I had a great time, good fellowship, great food, good crowds, and pretty good weather overall. I just rolled in and unloaded my stuff. Thanks for all the customers that bought my knives and assorted other doo-dadds, glad to get to meet so many tradgangers, looking forward to next year already. Sam.
It was fantastic for sure!
I had a "BIG TIME"...Got to hang with Koger & Jeff Roark ,Eric, Kirby & "D" all weekend..as good a fellars as you gonna meet & some darn good shots...
That Koger is something else..I'm the owner of a new osage knife he made & he sent my son home with a pocket knive & my daughter some homemade summersausage...both my younguns think them fellars are it...Thank ya a bunch Sam...
Was good to finally meet Tom Jenkins & Jake with the aerial launcher seemed to be a big hit as well as his Can Cooker cooking at the pot luck Saturday night.
Really hated to see the weekend come to an end.I've got a few pictures I'll try to get up later..Looking forward to the next one......
Mike it was great to see you again, and them two great kids of yours. That boys is a shooter, dis better on the long targets than the short ones, the wildlife is gonna be in trouble soon! And any girl as cute as yours, and who likes summer sausage as good as she does is just alright with me. It is a pleasure to see kids that have been raised right today, especially after the ones I work with. It was great hanging with you and the younguns, and chewing the fat at the campfire. Next time we need knee boots, cause it can get pretty deep around there. Hope you like your knife. Sam.
I am quite disappointed that I couldn't be a part of this.
Thank you for sharing. Must have been a wonderful time.
Ok have more time now. It was great to meet you to Mark as well as Doug Catlett. Sorry again about shooting together Doug. I plan on making most the KTBA shoots this year so hopefully we can do it soon. It was also great meeting Bill and Tracy at Zipper. They were like meeting family and I could have talked with them all day. I have to get my hands on a SXT before next year so they will talk to me again. Met a few other TG members and it was enjoyable talking trad stuff. Next year we need to have a meet and greet time set up so we can all mingle. All those folks walking around it's hard to know who's who.
Also need to thank Big Jim for adding the beaver grip to my bow. If I would have known what that entailed I never would have asked him to do that at a show. He had much more important things to attend to but didn't hesitate to do it for me when asked. Good people he and his clan.
It was an awesome event! Enjoyed shooting with TJ as always.. It was a great time.. I wish I could have camped ans spent both days there...
Love these get together's!!! I hate I'm gonna miss the CTA shoot I really enjoy the food the most!
really glad it came off well!!! We wanted to be there buta family emergency put a end to it this year , but are planning on next year.
Everything really came together at this one!! Looking forward to next year.
Looks like a good time! You heading to Clarksville this year?
Well Bryan if you're asking me I'm not sure yet whether or not I'm gonna make it to Clarksville. I am gonna try to make it there and am really gonna try to make Cloverdale, since it's only about 45 minutes from my house. If I do get to CLarksville, TN I'd love to meet you and any other TG'ers there. I've heard the Classic is a great time. I do know that if KTBA has the Tradfest again next year you should really try to make it there...I'll probably be talking about this for a while.
Where/when is the Cloverdale meet? Kentucky is about as far as I ever plan to travel again in this life so yea, we may meet up there next year if not sooner.
Glad your excited about the Tradfest up your way. I will definitely be adding it to the calender, not sure if gas will still be available next year but I can break and ride mules too, Smiles
Bryan the Tenn. Classic is great, one of the best get togethers I have ever attended, folks will make you feel like you are home. John hope you can make it too.
The tradfest was terrific! I live quite close so it was a commute on Saturday for me. Arrived (late) by 11:30 and was finished shooting and gawking and on the way home to see my team lose by 3:30PM.
I've grown accustomed to the great target trails and lay-outs. One target was a cougar with part of a white-tail deer in its paws. The moose was life-size -- a high lung hit required a high-horse to retrieve (my shot was below the kill). The trodding caribou was beautiful. Some of the shots offered a bonus target that was further away. You received 5 bonus points if you shot at this animal. There were some nice big elk, bison, and I'm a sucker for sheep.
I enjoyoed meeting "Ishootforthrills" (Doug) but due to a doc visit that morning, didn't get to shoot with him. I had great fun shooting with wapiti1997 (Joe) and Mrs. Wapiti (Andrea) and KYTJ (Tom).
I meant to buy another glove but totally forgot to.
Now that I've had the front end of June open up for me, I'm hoping to make it back to Cloverdale this year.
:clapper: Great Pictures John It was great meeting you and all the great people that stopped by our booth.
If any one did not make it this year you need to get there in 2012. We will be back!!!

Mark,
It was a pleasure meeting you and your two fine youngun's! That little gal of yours tickled me to death the way she went after that summer sausage. That gal knows what good eating is. Your boy is going to be an absolute ringer. They are lucky to have such a fine feller as a Pa.
Wish you could have got to shot with us Sunday morning. We had a blast and we all shot much better than Saturday. That is one awesome course and wish I had something like it close by. That Steel Turkey is a mean one on arrows! I got lucky and only lost one arrow on the 3 rounds we made. As many misses as I had that's pretty good I reckon.
Hope we can meet again and if you ever want to come down this way for a visit you got a place to come to.
Jeff
Thanks to the KTBA members and all involved in setting up this fantastic shoot. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. We really appreciate your hard work. Thanks to all the vendors who helped to make this such a huge success also. Great to see Mark Murphy, Gene Murphy, Jeremy, Randy Grider, Eddie A., Jesse Arnold, and Big Jim again, and a whole lot of others I'm sure I left out. Very glad to have finally met Tom Jenkins and Roy Grimes. Finally saw Roy McIntosh(Former owner of the "Kentuckian Longbow Co.") after all these years too. Somehow I missed meeting Koger. That's too bad. Maybe next time. Glad good friend Bill Riley was able to make it down for his first time to the area too. Bill, my two boys, and I shot together and had a great time. Can't wait 'til next year to do it all again.
I was also glad to come home with a new to me bow. Yes, I traded my Predator recurve with Big Jim for another used bow :scared: , but that's soon to be posted on another thread............. :coffee: :goldtooth:
Congrats,wish we had one
The Tradfest was great! The courses were very well done. Great targets. Good crowd and a wide range of vendors. Looking forward to next year when I can spend a whole weekend.
My crew and I made it home this morning about 6:am and are very tired. We will probably be sluggish all day, but wanted to take time to thank everyone who made the Kentucky shoot happen including all those who attended.
I had very little concerns that the change of venue would do much to dampen Ky spirits and was proven to be right, again :) . We had a great time despite the high winds and the truck troubles we experienced getting there.
If you were unable to attend this year, make sure you put it on your to do list for next year. We will certainly be back to enjoy the fantastic bunch of people we encountered there....of course this is common place at trad shoots across the nation.
Ya'll, We thougherly enjoyed it and can't wait til next year!
BigJim, Barbara and crew
I gotta give a big thank you to Gene Murphy. THANK YOU!!! Gene found my Big Jim shirt & is being kind enough to send it north to IN. This once again proves to me the Traditional crowd is tops when it comes to helping each other out. Thanks again Gene. I will try & promote this shoot to several IN Trad guys for next years shoot. I know I'm already looking forward to it.
Thanks to all the Folks at Mercer County. One of the best shoots we have done. The Hospitality was top notch and the facilities were awesome. The Kids and I had a great time and were glad we made the trip. Good to see everyone that made the trip. We'll be back next year with the thrower and plenty of flu flus. Good shoot, good times, good people.
I had a great time and I hope they do it again next year!!!
I had a great time. The targets and the courses were very nice. The guys who put this on should be proud of their efforts, they done good!

Jake,
had a blast with your disk thrower. That was too much fun especially when you got 4 or 5 knuckleheads shooting at the same time. I could have spent a fortune there. Can't wait to do it again next year.
Jeff
I have to throw out an apology to 202turkey. Sorry I didn't get your name and the girls name in the post while you were trading with Big Jim....I have since corrected the post and am awaiting the names of the two fine young ladies so I may edit it and at least get their names into the post. 202turkey and the girls, who are also in the pic with him while he was trading with Big Jim, were nice enough to sit and have lunch with me. I cannot say enough about the great hospitality of all the folks who I met there. I can say that it really restored my faith in my fellow man and that there truly are those who still believe in the values and beliefs I was brought up with. Thanks again to all of the KTBA members and the Mercer Co. Fish and Game club for hosting such a great event. Thanks to ALL of my fellow TG members who attended, and for those who weren't able to I send out an, "I hope to someday meet you soon", and, "I hope to see you next year, and hope you can make it".
John
And the food....it was great!!
Did I miss the photos of americanhunter7
Tracy and I realy enjoyed our day at the shoot.Next year we are going to have to try to make a weekend of it, instead of just one day.We deffinately did not want to leave Sat. night. The shoot was layed out very nice.We realy enjoyed the Bison targets and especialy the moose target. You just dont get to shoot at something that big very often.
We shot both courses with Little Jake. That boy knows how to shoot, and a fine young man to boot.We realy enjoyed having him along.Hopefully our group ribbing each other, did not effect his score to much.It was nice to go to a shoot and actualy get to shoot!Although there was still plenty of time to get around and talk to everyone. That is one of the things that makes these shoots so much fun.We had a great talk with Kentucky TJ.I realy enjoyed meeting him.He is a very easy guy to get along with.
Cant wait till next year!
Bill
I attended for Sat. only, but, I'll be back for the weekend next year !!
Great time, great venue!!
My thanks for all of the hard work it takes to put these on!
Cheers,
Chuck aka Greaseman
There were at least 3 carloads of us ITBA types down there. We all had a great time! Good shoot and well run.
Good time,Good shoot.
WOW,SURE LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FUN,,,THANKS FOR THE PICS AND ALL THE INFO...I THINK ILL HAVE TO GIVE IT A TRY WITH MY COUSIN IZZY,,,
Man Sam Koger, you haven't changed a bit!!!! Sorry I couldn't make it, looks like it was a great time to be had by all. You coming to the Baltimoe traditional Bowmens Classic in mid may???? It's a great shoot....I'm going all weekend. Come on over, sell some knives and we'll shoot out tails off!.....see ya' sometime...John
Jimmy Meadows was nice enough to invite Danny TwoHats and I from Charlottesville Virginia (Just 8hrs away) to ride with him to his home and to this shoot. His hospitality was second to none. Well done people. Very nice ranges and a top notch facility. Looks like you might have some more campers next year. I got to see many of my PBS brothers enjoying the shoot. My fingers are still sore from all the shooting. I have to note that Danny not once, but twice, pinwheeled the Iron Turkey.... :notworthy: I would also like to point out that there were many vintage bows and tackle for sale. More than any other shoot I have attended.(That includes Denton Hill) Had a great time. Thanks for putting on a great shoot. Maybe Danny with post some of the pictures he took for us.
Jeff
Hey John. You better get them eyes checked old buddy, I am getting older and uglier! You ought to try to make it to the Tenn. Classic, you would love it. Folks, I met so many of you, and I am terrible with remembering names, but I enjoyed meeting you all. I really enjoyed the kids looking at the knives and acoutrements, the sparkle in their eyes, reminded me of when I was a kid, and looking at the guns, knives, and old muzzleloaders of the oldtimers that were still around and how they took the time to answer all my questions. They lit a fire that hasnt died yet!
I want to express my appreciation for the great job the KTBA did hosting this event. This was my very first TRAD event, won't be my last. Thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet Mark Murphy (and Emily) , Tom Jenkins, Big Jim and many others. Great seeing Dave Cash again also. Great people!
Special thanks to Doug Catlett for tolerating a newbie shooting with him and his boys. I enjoyed it so much. I LOVE SHOOTING MY TRADITIONAL LONGBOW!
We were glad to have you along with us Bill. I thought you shot that Stinger of yours real well also!
I, too, was glad to meet Dave as well, among the others I mentioned earlier. You're right, great people plus a great time.
I think the tradfest went over great. I did not get to see alot of people becuse i was in Rod Jenkins shooting class, but I can say the class was great. A big Thank You to the KTBA and all the members of the shooting club. Would also like to thank Rod Jenkins for all the work he did with the class. I know have alot of work to do on my shooting form. To the other classmates it was great to have meet you all and hope we can shoot together agian someday. Thank you KTBA.
mt zion, we will just make a date to shoot together. May14-15 we are havingf a 50 target 2 day campout shoot as a fundraiser for the Mercer County Fish and Game Club. Saturday is Traditional only, Sunday is either trad or compounds. Combined score from both days wins the title of "Ironman" You can also camp friday and saturday night if you wish. The last 2 years a fellow shot longbow both days and won!
This is of course an invite to all !
I am in agreement that this event was a big deal. My first time to be a vendor. Met lots of new folks and the folks I already knew from KTBA. I have been attending thier shoots for a number of years and had no doubt they could pull this one off. In style I might add. I will be back next year for sure. It will be bigger then I am sure.
Hey guys, I just found this post. I can say, we (KTBA) are overwhelmed with the great turn-out and kind words from all that attended. Really glad everyone had a great time, can't wait for 2012!
Update for all you TG members about KY Tradfest. I just got an e-mail from Gene Murphy about the number of shooters in attendance. Gene said that there were a total of 282 shooters at the 1st Annual Tradfest. I'd say that's a pretty good start for the event.
Here are some shots from our group

Thanks to all and a big thanks to Jimmie Meadows
Glad to see you got some pics up TwoHats looks like your group more than took care of that big ole Moose. Glad to see other peoples pics, I didn't get too many pics of people on the range.
Look closely at the last photo and you can see Jimmies red fletched arrow on its way to the target.
This was a great trip, quite a ways for us but we were glad to add it to our memory collection.

One of my favorites.....

Thats one of the first Rhinehart buffaloes made, if not THE first. We actually had to burn a 10 ring in it with a piece of wire ! It looks pretty good though. Those Rhineharts are the best.
I agree those targets pull very easily. We watched one hole reseal itself right after the arrow was pulled. KTBA had an awesome collection of targets, some I'd never gotten to shoot at until at the Tradfest.
Thanx for getting up some pics Dan. Can't believe it's been a week already. Jeff
Thanks for sharing, really liked the video clip.Looks like a great event.

Yes it was a great shoot and it was great to see the turnout we had. The potluck was worth the trip just in itself. Good time to see some old friends and make some new ones.
