I was inspired by my Trad Gang brothers Jeff Burgoyne and Larry Surtees to make a back quiver. Jeff sent me the pattern.
First you need one of these!

I sent the hide off to be made into leather. It comes back like this.

Then you lay out the pattern the way you like it. Jeff warned me to lay it out on the correct side or I would end up with a left handed quiver.

Then you cut it out and start sewing. It took me around 3 hours to sew this all together.

Did the gator hide come back with its original thickness or was it skived and you had to glue it on another piece of leather? It looks great!
Very nice!

I love in Benjy! What are the dimensions on the pattern? I've got my gator hide here waiting on a project - this might just be the one if it's big enough!

Hats off to you sir.... :notworthy: :notworthy:
Very cool indeed. Makes you want to go down south and hunt up a gator.
Thanks guys.
I attached a 3/8" thick piece of plywood in the bottom. I cut it in an oval shape and then glued a 2" thick piece of rubber foam on top of that. The hide came back the same thickness, it was not thinned down, this is just the gator hide.
The three oval parts in this picture are the bottom parts.

Very nice,it looks like a durable leather.

 That turned out great!!
I realy like the way the scales on the hide get smaller, as the quiver gets to the bottom end.

Wow! Trad is as much doing for yourself as hunting. Beauty!
Wow! I just love to see that kind of creativity. It elevates all of us to a higher level.
Man I've been pondering a gator hunt for a wile now. That just made up my mind!Very, very nice.
Is the leather plyable enough for a bow grip? Arrow rest? Arm Guard? Funny hat for Mudd?
   Geat job!

Yes, It's plyable enough for all those things. My next project is to make a regular back quiver out of the tail piece. Larry's been giving me some tips. I just finished a guitar strap out of the black back piece and then some arm guards are on my "to do" list.
Now that is awesome. Great work sir.
Beautiful quiver Benjy!
That is sweet! Good work.
"Fabuloso" !!! So how did the gator meat taste?!
Very nice quiver! You did a good job on it! You've also given me an idea.
Was it as much fun as getting the gator?
Great looking quiver, I am envious.
Been watching "Swamp People" on the Discovery channel. I'm ready to go but wife and kids say no. So far no episode on bow hunting gators.
That's a fine looking quiver.

Now "That" is funny! We have only had a gator season here in SC for 3 years. The first year my wife would not let my daughter go. It can and is dangerous but as long as you take your time and pay attention to what you're doing, you will be fine. I take her now, she loves the outdoors. This one is my biggest 8'6" with 6" of the tail missing. I don't think I want one any bigger!
There is a great opportunity on the St Judes Auction for a Gator hunt. You guys should check it out! It went for a steal last year!
Benjy
Now, THAT is a quiver. Beautiful job.
