Post by: TDHunter on April 01, 2011, 12:43:00 AM
Hey Gents I have some spine trouble with a set of arrows and I'm wondering if these are too week. ????  Can not get them to shoot.

My arrows are
Beman  ICS Camo Hunter 340's   10gr per inch
Shaft is 30"(without Brass insert or knock)
100gr. brass insert
125gr. pt
standard easton 5/16 knock
total weight 565 gr
5' feathers, R helical

Trying them out of two bows
64"  ACS CX 54lb @28 (I pull 29)
12strand FF string

62" MOAB 52lb @28
Same string as above

I would say you might be stiff yet try more point weight. I have found that all these carbons tend to be on the stiff side.

I would ese a 400 or 500 spine, depending on how heavy you want them

I also agree that they are too stiff. Try a 150 or 200 grain field point.

They would probably work with enough point weight but a small bump isn't going to do it.I would need about 300 grs with that arrow. You may not like the overall weight but they would hit hard.

Too stiff is my guess also, you should be at a 400 or maybe even a 500 spine. But more likely the 400's.

If this is a new to you bow. You may have other tillering issues and just not a spine issue though.

Wow, I though I was the other way, I'll drag out the heavy points and give them a try.

I shoot a 53# @ 29" ACS using 400 Beman with 175gr points. Shoots like a dart.

Allen,

I'm shooting a Centaur Chimera 60" 50#@28 drawing to 30" and i shoot a GT Expedition Hunter (black) 340 spine, 50 grain brass insert, 175 grain tip, and 4" 3 fletch and they shoot like darts.  Try upping the wt a little and see what happens.

I did a bunch of bare shaft testing. Shot groups with two fletched arrows and two bare shaft using the same arrows and tips above and my bare shafts always grouped to the right, every time.

Everything I see means and read says this means my arrows are to stiff. I know everyone said they are too stiff........am I wrong. I tried up to 250 gr points and it got worse as I went up.
I'll have to start a post asking guys what arrow set ups they use when they have 29 to 30 inch draws shooting 55-60lbs

I don't shoot carbon-wood only; if you are a rightie arrows going to the right are weak regardless of material.
