Title: Centaur carbon extreme, and long draws
Post by: TDHunter on April 01, 2011, 12:32:00 AM
Looks like I should be having my first Centaur Carbon Extreme made in May and I was just looking for some opinions. I have a 29 draw and was looking at a 54lb carbon extreme.

I'm wondering if there are any guys out there who are pull 29+ who shoot carbon extremes and what bow length they went with. I had planned to try a 60inch for my hunting bow, but now I'm questioning whether I should just stick with 62" (same as my MOABs)

Any thoughts ???

I dont think you will have any issues at all with a Centaur in the 60 inch bow with a 29 inch draw.I would not worry about it stacking or  having finger pinch issues if thats whats what you may be concerned with.

I have had a few 60 and 62 inchers and I draw 30 inches and the 60 inchers shot just as well for me as the 62 inchers. So if you want to go with the shorter bow I would not sweat it much at all.It will fit you fine IMO.

I like 58" best for me. Better check with Jim for the real skinny on what he reccomends.

The longer the better.  It's a simple fact, shorter bows put more string on your fingers at full draw making your release more critical.  Ever see a compound guy shooting fingers?  Look at page 10 or 12 Shooting the stickbow.  Smoothness has nothing to do with it.  I shoot 29 and would consider anything shorter than 64.

I have a 31"+ draw and no stacking with my 62" 63# Centaur!
It's a real smooth, accurate, no handshock, extreme fast longbow

And that they are eyecandy aswell just make it even better    :goldtooth:

Agrees with bow mania. Its not about whether or not the bow will handle it its about string angle.I shoot 28 1/2 and love the 64s. If I want a short blind bow I use a recurve.

Jim is a great guy and he knows his bows. I am sure he will give you the correct length if you ask him . That is unless you just tell him what you want. It is, after all the bowyers business to please the customer.

God Bless you , Steve

I have a 62" Centaur , very smooth at my 29 1/2 draw. But, if I had to do it again I would buy a 60" er, no doubt about it. I spent some time with a buddies 60"er at a recent shoot, couldnt really tell a difference...just as smooth  and just as accurate. Either way though, fantastic bows.

I draw 29" and the 62"er shoots the best for me. I have had both the 58" and the 60" My new 62"er is suppose to ship tomorrow!

I owned one and it handled my draw to 29"s just. 58" 52#s at 28"s, I draw 29"s, no pinch or stacking at all!  Shawn

You can get enough feedback that you will eventually obtain responses that you want to hear.

My faith would be in the bowyer's candid recommendation.

See Jim's site or give him a call. 60" recommended for draws up to 31". I've bought and sold alot of them and currently have six of Jim's bows. A Double Carbon and a Chimera in 58", a Glass bow and a Double Carbon in 60" and two 62" Glass bows. My preference at my 30" draw for "hunting" are the 60" bows. It's a personal thing and what's good for me might not be good for you. You can't go wrong by giving Jim a call.
