I was just wondering what size feathers you guys like. also do you use R/W OR L/W?
When I first started shooting trad I liked 5.5" sheilds on my wood arrows. But these days I don't really have a preference,I shoot 4-4",4-5" and 3-5" in parabolic and bannna style. And I shoot both LW and RW,it's what I have on hand when making up some new arrows or redoing some old ones.I spend more time tuning my arrows and then most fletching will shoot just fine.I like burn my feathers and use some die cuts.
i go with 5" Shield cut RW
I' using 4" parabolic and some 4" shields.(3 fletch helical).
5-1/2" bannanna cut RW
just because they look cool
i use 5" shield cut LW
5 inch sheild cut RW here. Although those bananas
do look cool as BUFF stated.
4inch parabolic RW.......
For the last 47 years, I've been using 5" right wing parabolic feathers in a 3 fletch 120 degree configuration with cock feather out.
I just switched to 4 4" shields
3" or 4" LW
5" Shield RW helical
5.25" lw that I burn. just because
4" shields RW
I've got 3, 4, and 5's. I try to go with the smallest that gets good flight with 2 blade broadheads for that bow.
There are some very good reasons to use as small as possible for good flight when you hunt in the windy areas I do. It's nice to have the arrow flying with as little drift as possible.
5" Parabolic LW.
Years ago I used 5 1/2 inch high back parabolic and shield cut feathers. I than moved to high back 5 inch. Now I pretty much stick with the standard 5 inch. Most of today's bows are cut to center and have radiused shelves so they tend to tune better than bows 25 years ago, so there's not as much need for the larger feathers.
Started with 3 fletch 5"RW parabolic, after learning how to bare shaft tune 4" parabolic 3 fletch rw.
5.25 LW and whatever is the cheapest. :biglaugh:
I like 5" RW myself but it really depends on what you prefer
5" nanners.
For hunting, I like 3 4" Parabolic.
I like 5&1/2 lw shield
5 1/2
I usually shoot 5in parabolics. LW or RW, I can't tell the difference. I do use longer and shorter fletch in various other shapes when I'm feeling saucy.
Thanks for the info!
I prefer 4" shields or parabolic RW in pink. :)
I use 5 inc parabolic RW
I was just wondering because I have been shooting 5 inch R/W, but I am now shooting 4 inch L/W.
I anchor with the feather and I think I like L/W better. But that is just me.
I like 5" parabolic R/W helical.
5 inch "Fred Bear Shields" in RW
5" Shields. Some left, some right.
5" rw parabolic
I shoot mostly 5" LW but am leaning towards 4" shields as the new ILF bows I am shooting tune super easy. I may even shoot some 2" vanes off of them. Shawn
5" Shield RW
3 left wing 4 inch flu flus that I cut to 7/8" Native style. It doesn't matter if they are left or right wing though. I haven't noticed any difference in flight. Also, Im shooting something like 800 total grain target arrows out of a 100# bow. I would probably go with 5/8" or 6/8 for a lighter set up.
5" True Flight LW shield.
For my target arrows I use 3" in either left or right because I fletch using a straight clamp and add 2 degrees offset depending on wing. For hunting I prefer 5" left wing parabolic because they are more silent then the shield design. This is just my 2 cents.
Grouse
With field points I shoot 4 inch right wing shield cut. For broadheads I switch to 5 inch.
5" shield RW
5 in. shield, LW.

I'm a left wing burner, because they do look cool.
5" rw parabolic
4" sheilds. I use that Rick Welch double anchor system in which the tip of the feather touches the end of your nose, and your thumb on your ear. If I use 5" with my jig it puts the end of the feather too close to my face.
I use a huge 3-rivers swift chopper I think they are at least 5 1/2" when cut. They serve no purpose and actually create noticeable loss of trajectory at 20 yds ( 2-3") compared to 5 1/2" shields or 4" shields but they are big and gaudy and look really cool!!! I shoot all LW just to keep it simple and match what Single bevel broadheads I have.
5" Right Wing Shield Cut.
Bill
5"parabolic...i dont like the high feathers for hunting, they make too much noise...
5 1/2 LEFT WING , PARA OR SHIELD
5" Shield LW.
5" shield and para 3 fletch LW
I use 5" shield LW. I started doing 4 fletch arrows and realy like them
5" LW shield on everything from woodies to carbon
Out of a center cut lb, I shoot 4" shield or parabolic, right or left depending on what I have available, 3 fletch helical.
I use 3-5" shield cut LW helical
I'm right handed, use LW 5" or 5.5" shield cuts.
Mostly 5" parabolic LW.
I really like the 3Rivers Swift. I adapted the chopper to make a shorter lower profile. They just look cool.
5 1/2 inch shield cut right wing
5 inch left wing is all I shoot.
5 inch shield cut right wing
3 inch shield cut - 4 fletch. It has the same fletch area as 4 inch three fletch shield cuts.
I like 5" Parabolic feathers from stringstrecher
5" RW shields on 3 fletch and 4" RW shields on 4 fletch.
5"parabolic have always worked good for me.
I shoot a 5" traditional cut feather. This works great when shooting a big broad head. They stabilize the arrow very quickly when shooting of the shelf. They also look nice.
5" Shield LW 3 fletch.
Three 4" shield cut RW. Still enough to stabalize my Wensel Woodsmen broadheads without sacraficing to much speed.
