Sunday my son was baptized and afterward we went out to the woods for some arrow flinging celebration!
He's growing strong as he can now shoot my 45# Bear Alaskan. I bet he's pulling around 36#'s at his draw which is a big jump from last year.
I realized while making this video just how relaxing shooting can be, even if you are just watching. :D

Awesome job!!!!! We will have that new bow reedy for him in a few weeks
Looking great!! good job having no pressure on him!!!
Nice Job...soon he is gonna want to hunt in your favorite stand
I like the last bit where he tells you how to work the camera. I've got a new bow coming for my 5 yr old daughter. She's been shooting a little more lately and has really taken an interest in it after coming with me to k-zoo this year and shooting at the balloons with the other kids. Taking her to Compton's this year (our 1st) and she's pumped after I showed her the pics of the dino targets and other little kids with bows.
 :archer:
I feel just like he does when I shoot. That's part of the reason I started shooting again in the first place.
Come to think of it I have a lucky arrow too :readit:
Good Stuff Arwin.
Great video. Made me happy watching it.
Great leadership!
Nice Arwin, we all have that lucky arrow don't we?
Yup, I had to chuckle when he remembered his lucky arrow.
Thanks for all the kind comments!!! :campfire:
I found through teaching a few youth classes that most kids just want to see the arrow fly and pushing them too hard can set them back. They get the jitters and focus too much on what their doing wrong. In most cases the kids figure out how to compensate on their own. ;)
I was laughing at both his "lucky arrow" and technical advise. One thing for sure, he will tell you what he's thinking, LOL! It seems a lucky arrow is in everyones quiver. It's almost an instinct we archers have, to call something lucky and it gives us extra confidence.
I can't wait to see Jr's face Dave!!! I love it when he says, "A longbow would be better." :biglaugh:
Made me smile. Thanks!
Nice video. Kids are certainly a prime joy in life.
Just plain cool! Enjoy those special times.
Matt
Good Video Arwin, thanks for sharing. Your boy is doing well.
You are a good dude Arwin...and because you are a good dude, your boy will easily follow in your footsteps.
Good job, because we can never have enough good dudes!!! :notworthy:
Very nice video. I like your comments about not pushing kids too much and just letting them have fun.
I took a kid just a couple nights ago and got really worried when he couldn't hit the bale at 20 feet. Discovered he was closing his dominant eye. When he had trouble remembering to leave both eyes open, he said, "I know," and pulled his stocking cap down over his non-dominant eye. It worked!
I had to laugh!

Thanks Raghorns! It is a common mistake some parents can make because we are so excited to see our kids improve. I like to gently nudge kids while teaching, maybe help with form a little, but mostly I let them evolve on their own. I want them to shoot how "they shoot" not like how I shoot. It seems individual style is ever so much more present in traditional archery, no two people shoot the same.
I like the stocking story! I saw a kid put painters tape over one eye on his glasses because of the same thing. :D
