My 1968 Super Mag arrived last night. It really feels and looks like an old friend. I am so pleased. It needs some work and I have already talked to Joe and as of next week with a deposit I will be in line for a "spa treatment" for her..
Till my time comes up I am going to shoot her a bit and perhaps even take her turkey hunting... I can feel her desire to be in the woods... LOL
Here she is, 1968 Bear Super Mag 48.. 48", 46#@28"... a bit of history.. and my history also

Nice looking recurve. A classic for short draw archers. It's a great find.
Beautiful bow. Congrats.
Slick!!
I did not remember its draw curve but its there. I have not put it on a scale yet but it feels like it pulls 46# from the start. I shoot three under and do not notice any "pinch"
Sweeeet  Good luck turkey hunting :archer:
These Bear Mags are easy to look at. Looks to sling an arrow! Stick something!
I have always wondered how those bows, with their extended risers, would shoot. And what's the brace height on that bow?
one slick looking bow
Landman:
Right now, with a stock orig string with very little twis it sets at 9" at the grip throat. I am going to check with some of the guys over on "collecting" to see what they may know
great blind bow!
Nice bow, enjoy her!
nice looking bow, have a good time!
Just went out in the barn and shot the "little Devil" First shots lots of string noise... put on (temp) two bundels of cat wiskers.. Very little noise. Groups were OK but I need to tune some arrows for it.
Very sweet bow! it is very appealing.
cool bow bruce...i bought a 52" bear recurve k-mag several years back from tl's archery in carbondale. it was loud, so i bought a set of hush puppies and bowhush from terry green's girls off this site...couldn't even hear the bow after they were on.
on another note, did ya get yer widow longbow yet? cant wait to see it, also.
stan
Stan:
Yep got er. Shoots great, as a Widow would....
If you draw 28" or more, you might want a brace height of 8 1/4" to avoid overstressing at full draw. If 9" works for you, it works for you.
Tony:
9" is a static string... almost not twist. I draw 28" dead nut. I wondered if it should be lower.
I have had it strung for 24 hrs and shot over 100 arrows out of it and its still at 9" right in the grip throat.
Nice one, Bruce.
NICE,LOOKS MINT,,,ENJOY,,,
Is the riser phenolic,I could'nt see any grain in the photos? Also, would drawing 29" be risky with her?
Very nice
I have a '67 and it is OK at 29",for sure you feel a little of stack passed 28".Yes the first few years had a phenolic handle from that Black Beauty!
Yep... she's phonelic or "Fascor" as Bear called it.
29 shpould be OK. I sold one years ago when I was working sporting goods to a guy with gorilla arms... I think almost 30" draw if I remember right (been a long time ago) and he fell in love with it.
I like it!
Whip:
now ya know what ya got comming....
Thanks man...
