My middle finger is becming more sensitive to shooting. I shot about 12 arrows this morning and stopped. My groups were off due to the pain.
This just started.
I'm not interested in tabs.
If you know of a glove that has thicker leather for the fingertips please let me know. I'm currently using a cow leather one from Neet. The leather is maybe 1/16 or so thick. Looking for something about 1/8 thick or thicker like Bison leather or 5/6 or 6/7oz cowhide. Maybe even 7/8oz.
TG sponsors preferred but I need a good glove.
Thanks.
I like the bearpaw personally.
Big Shot gloves! A little pricey and they take a little getting used to (a day or two) but offer good finger protection and a good release.
Dura-glove from 3 rivers, tried them all, this one works best for me. You can still feel the string and offers ample finger protection.
X 2 on the American Leathers Big Shot gloves.
I like the Superglove.
The Bear Paw should remedy the issue on your 50# bow. I know that even with sore fingers I can barely discern the string at full draw on a 51# bow.
I do prefer the Big Shot since I prefer more string-feel and still offers adequate protection even with sore fingers.
This info is coming from a tab guy who has leaned on gloves when fingers were quite sore. Since trying the two aforementioned gloves, I am using them predominantly. These are my pics of the seven different ones I have tried.
I just bought a Dura-glove, way to soft, hurt my fingers. Sold it after 50 shots. Got a Super Glove to replace it, really like it. Much thicker leather and the cordovan leather is really slick.
had the same prob. then i switch to dura-glove and no probs since
BEARPAW....nice glove
The new crossover glove from American Leathers works very well for me with my 58 lbs. bows! It gives all of the finger protection of the old Hill glove, doesn't crease, and provides a very slick release. You can get them direct from AL or from Big Jim. I tried the Dura-glove, and while it gives a very good release, it doesn't offer enough protection for me.
Check out Alaska Bowhunting Supply there gloves are great. They used to have one in ballistic nylon finger tip but it looks as though they have dropped it. It was a great glove. The mega tuf is also go and you can still feel the string with excellent finger protection.
X3 on the American Leathers Big Shot gloves.
ABS SuperGlove
I had the very same prob. my middle finger hurt so bad just behind the first joint, i tried a few different gloves then i went to the hardware store and bought a pair of heavy leather work gloves and now the pain is gone. Sounds kinda strange, i know but it worked. I still use it.
I can't stand a thick glove. I generally use a deerskin "Dura-Glove" like they sell in 3 Rivers. It has Cordura on the tips and seems to wear better than a regular Berlin Deerskin glove. With me it's generally my ring finger that takes the abuse. When it starts to get sore I simply wrap the tip of the finger with a band aid for a while and that helps a lot.
I had the same problem and I moved to the Super Glove and I have had it four 5 years and still love it!!. also no more pain.
I just bought a Dura-Glove. It's thick enough without losing string feel, and has really smooth release...but I can see that if you're shooting a lot (say more than 60 arrows a session) you might want something thicker. I say this because after about 70 - 80 arrows my fingers start feeling a little sore. With my previous glove it was after about 30-40.
If I'm shooting a lot I'll get a callus on my fingers - then I don't have to worry as much about finger pain. :)
there is aglove for everyone try them all i settled on the bateman glove w inserts its the one ferguson uses i think still cant shoot like him though
American Leathers Big Shot Glove.
The Big Shot has a double layer of nylon positioned to protect the 1st joint of the middle finger.
Don't know if it makes a difference but the pain is in the fingertip pad itself. Not sharp, but more like a bruise. I've never had this problem before, but yet I have never shot this much either. I have a nice callus forming and the pain is behind the callus closer to the joint.
I'll count back thru this thread and tally the votes so far.
EDITED TO ADD-
Should've done a poll:
So far
BearPaw - 3
BigShot - 5
Dura-glove - 4 and a minus 1
Superglove - 4
AK BH Supply - 1
Work gloves - 1
Bateman - 1
My sessions have been almost marathon. Shooting as much as I can before dark. to the point my arms are giving out before my fingers were. THis AM I only got in the 12 shots and the finger hurt enough it was making my shots go everywhere due to flinch and anticipation of the pain.
Keep the opinions coming. I'll be researching these in the mean time.
Thanks very much for the input.
Bud
I shoot a big shot by American Leathers, and I too was getting finger pain, except mine was on my pointer finger where it contacted the arrow/nock point. I switched over to 3 under instead of split finger, and all my pain went away...well I can't say it all went away, my wife's still here.
One more for the Big Shot - that's 6
-1 for the wife :D
Just pull the trigger and shoot a release!!!! lol I've done the alaska bowhunting glove needs a bit of break in but nice.JG
I've been using the Dura-Glove and like it, but I don't shoot as much as you are. Over the winter I got a Crossover Big Shot from Big Jim, and though I haven't broken it in yet I can tell I'll like it. Nice and thick and very slick. Due to the amount of shooting you are doing per session I expect you'll need a thick glove. I'd try the Big Shot.
Yeah, I think for me right now the thicker the better. That American Leathers Big Shot looks good. So does their Tuff Shot.
Bud,
As you can see, there are a lot of preferences. I shoot a Big Shot (have two).
Give John at American Leathers a call or email about your condition. He is a great guy and has a lot of experience.
I liked the Grizzly Leather Woverine "SS" glove. Very smooth and seems long lasting for me. You can get them from Braveheart Archery.
What size is your hand Bud?
I'd get that finger checked out too.
QuoteWhat size is your hand Bud?
I usually get a large. Mediums have always been too snug. XL is a gamble. Good thing about leather is it will stretch some if necessary.
I had problems with my middle finger at the first joint. got me one of the super gloves and finger is getting better.
Another vote here for the Big Shot. Never had any pain in my index or middle finger. Shoot split finger. The only pain I have had is my ring finger and I fixed that by lowering my string arm elbow slightly.
Jeff
I love the super glove and have recently added cut fingers from a batting glove to the inside of the middle and ring finger by gluing them in. I love it. Makes shooting heavier weights more enjoyable and that release that seems subconscious.
Get an American leathers Big shot glove....you wont be sorry!
Widows Super glove works for me, hard to wear out
I've been using the same American Leathers Full Shot for 5 years. Just bought a new one a few weeks ago because my dog got a hold of it.
The nylon starts out a bit stiff, but after about a week of break-in, it's good to go. Never had a pain issue.
Big Shot and Full Shot are a bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion.
Adam
I have 4 or 5 of the AK Bowhunting Superglaves stashed around. I have never worn one out, (my oldest is 10+ yrs) but like to have a broke in spare around when I misplace them. My latest one says bearpaw germany, go figure. The cordovan tips are thick and really protect your fingers and just gets slicker with use so you get a nice clean release.
Black Widow Super glove is great for sore finger prevention. I have used them all and this is by far the best protection.
Big Shot fan here - pricey but seem to last and rugged, smooth release.
I'm going to try a home made adjusted glove. If that doesn't work, then I'll likely go with the Big Shot.
Thanks all.
I'll let you know how it goes.
for me its the delux cordovan glove with inserts iv modified in that i cut the tips back 1/4 inch to ex pose fingertips perfect for me oh yeah bateman makes it
Thanks for the thread. Followed it for a while because of problem with middle finger. Have been shooting 4 yrs with no issues but in the beginning of march my finger started hurting. Didn't pay much attention to it at first. Swelled up & turned black on me. Could not bend it at all. Went to the ER where I work & nerve damage. Gave me meds & no use of it for ten days. I bought the big shot because of the thread & have shot 4 times this past week. No issues & finger is back to normal. Thanks guys.
Good to hear ch....I backed off too. My home remedy likely isn't going to work so the Big Shot purchase is highly likely.
dura glove all the way!
