Title: crazy glue & FF strings
Post by: olddogrib on March 25, 2011, 02:19:00 PM
Is crazy glue (cyanoacrylate) okay to use on fast flite strings?  I love my SBD 6 strand D-10 ultra-skinnies, but the only drawback to them that I've found is that my tied-on catwhiskers tend to "wander " up even a well-waxed string.  I'm assuming this is a function of getting them tied tight enough on a such a small diameter string.  I have a mental block on separating the strands of a 6 strand string, so I'm going to serve beside them and try to hold in place with a dab of glue.

It should not be a problem.  I have seen it "smoke" cotton string and thread, however.  It soaks up so quick and then kicks and scorches the fibers.  It might make a "hard spot" on the whiskers themselves that causes them to break after shooting.

If the string has been waxed you might get unpredictable results.  I'd recommend lashing them in place with dental floss whips above and below.

Stump,
I don't intend to apply it to the whiskers, just on the extra 'nock point' I'm going to tie beside them.  I think that's what your recommending.  Their movement seems to always be towards the center of the bowstring, so I'm thinking one on each will do.  The lower silencer seems to be more prone to moving, which may be a function of my 3-under release.  You can barely slide the things at all, so they're not tied on loosely, but after a week or so of shooting the lower one will be at approx. the 1/3rd position while the top will still be near it's starting place 1/4.  The bow's quiet, so maybe I should leave them where they "want" to be!

I served up a recurve bowstrings loop ends smaller to use on a longbow with small tips.
Crazy Glued the serving to stay put and have
had no issues. Been three months since done.
probably a hundred or more shots with it,no
issues.
