Title: Let's see those Black Widow's /or.
Post by: 30pointbuck on March 24, 2011, 06:48:00 PM
Guy's im seriously thinking of ordering a new Black Widow T/D Recurve but not sure which wood i want. Hoping you widow owner's could post some picts. of your exotic or special type woods i don't know much about wood types for bows. Looking for a BEAUTIFUL WOOD for my bow. Even considering a Dale Dye, I love the checkering he does in the grips, but don't have a web site to look on. Any picts or help from you more experianced guy's would help greatly.   :help:

Thanks,
Dale.    :dunno:

Dale, I wish for you that you may get a bow as beautiful as mine. Although it is a B/W PSAIII  and simple in appearance,it has served me well for 10 years. It has been with me and conforted me during 6 days of blinding rain and sleet in Alaska. It has been by my side while lost in the Rocky Mountains of new Mexico. It was with me when I missed 5 elk in one day and finally after 10 years, when I killed my 1st elk in 2010. It has fed me and my family rabbits, bear roasts, javalina sausage, wild turkey, venison in many delicious dishes. I have spent many hours with it, sanding and waxing out the scars I put on it,dragging it across rocks, using it as a walking stick, and throwing it in anger during some of my stupid moments and it just gets more beautiful with age, kinda like my beatiful wife.Good Luck, I hope your new bow will be beautiful in few years

My main bow is a PSA 3 with boo limbs it is 60" and 55#@28" I love it and I have killed Caribou and Deer with it.

Next is my pretty bow. It was named "Boo Rattler" by the boys at BW. It is basically a PSA2 with Boo limbs and Rattler skins. The Gray and Rattler skins look cool. This bow is 58" and 54#@28.

Here is a PAX. It is a cocobolo one-piece. It is 58".  I have a PMAIII (Autumn Oak) which is the TD. It also is a 58".

I have to say, I like the 1-piece much more than the TD. The grace of the PA lines are just very nice. The cocobolo makes it a nice hefty bow without the hardware that does the same for the TD.  Of course if I didn't have TD recurves I wouldn't have purchased the PAX.

I can't decide if I like the BW TD Recurves or not.  They certainly are unique.  There are days when I come on the forums and see pics of BW bows and love them and wish I had one and then there are times when I just don't like the shape and looks of them.  I would love to be able to look and handle all the different models and see for sure.

Wow, that Zircote riser and Tiger Myrtle limb bow is like the ultimate combo. I hear that if you visit the Widowworks they sprinkle pixie dust on you at the entryway which ensures that you can't leave without pulling out your credit card.

Trad-wing conspiracy.

BW's just look so good in photos. How am I ever gonna resist?

30pointbuck -

1. The BW extreme forward riser is a plus for me in that it promotes torque reduction.

2. Favor the BW physical wt. for stability.

3. Enjoy the foregiveness of the BW extra brace ht.

4. Secure with well known robust design.

5. Have enjoyed working in the past with the BW team.

** No matter what benefits can be put down on paper, they can't replace shooting one for yourself.

Go with the B.W.. You won't regret it.I tried very many bows, and cannot find one that can perform better. The BW in med weight 45 to 50 lbs with a heavy arrow will perform amazingly. The customer service is second to none. You will not die of old age waiting on one. If you want a second set of limbs, they send them to you without having to tie up your riser, and will fit perfect. You will wind up with one if you keep on shooting anyway. Test drive one with different grips till you find which one you like.

Post by: overbo on March 27, 2011, 01:41:00 PM
Yes you can find a better performing bow.
I've owned both widows and Dyes.Very different in feel.Dye,as you can tell by the pics above, have a very high grip.Their mass weight is much less and Dye uses a very different limb design(tips swung way forward and wider). You really need to shoot both IMO to make a choice.

i have owned tones of good recurves, robertson, dye's,morrison, schafer and black widow..  They are all very nice bows, but the widows are truely smooth drawing and hard hitting, just a tough bow all around...  i still own the good ones and also have a PCH on order,,,  my new Talltines is a great bow also, smokin fast and stable

I own a Dale Dye and it is a true work of art, however, the waiting list is probably around 18 to 24 months. The best would be to order your widow now and place an order with Dale. You will be getting new bow fever in 18 months anyway and then you Dye will arrive. Best of both worlds.

I don't presently own a BW, but the important thing I've heard about them is that they are bomb proof - really tough bows. And the one that I recently pulled was strikingly smooth. I don't think you can go wrong with BW.

Hello:
Roger at BW will email you photo's of various woods.  Because there are differences in each wood, he can send several from which you can choose and then further select for front and back of limbs.  BW may have other woods not in their catalog, so you might want to ask about that.
Regards,
Kevin
