Curious as to who is buying what. I ordered a pair of Attack pants and the Guide Jacket. Already have high quality merino base layers.
Wish they had some sort of lighter top for warmer weather to go with the Attack pant.
Should be fun! Can't wait for the KUIU to arrive.....
I ordered the same plus the 185 base. I would like to see a lightweight top. Maybe I should have ordered a vest too... :help:
I am gonna push the button in a few minutes. Am having trouble deciding on items, camo ? Brown ? Grey ? vest ? rain gear ?
Goodness, i already have everything i need but it looks so good.
Well, i guess i will just have to stop buying bows. Oh man, now i have to go check the classifieds. I'm a mess.
Yeah,
Just ordered my gear then, Vest and merino top/beanie. Can't wait to get them.
Memo
Yep, I am on the band wagon. I ordered guide jacket, pants and the spindrift insulating layer, and a cool cigar ball cap! I can't wait till season starts!!
Ordered the complete system. Chose to go with the rain gear over the Guide jacket and attack pants. What's everyone's opinion about this camo pattern for treestand hunting whitetails? Merely looking for your thoughts here, not throwing stones by any means :)
Have to wait until tomorrow........."my day". Still torn as to what else to drop the hammer on beside the vest and beanie.
I think that camo will be great in a treestand!
:campfire:
Yeah just ordered the attack pant and two merino tops.

It works great, the light/dark contrast is great for treestand hunting as well as on the ground...

It would probably work great in the skyline treestand, but down in a low light hollow hard to say.
I am very interested in their line of Outerwear Hunting clothes but am holding off to hear what people think of it once they get it. I bought the complete line of Sitka Gear when it first came out but only after a guarantee from them that I could return it if I did not like it. Has anyone actually felt the fabric? When reading the info on it, it sure sounds really good but I am wondering how it feels against the skin. I would really like to see and touch it before I buy it.
Ordered the full set yesterday, minus the raingear and pack. Hoping to put it to the test this Sept. chasing elk. As far as the camo pattern it was a huge plus for me when I saw the Vias camo because I'm primarily a treestand hunter and that's where the open/contrast patterns really shine.
I'm with Curt on this one concerning the open Vias pattern. He obviously used it with good results out at Lambshead in West TX. All over TX the pattern should be deadly. Jason's blog has some great photos from the human perspective. I mix my Sitka patterns with good results, but at multiple ranges the Vias might be a great all around, plus DWR and super light. I am on the ground more anyway.
I'll likely sell off my redundant Sitka, except for the Incinerators for serious cold and wet.
What sold me finally are the technical details of the clothing, and effort put into quality of manufacture. I notice price versus construction job and fabric choices Jason made, and let's not forget the pricing structure/online store. Bottom line JH @ KUIU is running a startup business and I will support him. I know how hard it is when you are wearing all the hats and trying to be successful.
Say no to Corporate Camo!
i bought my new undies! one set of 185 and one set of 285. going to test them moose hunting this fall in Alberta!
My day is tomorrow. i am looking at some 40-80degree outfit to hunt in Ms...any suggestions for AZ Elk? sept also?> What i would like to do is get rid of all my camo cotton and everything and have 2 sets of hunting clothes. Do they make i light camo top with pants. I am registerd ,how do i view before my time?
Do have to prepay? if so i better get to makin some more turky calls
For anyone who has questions about pre-shopping, please feel free to contact KUIU by emailing them at service@kuiu.com. You may also call them at 855-367-5848. KUIU is built on customer service so please don't hesitate to contact them.
Aloha!
Ryan
My day to pre-order is tomorrow 3/25 and after reading more on the website and this post I am going to bite the bullet and order the outerwear and maybe the pack frame then wait for the camo packs to come out. Wish they would come out with a cargo attachment for the pack!!
Joebuck, The attack pants look like they would be great for warm weather. As for a top, the merino 185 zip top by itself is what I'm planning on for warmer weather. During the preshop period you won't have access to the online store until your assigned day. To view the items and a review you'll have to go back through the blog where there is a review of each item. And like Ryan said if you have specific questions call that customer service number, you'll speak with Eric who helped me out yesterday.
You can access the online store by clicking on the link in the original preshop email. It will show the items as out of stock but you can still review them and plan your purchase.
X2 what NBK said and ordered. First time I saw Curt's pics the camo caught my attention. I am a big fan of Predator and think this is right with it, pattern wise and in much better gear in my opinion. Last year I started paying attention to ultra light weight hiking gear and info in hopes of any of it helping me chasing elk in Sept. Changed from a tent to a tarp and a few other items. Think this is right on track too. Will probably have to wait til next year for the pack and rain gear though as I'm now tapped out. Hey Ryan, did you get to test any of the 185 tops in your neck of the "woods"?
MY shopping day is Tommorow.
Tomorrow for me too.
It's the Camo pattern for me too.. I'm sure I 'll like the quality fabric but I am a huge Predator and old Army Camo fan. One thing I would suggest to Kuiu guys( like they need marketing help!) is blog a domestic hunt. probably what vast major of us will use for 'deer camp". I doubt I will ever go sheep or grizzly bear hunting. If I get mine quick enough, I'll blog a dangerous turkey bow hunt!!!! Is that pack frame system cool or what. The LOGO....love it....got to run to go make some turkey calls before my shop date.
Thanks for help guys
Well there is nothing worse than having your wife stand over your shoulder while you are at your computer trying to spend money!! LOL!!! :scared:
Just ordered the 185 Zip T and bottoms, attack pants, guide vest, guide beanie, and 2 caps (1 camo and 1 brown).
Just want everyone to know I am OK and still have the use of all my limbs!! LOL!!
Rusty
I just got through with a shopping spree. May have to get a loan or a second job to pay for it all.
I give up trying to peek.! I will have to wait till tomorrow on my date. I log in but the 4 categories are empty....or is there a sheet with all the garments and price?..
ordered the merino 185 shirt and guide vest, wanted a set of pants too but there wasnt enough money in the checking account
My shopping day was today...embarassed to say I pretty much bought the farm :o
Can't wait to get the stuff and try it out though.
Thanks Curt, I was hoping to hear from you about the camo pattern and treestand hunting as I knew you had a chance to put it to good use in Solana. Thanks for the info!!
5 days of turkeys coming up next week and can't take my KUIU.......
I ended up ordering as much as possible to meet the limit Jason set of one of every item. I would have bought more if I could have. The fabrics are all great, as I found out when I had lunch with Jason at SCI Reno in January. My biggest problem in ordering was deciding what color/pattern to order. Here is what I ordered:
All 4 pieces of Merino underwear in Brindle.
Merino beanie and neck gaiter in Vias camo.
Attack pant in charcoal gray (I will order the Vias camo as soon as I can get a second pair).
Guide jacket in Major Brown.
Guide vest in Vias camo.
Chugach jacket and pant in Vias camo (Jason says the Frost Gray is a great color, but it is too light for much of where I hunt, and Jason has told me he will probably eventually offer it in a medium olive color which I will get too).
Guide beanie in Major Brown.
Kuiu cap in Vias camo.
Spindrift jacket in Coffee Bean.
Icon packframe and suspension.
Icon 3000 pack in Major Brown.
Icon 6000 pack in Major Brown.
I guess that's it. Now I have spent far more than I ever thought I would. Jason is good at that!
Allan
Goo job Allan!

Hi!
Where can I find the items for sale?
I have registred on their site but when I`m going in the shop it`s empty?
Margly
I want to thank everyone here on Tradgang for all of the overwhelming support for KUIU. I have put my heart and soul into this new brand and to see all of your positive comments, enthusiasm and feedback is a dream come true. From one fellow Stickbow hunter to everyone of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope KUIU products exceed all of your expectations as you have all exceeded mine.
If there is ever anything I can do for you please let me know. Please email photos of your hunts to hello@kuiu.com, we are creating an online scrapbook I would like to post them up and show off the KUIU family.
Jason
Ordered the Attack Pants on "my day". Broke the bank with that purchase. Now I can start saving for the Spindrift Jkt.
chris <><
How long after you subscribe can you expect an email for pre-order??
Jason,
I want to thank you for bringing a great new company with outstanding, innovative products to the marketplace. Much of my "thanks" will be in the form of the money I am sending your way to pay for those products. I know they will be worth every penny. Even though they are expensive, the quality definitely justifies the cost. I hope lots of people will support the success of you and Kuiu in this venture by voting with their dollars and buying what they can afford. We need you to keep pushing the limits of design and function of hunting gear and the way it is manufactured and sold. The fact that you posted your comments here at 5:42 AM PST is another indication of how hard you are working to make Kuiu a success for everyone, including us. I appreciate it, and I know lots of others do too. I know this has been a dream for you, and it is terrific to see this amazing outcome of your hard work and talents. I am glad I finally got to place my order, and now I am looking forward to getting the gear and using it in the field. I will definitely send photos, but I will understand if you decide not to post them since seeing my non-model looking face sticking out of Kuiu clothing might drive off a lot of prospective buyers. :D
Take care,
Allan
I'm sure I missed something somewhere but what was the latest on the guide gloves?
Rusty
X2 on what Allan wrote. Startups are a nightmare, trust me. 4 years into mine and never took a dime from investors. To have the "bloom" Jason is experiencing from an entrepreneur's standpoint must be like having a child. It is the moment you have been striving for and there is nothing like it. I have not reached that point but in my limited achievements with my company, I can certainly appreciate it.
Hats off to making something as cool (er, or warm) as KUIU a reality! Many continued successes to you, Jason.
Rusty, They should be available at the end of April.

My day was today so woke up and took care of my order 1st thing.
Attack pants in charcol color and a camo ballcap.
Not a big hat guy but I figure it will be a conversation starter when I wear it to Church or football games.
Thanks and can't wait to get my hands on my order!
Just curious....does anyone know when the ship dates will be??
I double checked my order and states not shipped.
Is KUIU waiting for all "pre-orders" to be completed to ship?
I am in no big rush just curious!
thansk
chris <><
Jason said on his blog "We expect to have all the items available on the preshop imported, inbound and shipped to you before April 15th. "
Sharptop,
Thanks for providing that info!
X2 on the info.
Thanks
chris <><
Ordered, the merino 185 top and bottom and a cap today.
Where are you guys looking at the clothing and ordering? I was just on their website and the "shop" link doesn't click through.
Guru, how "hard" is the finish on their synthetic cloth? For instance, I think the Sitka 90% is too hard and reflective, as opposed to fleece, Berber, or, in particular, wool.
JJB2, I had the same problem. If you e-mail them, they will send a hot link.
Jock, Sitka is 90% is good stuff, and I had good luck using it.
But in comparing the KUIU Guide jacket and the 90% jacket, the Toray soft shell fabric that makes up the Guide jacket is both "softer", and less reflective(if reflective at all)compared to the 90% material.
That was always one of my pet peeves with the 90%...
JJB2,
For any info on ordering, please call 1-855-FOR-KUIU between 9am to 5:30pm PST, or shoot them an email at service@kuiu.com anytime.
For any info on KUIU please check the interactive blog. Jason posted a years worth of information about KUIU.

Thanks guys, I was wanting to look at each item and read product descriptions for each piece in the system. I see the pics on the blog and test links and some info on the attack pants and pack frame but nothing on the jackets, base layers, caps, etc. JockC - is that info on the hot link they emailed you?
Figured out what I was doing wrong - was on the last page of the blog. I went back thru the whole thing and read thru it all. Wow, appreciate the thought and research that went into both the gear and business model. Can't wait to try it out.
Finally got my stuff ordered today, I can't wait to get my hands on it.....
Ok, Veronica at KUIU finally got me hooked up so I can order. I planned to start out with some of the base layer pieces and would like some input on what will work best.
From the KUIU web site:
The Merino 250 collection is a balance of warmth, weight and durability, with each piece designed to be worn over our Merino 185 collection as a second layer.
I guess my question is, will the 185 collection be fine for late season in Central Illinois and a few outings to Wisconsin. Can the 250 collection be worn alone as a step up from 185? Seems like wearing it over the 185 would be reserved for Musk Ox in the NWT or something. Or sitting in a tree stand for several hours in Alberta.
Hey Burnsie,
I'm glad that Veronica was able to help.
The 185 is designed to be the primary base layer, giving it the ability to be worm in hot weather as a stand alone piece or a "comfort" piece in warmer weather. The 250 is designed to be worn over the 185 when layering for colder temps. Everyones threshold for cold weather varies, but my opinion is that you could use both layers together in temps below 70 degrees. The 250 has a "slight itch" factor if worn alone. If the "slight itch" doesn't bother you than wearing the 250 alone shouldn't be a problem.
Sorry but I can't help you with the question regarding Illinois and Wisconsin, I'm not sure what the weather temps and conditions are like during those time periods.
Hope this helps,
Ryan
Thanks Ryan, that helps alot, I definitely want to avoid the itch factor. I just want to make sure I understand how each layer is designed to work and then order appropriately.
So your saying I could wear the 185 base layer with no other layers over it directly into the woods on warm days. I guess I was looking at the 185 and 250 as modern versions of my trusty thermal long johns and shirt.
Yes Burnsie,
For example, I'll be using the 185 all the time in Hawaii as my primary shirt. When the weather gets a little colder in the mornings or in the evenings, let's say temps below 70, I'll throw on my 250. Below 60's I may start to use my Guide vest and even colder, I may need to use the Guide jacket. For added insulation on really cold days, you may always use the Spindrift under you jacket.
The KUIU blog is also a great place to interact and ask questions.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Aloha,
Ryan
Tempted to order the beanies, but it won't be cold again in TX until freakin' November.
I am really excited to get this product. I have been waiting for a company to produce such a line of clothing. The camo pattern looks very versatile and extremely effective.
I often thought that if technical outdoor/climbing gear could be converged with a camo pattern and quiet exterior shell it would be a winner. That is what I believe KUIU will be.
