Title: My new archery mantra....
Post by: Javi on March 21, 2011, 07:32:00 AM
I will not aim, I will not aim, I will not aim, I will not aim, I will not aim..  :D

After a long break from traditional that ended with me shooting professional compound until I had some physical issues which put an end to that adventure, I've now returned to my roots.

Now I just have to re-train my brain NOT to aim the bow...   :knothead:

Mike,
I know what you mean to do. However, most folks' minds are better adept at taking positive instruction.  Instead of telling your self "NOT to aim", think instead (maybe) "see the spot".  See the difference?  You focus on the "spot" and let that wonderful computer inside your head send the arrow there.  Instead of focusing on something you don't want to do (aim) you'll let you mind take the positive fork in the road.

Here's what's happening in my brain right now... For 15 years I've taught my brain to shoot a bow with a specific process which included looking at the level in my sight and centering the pin guard in the peep, now these things aren't there and my brain screams letdown when it gets to that part of the process... I've trained myself to letdown when something isn't right with the process...

I just need to train my brain to not look for those things, but rather to focus on the target earlier in the process.. I did it correctly for the first 36 years I shot a bow and I can do it again, if I can just stop aiming..

I'm a big fan of positive thinking and use the Mental Management programs with the archers I coach, often recommending the pro's attend Lanny's private sessions, so I guess as you said...  I need to be saying I will focus... I will focus, I will focus while I change my process...
