So I came across a dz gold tip 5575 hunter, I am planning on shooting them out of a 55#@27" bow
Are there any down side to shooting these at 32" and tipping 175 grains?
is there a reason why some folks tell me I should get them cut before doing anything with them? I figured the longer length and a heavy tip will drop the spine enough to work. Thoughts?
Thanks for the response.
I think you'll be way underspined at that length and weight. No harm done in trying, though. You can always cut them down and lighten the weight later.
I shoot my G/T Traditional 5575 from my 55#@28
30 1/2 with 125 gn and fly like darts.
My 55/75 gt blems I just built shoot great from my 55 .Some were checked full length w/15gr alum inserts supplied and an attached 175 gr f/p.Others flew well cut to 29.5" and capped w/100 gr brass ins. & 175gr f/p.It was really like take your pick they both performed fine!
If they're too weak, you can always build out the side/strike plate on the bow to make them work.
Like McDave said you may be underspined, but try them and see what happens.
For me I never just cut a carbon first without shooting them.I start full length with the point weight I plan on shooting and tune and trim the length until I get the dynamic spine I'm looking for.You can tune and trim carbons without gluing the inserts in.What I like to do for my carbon arrow tuning is to use saran wrap. You can use alittle saran wrap and push the insert in with the wrap.It will hold the insert in snug enough for shooting. Then you can pull it out and trim and shoot it again. You will need a softer target like a bag target,so it doesn't grab too tight to pull the insert back out.I shoot through a shallow cardboard box, like 2"deep.The box will hold the arrows angle and the bag target won't grab too tight on arrow removal.I get my arrow tuning done without using any heat and without gluing. Then when I'm satisfied I'll prep the shafts and inserts for epoxing the inserts in.
John, that is a great idea, and wish that I'd would've known about it sooner! thanks!
