Title: Swinging Target
Post by: techieok on March 15, 2011, 07:08:00 AM
Just thought I would share this in case anybody else would like to try it. I had an old basketball laying around that I shoot on occasion. Yesterday I hung it from a tree limb, 17# fishing line and a screw-in hook like you would use to hang a plant. Give it a swing and start shooting. It's a lot of fun, and really takes your mind off the shot itself, and makes you focus on your target. I have some ideas to make it a little better. After you shoot you just use an arrow to push the ball back out to its normal shape again from the inside.    (https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=5fc3d5b921&view=att&th=12eb93c163c8984c&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_glaq9rp60&zw)

I have been hanging a golf wiffle ball in front of my friend's 3D deer. We have been shooting at it from 20 and 25 yards. I can hit it even in the wind!

The club I go to on Thursday night hangs, tennis balls, golf wiffle balls, stuffed toys and even has a machine to suspend ping pong balls in the air. The idea of the ping pong ball is to shoot it at 10 or 11 yards and pin it to the back stop. You pay three dollars for three shots. Every time you pin a ball, you put your name in for a 50/50 of the money you and other just paid. Winner drawn at the end of the night.

Aim Small, Miss Small. I miss small all the time! (:

Plastic milk jug with a bit of sand or dirt in it tied to a branch.  Give it a swing and hit it with blunts.

I hang pine cones or magnolia seed pods from a string in front of my target butt. When hit or the wind blows they swing and make the shots more fun. I find these smaller targets easier to hit than bigger ones...you know, aim small, miss small!

I and some other people I know have been using plastic pop bottles tied to low branches for at least 15 years.  You can set up a lot of targets for very little cost.
