Title: An "Owl" and a half - Picture HEAVY
Post by: Winterhawk1960 on March 13, 2011, 09:48:00 PM
This past week the mailman made the trip to the front door with a package from Grants, New Mexico. I had given Ed Scott a call and found that he had an eastern juniper, sinew backed longbow in a weight that would do me fine. The "icing on the cake" was that he also had a little eastern juniper, canvas backed longbow in just the weight that would suit my only Grandaughter to a tee.

I have been wanting one of Ed's bows for a couple years now so I had them both sent to me, sight-unseen. I wasn't disappointed in any way, shape or form. The bows arrived on Wednesday but with the rain that we have had all week......I wanted to wait until we had a decent day to take some pictures. I will tell you up front that I haven't shot the bow yet because of being in rehab for my right shoulder......but if either of them shoot only half as good as they look I will be an extremely happy camper. I took pictures up and down both sides of both bows limbs to show Ed's incredible craftsmanship so this is gonna be a "picture heavy" thread.

So........without further adoo......I'll let the "Owl and a half" pictures speak for themselves.

First off.......the "half"

Thanks guys.........I'm really pleased.

Pat B, I'm currently doing rehab on my string arm shoulder.......I had rotator cuff surgery and I'm NOT gonna draw a bow until the physical therapist gives me the go ahead. I'll post some after I get the O.K.

Very nice... designs are beautiful but very functional as well probably doesn't look like much in a natural blind against an autumn forest floor!!

Those look like the work of a more than one artist.

I mean to build authentic replicas of Native American bows is awesome but them to decorate them too calls for a whole different talent.

Congratulations Don!

I will be watching for your thread when you are given the "go-ahead" to start shooting again.

Thank you for sharing with us.

God bless,Mudd

Who needs fancy laminations with that level of incredible art on the back and belly of a bow!?

Is it  me, or is there actually some reflex/deflex in that strung Owl?

Amazing art and talent on all counts!

Smart move on the shoulder rehab. Do ALL that you are allowed as OFTEN as you're allowed and NOTHING that you're NOT allowed!

Awesome bows!!!  I am going to have to get over to see them both.......

They are beautiful, I can see a hero pic of you with that bow draped over a big-ol-buck in the near future.

Congrats!!!

Both very nice Bows!! Congrats. The only thing better than one Owl bow is 2 Owl bows! Or in your case a bow and a half!

Not just "see 'em"......you gotta shoot this baby. It's been talkin' to me......I swear it has. I haven't even drawn it yet and I think it's wanting it's limbs bent a little bit.

Man he looks like he has fun making his bows. I see some pictures in Tradbowhunter mag of some gemsbok horn bows he does. Very unique.
Not able to shoot with that in your hands, no wonder it's talking to you!
Good luck on the mend.

Don, how are you stringing those bows with your bad wing? Seems like owlbait should have an owl bow...maybe some day! Post pics when you get a chance to shoot with your little darling.

Mike,

My wing is getting better. It isn't a problem to string them at all. Actually, I could probably draw the lighter weight ones. I'm just NOT gonna push it until the PT says I'm ready.......which I'm hoping isn't to much longer.
