Title: Heritage 150 Spine Question
Post by: Gator1 on March 11, 2011, 06:47:00 AM
I have a quick question:

A CE 150 cut to 29.5"s BOP, with a 145 Grain Field tip and no additional weight.

The question is, wha would this be equivalent in Spine to a Wood Shaft?

Thank you

I find you can not compare a carbon spine to a wood spine, they just react differently. Most all your wood shafts would be a larger diameter,so it would be hard to say. This has been my experience.

What JRY said.   Off the top of my head it sounds like a 55/60 or so would be where I would start.  What is your bow type, weight, and draw length?

Alls I know that when I was shooting CX150's before conversion to wood I know I needed to go long on the arrow and heavy upfront to get my best flight with 53#'s @ 28". When I went to a minimum length they would end up to stiff for my setup.

I agree on smoke1953 comment. Keep them a little long and heavy tips if comparing to a wood shaft.

Why would you patronize a company that doesn't put the spine in deflection in their advertising?

If ya go to wood and want to shoot 145 up front and A 29.5" BOP arrow, shoot a 70-75 grain woodie, bet it flies great. I shoot a 150 29.5"s with 175 and to match it a 77# woodie flies perfect out of the same bow. Shawn

Because they are the toughest arrows available.

Thanks for the input, I think Shawn answered my question in a round about way.

When I'm shooting my Heritage 150's at 29.5"s, the feather is tearing up my Left Hand and I'll bet these are way too stiff.  My bow is a 46lb cut 3/16"s past center. 46 at 28"s.

I don't notice this issue with 60-65lb woodies at all.

From my past experience, when I cut down carbons too short, it seems impossible to weaken them, with any amount of tip weight what so ever.
