Title: Bow Setup - What do you HAVE to have?
Post by: Over&Under on March 10, 2011, 07:46:00 AM
There are quite a few of us that seem to go through alot of bows - buy/sell/trade - (I for one have never fallen victim to that fate)...        :smileystooges:

What I prefer to have are beaver ball silencers and tie on nock sets. I also am rather particular in that I don't trust a string unless I made it myself. That way I know how many shots it has in it.

I usually don't change the rest that come with the bow,i have seen no differences in performances or fine tuning.I use the silencers I have on hand also here not much big difference. About the brass nock I keep it till the bow is fine tuned, because it is easy to movealong the string, then I replace it for a tied string because it doen't demage the glove.
In the year I have cut down the dimension of my tip protectors since a too heavy one can change the tiller. In the last few months I replace the 18-20 strand strings for a 8-10 skinny,in some bows it helped to quiet down,in others it didn't look to make a difference.I guess most guys like to play with their staff.

I set most of my bows up with Bear Hair on the shelf, velcro on the sideplate, I basically quarter my catwhiskers and put one set at the 1/4ths then split the distance between them and the tips. I put a brass nock above the arrow and tie a nock on below, (I shoot three under). I have a HH Cheetah that I kept the fur silencers that it came with.

Cacciatore, I hope most guys don't like to play with their "staff" LOL

Jacob,

I didnt relize it till I read your post, but I require the same exact basic items on my bows as well. Each of my bows regardless of make have what you stated above.

We all seem to be a little particular, maybe thats why we shoot Traditional. Each bow is different in its tuning, thats why I like so many of them.

Mine is the same as well, minus the tip protector.

I usually leave the leather on the shelf on my longbows, my Shrews I like the calf hair.. Never had any luck with catwhiskers, I DO like the Hushpuppies the best.
Some day I'll learn to tie on a nock point, dont like the brass ones.
