Howdy All-
I'm very close to ordering one of these Pacseats from the Asbells (esp if my WTB post in the classifieds doesn't get some action). I've liked the idea ever since I listened to joebuck give a talk at the PBS banquet in Nashville. I'm not a pro redneck tinkerer like him and am unlikely to build one for myself.
I had a couple questions for the folks that have a pacseat. I'm sold on the seat's comfort from all the posts I've searched and read. What I'm not convinced of is it's ability to haul anything more than a daypack or ghillie lashed onto it.
The pictured straps look a bit anemic and painful to lash much weight to the frame. My questions are - has anyone upgraded the hipbelt and shoulder straps? It looks as if ALICE straps could be substituted easily and increase comfort in case one were to lash dead deer parts and carry out. I thought that a loadshelf or loadsling ala Kifaru or similar could also be added to strap on awkward items and not make the setup too bulky.
Any other mods that folks have made or would recommend?
Thanks for y'alls experience and advice.
David
David, I also would like t see what others have done to improve on a great seat. I have used mine at least a dozen times this season and some of my thought are in agreement with what other have said. It is light weight as for carrying, easily adapt to your surrounding in that if a tree not available to lean against the swing out support works great. As for comfort i'm mixed on it as I find it still hard to sit without some discomfort in my thighs and butt after an hour or more, but i'm not well padded in that department. I also find that the way the straps are attached with latch pins tend to make some noisy while carrying and sitting if your not careful on how you place them out of of the way. I believe the seat frame is more than robust enough to use as a pack frame and use for packing as you described, but I would agree a better strapping system would be preferred. If you load it up the current straps would tend to "bite" into you.
up for the early risers
I didn't buy mine for a pack, I bought it for ground hunting turkey and deer. It's perfect for this because of its light weight, comfort, and mobility. There is no problem carrying the average day pack on it as it is.
I haven't had a need to modify mine any, but the way it's constructed, it would be simple to fit just about any belt/shoulder system on it. There's no problem drilling additional holes in the frame if need be for any attachments. I'm sure it would have its carrying comfort limits, but I'm also sure it would be a capable substitute.

What Molson said..........
Appreciate it fellas.
Did it take long to get? Website says 2-4 weeks.
Placed the order, we'll see how it goes.
David I'd be much surprised if you weren't totally happy with your new Waldrop Pacseat.
I love mine but like the others I don't use mine so much a pack as I do for a light weight comfortable seat.
I do carry a day pack with quite a bit in it.
I can tell you if you fall into a brush pile on your back with your seat on it, you're gonna feel a lot like a turtle that's been flipped upside down...lol My experience is that it's a lot tougher to get up than one might imagine...lol
The best of luck with yours.
God bless,Mudd
Money well spent! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's a great piece of gear.
I like the looks of the chair, but the angle to the backrest looks to be too far back. Is it just the pics which make it look that way?
I have one as well.I have used it 5 or 6 times so far.I have also temporarily attached a small backpack to it.No problems and I am well satisfied with the seat.Gonna use it this spring for turkey hunting.
I liked mine so much, I bought another. I don't think it took much more than a week to get mine. I will say, there is nothing uncomfortable about the original straps. What Molson said purdy much sum's it up for me. No disappointment's! Jason
I love mine...not a problem to mount a pack. I carry mine with me all the time....use it at the hotel...it's that comfortable for me.

I have the same question. The backrest appears to really lean back and that, in my opinion would not be comfortable and would appear to be hard to get out of for us old guys. What say you guys that have them?
I have one of the first ones he made, and mine only works against a tree and is not made to stand free. It does appear to lean back a lot but in reality, it depends on how close to the tree the seat is positioned, and it is easy to adjust that. I use mine all the time and it is hard to beat.
The chair is preset reclined but is adjustable to an upright position. I normally like to sit upright and I was surprised to find this position to be much better. The seat just follows you forward actually giving you support as you move your shooting position. It's not hard at all to get out of. Just lean forward and stand up. It's kinda hard to explain but the minute you try it out you'll understand. It is a well thought out design.
I was talking to Bob Morrison and he's thinking about putting a swivel seat attached to it. Seen it and it's pretty slick. As for use as a pack frame don't see a problem because you could do alot of things with this seat. But like Molson said, I bought mine for the same uses as him. Best of luck to you.
I' d love to see some picks of one modified with a swivel.
What type of adjustment can be made to the seat to make it a more upright position? Is there a different bolt hole for the seat, or what exactly?
foxbo,
How you control how "upright" the seat sits depends directly on how close you put the most rearward legs towards the tree. The closer to the tree you place them the more upright the seat will sit.
Winterhawk1960
The seat can be adjusted by tightening up the cords on the under side of the seat, which will take up the slack so that you sit higher. The only drawback would be the bar might cut into the back of you legs.

I have one on the way. Look forward to trying it out this spring. Not planning on using it as a pac frame but would love to have to try. Will add my opinions after receipt. Thanks for posting. Input by fellow TradGang members is always helpfull.
Winterhawk, I understand about the distance factor from the tree. I was referring to the angle of the seat as installed onto the frame of the chair. Kevin's picture shows exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks Kevin for the excellent pics. So, tightening the seat strings can change the angle of the seat somewhat. That's good to know. I have one of the original seats made by squirrelbait from several years ago. I use it all the time and it has served me well. I was just wondering what would make me purchase this new one. So far, I ain't completely sold. Thanks for the info.
Kevin
Thanks for the pics also, it's a slightly different angle than I've seen in all the others. It looks as if the pack could be modified with new straps easily, and from the side, the seat portion looks a lot like an external fram load shelf if the pack can be worn with the seat out. I'd imagine that it could hold a few pounds since Biggie has R&D'd it.
I should have mine pretty soon, the day after I ordered it the Asbells sent me a "package is on its way" email.
David
Im gonna have to get me one of these !
How has this seat performed when hunting out of a pop-up blind?
I recommend using a face mask even in a blind as white shows up especially when sitting in a black hole like a DB blind.

(http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/xx116/Dirtybird_bucket/P1030226.jpg) A swivel seat really helps and is easy to do.
And folded up ready to go. (http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/xx116/Dirtybird_bucket/P1030228.jpg)
Ok Dirtybird..
Tell me the details as to how you did it.
:help: Please! :archer:
Nice pics Dave. Now go whack some turkeys.
Mudd, it's pretty darn easy. If you have a gander mountain near you pick up a swivel seat that goes on a bucket.(cost$12) Then just drill a hole in the SIDE of the swivel seat. Not the top because it will impede the swivel action. Attach to the front rail with zip ties and when carrying it just flip it up and attach to the top rail with a small bungee.
Would like to thank Bob Morrison for putting this idea in my head.
Thank you David!!
I assume that the hole is drilled into the base and not the seat itself?
Can you take a close up of it's attachment?
Sorry I am a slow learner!!
God bless,Mudd
Mudd I actually wiggled the zip tie through the seat close to the rail. Didn't want to drill in to the rail.
I knew there was someone out there a lot smarter than me. Thanks so much for the imformation. I went to the sporting goods store and got the seat this morning and I will attach the same as you. I tried it without being attached and it works like a dream.
It was great of you to post the photos and share your ingenious solution to help my quest for the perfect hunting chair.
I hope that in some small way my posts will be of some value to others.
Thanks Again
Thanks Tom, Bob put the idea in my head. I tried a couple different hinges but found this works best. The nice thing is is that it's cheap and makes great seat greater.
On the bungee I took off the metal hook and where the bungee cord is folded over and stapled I ran a plastic strap through it and a hole in the seat so that it would not come off. Now just pull over and hook the remaining hook.
Nice
Darn!!
I wish my mind would make the words into pictures so I could understand.
Please don't take this as a bash at you folks.
It truly is a problem for me when I can't see it in my minds eye. (slightly dyslexic or something I guess) Certainly not something new.
Printed instructions for just about anything are basically worthless to me unless there are pictures that go with them.
God bless,Mudd
PS: Trial and error does work for me but it can take a lot longer and ruin stuff.
Looks like a great modification. The only problem I foresee is that I've never seen one of those seats stay silent for very long. I sure hope it works out for you.
Well if it doesn't work atleast it was only $12
:readit: But they do make great icefishing bucket seats
Great looking seat. Like asked earlier, how comfortable & user friendly is it in a ground blind?
It is just plastic against plastic if squeaking just add oil.
I have been shooting and for see no problems.
Good luck :bigsmyl:
I sprayed mine with water for 2 days and still no squeaks. We will see. I'll probably remove it for deer season but for turkeys I'm giving it one heck of a test run.
Been a while since this was up....Now a few of these have been used some any reports, good or bad. I did search on the product review, but got no results. So what do you guys think of this seat? Just want to justify the cost, but if they work......
Best money I ever spent on a hunting seat.
God bless, Mudd
I've never hunted from one, but I have spent quite a few hours in one, in front of the campfire. I gotta say, it is THE most comfortable chair I've ever sat in (That didn't have a TV in front of it) & I found myself trying to 'get' the Pacseat during the usual campfire musical chairs (you know, when you go to get another barley-pop & someone pinches your seat)
I dozed off in it numerous times too! :D
If it's that good, I'll never see a deer. I can sleep standing up........LOL!! :biglaugh: I hate wake'n up and it's dark and I missed supper!
Best seat I ever used I've been hunting on the ground for Deer over 30 years. Well thought out design for the trad bowhunter. Money well spent for me!! Just ordered a Bison Gear Pack to go with it.
How tall is the seat? I've had both knees replaced and have trouble getting to low in a sitting position.
What happened to the swivel seat pictures?..I want to see them.
???
Bretto the seat is not tall. It is a seat for ground hunting which generally means low to the ground. At the highest your rear is maybe a foot off the ground.
Many ask if this seat is good for pop-up blinds and I would answer no it is not. It sets too low to the ground to really be comfortable in most blinds I've been in. There are better options in my opinion if you hunt from pop-up blinds.
As for ground hunting in natural blinds, with a ghille, or just sitting up against a tree this seat can't be beat. It is superior in every way if you are looking for portable, comfortable, concealable ground hunting freedom. It is absolutely worth the money.
Thanks Molson. I Think I need something different for My needs.
