Title: Question on fletching Easton Axis .500
Post by: Javi on March 09, 2011, 09:04:00 AM
anybody able to get 5" feathers on a Bitz helical to fit..

I'm ordering a dozen shafts to try but don't usually use 4" feathers so I'll need to order some if I can't get the 5" to fit...

Any information is appreciated..

I shoot them and fletch with a Bitzenberger. If you don't mind going to a little trouble, you can file the clamp a bit to perfectly mate along it's length to the shaft. I use a 10" half round bastard and the aluminum removes very easily, just put it back against the shaft to check your progress as you go. A small light shined from the backside makes the gap you are closing easy to see. The process takes about 30 minutes at most.

I'd rough them up with sandpaper before I put on the fletches.
