Out of all your bows what do you like to shoot?
Hard for me to answer.
I shoot two bows pretty regularly. One is 54# and the other is 60#. I voted 55-60.
I shoot 45# for 3-d and 50# for hunting. Reason is sometimes we shoot 3 3-D rounds in a day and the 50# just gets too heavy after a long day of shooting.
My Leon Stewart ! for hunting MY Palmer !
All my bows, lucky me, are 47-50 pounds at my T-Rex draw of 26".
... mike ... :D ...
I shot 63-75#s for about 8 years, than had 2 shoulder operations and now all my bows are between 51-56#s at my 29" draw! Mikeys bows would be perfect for me, ecsp. the ones that are 47#s at his T-Rex draw!! Love ya buddy! Shawn
Real dang heavy!
Matt
I shoot from 65# to 120#. But, I am a nut job.
Matt
I generally shoot at 65#, but as I am getting a bit older the lighter bows seem to be calling me.
Should read 40-45, 46-50, 51-60, etc. Wasn't sure which to pick, I shoot 45# most often. Was shooting 65# then everything started hurting 'til I dropped draw wt. Now I shoot better than ever and don't think I'm missing anything in bow performance.
50 or 55# Leon stewart.
I draw real long 31" with a longbow and 32" with a recurve. I prefer bows in the 40-45# @ 28" range which works out to around 50-55# at my draw length.
50 # to 69 #
All 6 of my bows are between 45 and 50#.
53-57///////////
I used to shoot 70-83# bows and loved them, but I fell off a roof last summer and landed on my right side and buggered my right shoulder. I hung up on a bull many years ago rodeoing and tore up my left shoulder pretty bad. I healed up OK from that one and could still shoot my heavier bows fine. I am 57 now and this past summers injury has made it to hard to shoot my heavier bows anymore. I have settled in fine to a 55# bow and will use it for all my hunting here in Idaho now. I have gone to a heavier broadhead and higher FOC and I'm probably gonna stay at that. I sold my heavier longbows, no reason to keep them if I can't shoot them anymore, but I sure enjoyed them while I had them. I am a firm believer in shooting whatever poundage you can shoot accurately, since ultimately it is where you put the arrow that counts and the sharpness of your broadhead when the point is on target.
71#-90#
My two main bows are in my sig line & so far I've hung around that weight range.
45-50...
I'll be 58 in a couple of weeks.
You should shoot and hunt with whatever poundage you are comfortable with.
My favorite at this time is a 75 pound longbow that I can shoot in all kinds of positions, hold at full draw comfortably, and shoot being cold in freezing weather when necessary.
It's a little more than the average, but then I'm a little bigger than average too.
45-50
In my best days early 30's anything over 70 lbs was to much. Some of you guy's are animals.
All my bows have been 58-65 for past 15 years but recently been getting them in 52, 54# at draw length. When I shot a lot the 60# is fine but otherwise the 52-54 is more comfortable and accurate to shoot....
55-60# recurves.(nut)
In my prime 65 - 68 #s @ 27" . After injuries to both shoulders (not archery related) I am pulling 38#s @ 25"s . I'm r/h & my left shoulder begins to wobble after a few shots if I go heavier . Anyway , I agree with Larry - some of you guys are animals . I'm keeping my BroadHeads sharp and letting them do the work .
Just for fun I'll post this video. This is my 120# at 28" English War Bow.
I draw 27 1/2". Probably only 27" with this thing.

Its in my Sig....Aloha
I shot a 63# @ my 29" draw for 14 yrs. I decided to drop a few lbs of draw weight last year. I'm shooting a 57 # recurve as my main bow. I also have a 60# long bow, and 48 lb '66 Kodiak.
Anywher from 46 to 59
All my bows are between 47# to 50# and thats where I like em...
55-60
I've been shooting light poundage recurve bows for the last 47 years. I couldn't vote in this poll because one of my bows, the poundage isn't listed.
Without a doubt, my favorite bow is my 37# recurve.
All my bows are between 59# and 71#, but, i work out on a constant basis and (so far) have had no injuries or shoulder problems.
my average is 60-70.
I shoot a Bob Lee recurve #56 @ 28" but i only draw about 27".
45 lb recurve
50 lb longbow
55-60 for me
My preference is for 60-66# but i shoot from 45(old bows that I collect) up to 80# for keeping strenght.
Ive only owned 4, but Ive had a 60" bighorn,56" Blackwidow SA, 58" Blackwidow PSA and now have a 58" Stalker Stealth.
Sorry I read it wrong ! :dunno:
Ive had a 54#,57#,56# and now a 51#
Due to old age and health only 45 to 50 at my draw...am in process of working myself up to about 5 more lbs. this summer.
Mine is a 60# AMO actually (and I draw 27")... the next one might be a 50#
45#-70#
When I was in my late 20's I shot 85# @ 29" ...
Now in my 60's I shoot 47# at 28"
I currently have two bows. The one I shoot on a regular basis is a 50# recurve and my other bow is a 58# selfbow.
45# to 50# is enough for me.
Winterhawk1960
Hard for me to answer as well since I shoot 54# and 56# bows normally!
i have 2 bows. both are marked 53@ 26.i pulled both of them on a bow scale and they are both 55@26
Looking at the results of the poll, it seems to be going about what I would have thought. Over 50% are in the 45-55 range with a slight edge in the 45-50. Isn't that what everyone used to shoot in the golden age of archery? Seems like we are coming full circle. All of my bows are 45 to 48 pounds.
I normally shoot 55#@26" but have and shoot bows from 45# to 60#.
Well it looks like the 50-55 lbs is pulling ahead a bit, thats the range I use for hunting, but for 3-D I shoot just under 50lbs thanks for all the input guy's.
I've recently returned to traditional archery, and have a long draw. I am enjoying my 45#@28" bow, which I hear is 50-55# at my draw length.
I shoot 45 - 55 at my draw length. My hunting bows around 52.
Its funny when I was in my 20's I hunted with bows in the mid 60's but after a break I am shooting with bows in the low to mid 50's I am working on my form and it is amazeing how much better I am shooting
I do plan on hunting with a bow in the low 60s wish I would have done this years ago
Prefer low to mid fifties due to my lack of moderation in practicing. Love the feel and release of much heavier bows.
My bow is 54# at 28 and I draw 28.5.
54-60 in the winter, up to 70 when I shoot more often.
49@28.5 Dorado, 52@28.5 Savannah, 54@28.5 GM2
Between 55-60 pounds.
my hunting bow is 53@28 but I enjoy my 3D bow at 41@28 more. it is just a sweet shooter with just the right feel...

On the contrary, you are a dedicated archer who is willing to work at his craft.

Most bow I got in the late 80's are between 62@29" and 64@28". I would like to go down to about 50 to 55 @ 29.
Never thought that at age 59 with a bad shoulder that I would be able to do it, but I have worked my way up to shooting bows in the mid 50 pounds range both right handed and left handed and as an added benefit my shoulder issue seems to have disappeared.
What that did for me is let me buy a 55 pound LH 1960 Kodiak yesterday with complete confidence that I will be able to shoot it well. A year ago I would have considered that bow much too heavy for me.

45lb longbows

60# @ 29" in my go to bow...Blacktail Elite
I have one bow, HH Big 5 (68")- 48# @ my 28" draw. I can shoot it all day long, which I like to do...
45-50lb ILF's
My Silvertip is 54# @ 28". I draw a little over 30". I see no reason to have a bow any heavier than that. JMHO! Jason
I shoot 60 to build strength ,makes 55 feel real good. Shot a 73 lofton long bow ,killed every deer i shot at with it . It also killed my shoulder.

Hunt safe Shoot straight Tell the truth
45# to 56#.
Maybe someone should start an age-to-draw weight ratio poll!?!
Pearson Cougar 43#
Sovereign sonoran 55# at my draw length
I'm a 55-60 guy.I'd like to get a 65# bow for off season training/blank bailing.
From my experience selling bows and other threads on here I noticed that 45-55 is the most popular weight range. You'll have no trouble selling a bow in that range for sure.It also seems to be the "Adequate to kill anything" range as well, with bascially 50# being the "standard" of trad archery.
At least that's MHO.
Started out shooting 45-48, however recently bought new limbs for a different bow at 55-58. I am enjoying shooting the heavier weight.
Most of my bows are in that 51-53'ish range.
My favorite bow is 67#. I shot one that was 86# for a while, I liked it but deemed it unnecessary and went to the 67#er. I also have a 53# that I shoot some. All weights are at 28" and I pull abuout 28.5".
God Bless,
Nathan
I like to shoot bows of 49-52 @27" anything higher and it hurts my old bones!
My Hill's are 56-61 @ 28. I draw 28.5 these are good weights for me.
I have 3 50#'ers and 5 in the 62-70# range. I get a cleaner release with the heavier ones. I'm not old enough, yet, to shoot anything over 70#...maybe in 5 years when I turn 60 I'll be stronger!
:biglaugh:
For me, one bow, 45 lbs is heavy enough to hunt, but light enough to shoot 3D or field all day.
Currently, 48 - 55 lbs.
I like to shoot my 38# the most.
