Title: skinning a bow affect tuning?
Post by: ozy clint on March 06, 2011, 03:21:00 AM
i've got a few blemishes in the finish of my recurve limbs and they needs refinishing and i've always liked the look of snake skins so now would be a great time to do it.
have you had to retune after adding skins because of the extra limb mass? or did you notice no difference?

Hey Ozy,

I skinned mine and didn't feel like I had to.  I never put it on a scale or anything.  My set up still works great.  I used Tite Bond III and then finished with spray in poly.  Good luck!  Be sure and show some pics of the finished project.

I've skinned A LOT of bows and the difference has been very minimal for me. The scale has shown an increase of a pound or so here and there. Some customers swear the bow is faster and has a heavier draw weight, but I honestly cant feel it myself.
