Title: footing wood shafts and spine
Post by: canadian on March 05, 2011, 09:21:00 PM
When adding a footing to a wood shaft does it affect spine.  I would assume that a heavy footing material would weaken the spine.  Is this correct?  Should this be taken into consideration when ording shafts?
Thanks, Jonathan

Yes and yes. Depending on the footing material it can add some weight.........................cocobolo for example weighs 2.5 times as much as cedar per inch so you are adding the difference between the two. Ask the person doing the footing how much stiffer you are going to need. I would go up one stiffness category to allow for the added weight if you use a heavy wood.
