Title: End of my broadhead debates
Post by: mnbearbaiter on March 05, 2011, 05:56:00 PM
Ive really been prying about broadheads lately and its been for good reason! Ive been tryin to tweak my setup for max penetration this fall! Heres what i have...Bear montana #55@28"(my draw length),  KK German Mountain Pine shafting 65-70 spine wt, 525gr after oil soak and 685gr finished arrow wt with a 160gr pt! I plan on using a 160gr Snuffer for turkeys this spring, and using a 160gr STOS in the chase of the four legged kind!

Those Snuffers will put the smack down on a whitetail too, just keep em sharp.

Those STOS heads work well, I have used the 160,s with great success. They are easy to get scary sharp, fly perfectly, and penetrate exceptionally well. This has been my experience with them at any rate.

I'm with you bearbaiter.  160 snuffers on turkey and whitetails and going to use the 160 stos for this years elk hunt.

Sounds like you are all set-up, well tuned and sharp. Both are great BHs and will do their job. Good Hunting

It should be a good setup i would think! In the past i shot everything with the big 160 Snuffers and i was more than pleased! Ive shot deer, turkey, and bear with them and they leave a bloodtrail that Ray Charles couldve followed! Been tinkering with my homemade penetration tester, and the STOS blows the Snuffer out of the water, which is expected!

good choices indeed!

my fave is still the longer and narrower 125 grain wensel woodsman glue-on bh.  with a woodie, i add a 60 grain nail footing for 185 grains up front total (which also strengthens the shaft behind the point).  with a carbon i use 125 grain adapter and 100 grain brass insert for 350 grains on the nose.  i keep thinking about other broadheads, but in reality, and for me, the woodsman does it all for any game from bunnies to bison.

They sure look good.
