For me it all depends on the draw! I have as good a chance as ever at drawing a Shiras moose tag  or a Mtn. goat tag, but I won't hold my breath. I've been seeing such great bulls this winter that it wil be hard to take my mind off of Elk hunting no matter what I draw LOL! How about you guy's? Also are any of you guy's scouting for fall yet?

I had a great one planned, but with our new Governor wanting to cut state funding this year drastically to State Universities (where I work) I have had to put it on hold, but not counted out just yet. I will say that it was to go out West though.
I have a Texas hog hunt coming the end of March. Then it's turkeys, and a dry spell after that until deer, elk, and fall turks. I will fill in the summer with a trip to Alaska (sightseeing, not hunting) and camping near home. Nice bull in that picture!
In order:
NY Snowshoe Hare
SC Hogs
NY Spring Turkey
NY Carp/Frog/Snapping turtle
CO Elk
NY Bear
NY Deer
NY Small game
Elksong, I will need some elk hunting tips when you get a moment. I am a virgin Elkhunter :readit: :bigsmyl:
Mike -I had planned on going out of state myself, but has my tied to the home state also.
Centuar -I am hoping to get to Alaska one day, sight seeing or hunting, doesn't matter! Sounds like a good year.
CR- Looks like you'll be BUSY! Send me a PM and I'll try and help if I can.
It's been a couple years since I've been able to get out of state due to finances, but I'm thinking elk in CO this fall. Otherwise, turkeys in a few weeks, then bowfishing and squirrel season opens in late May.
Elksong, very cool photo! 3 years ago I had cow called & a bull responded to me 150yds out, he was a respectable 6-point. I called again & same "get over here" response. I knew right then he wasn't coming but he expected me to! I did. I got to within 30yds of him in dense cover & was doing my best to get a visual of him as he'd just screamed at me seconds before I got to my ambush hidden spot which was a spruce tree with limbs hanging to the ground, I peeked through the branches of needles & saw a bull nearly exactly like your photo.
All I could see was ears, eyes, nose & rack! He was slightly looking uphill in my direction but was behind a huge down-fall instead of rocks as in your photo, but the same scene! Thanks for helping me re-live that memory!!
Oh, & yes I took that bull at 18yds with a 55# longbow! Thanks again!
ElkNut1
We need pictures of that one. I would love to see it. ^^^^^
Dnovo -Good luck on the Co. hunt, LOT's of elk this year!
Thanks Elknut! Seeing some great bulls here this winter. This one showed himself all the way a little latter also. You can see I tried to "tie him up", I gotta use something stronger next time!LOL!

each year i hunt deer right here in ohio...so thats my plan,we have a deer camp called DEER CAMP(WN)...had it several years now and those coming have taken some real nice bucks on public land...anybuddy is welcome, all thats required is proper licenses...and a day of scouting is preferred ,best in the spring time...i'd like to see some trad. hunters in camp...
I am really excited this year about spring bear, I fart around with it every year but I am going to hit it hard this year. Looking forward to turkey as well.
I will have maybe 4 or 5 days of early sept to hunt elk before heading to AK. I am going to tree stand some for Elk pretty stoked about that.
Then Nov. whitetail.......wahoo!
KK- The hunts close to home are alway special.
Stick - I wish we still had our spring bear season :( . You hunting over wallows, trail or feed in the treestands?
I packed some stands in a LLLOOOOOOOONNNNGGG ways in a few years ago, one over a real tight natural funnel, it was productive though I never killed. The other will be over a wallow. I have alot of faith in that funnel, so it will be hard to not set.
Just Michigan whitetails for me. Waiting for snowmelt to resume scouting. I marked a bunch of locations over Xmas, when we had the big thaw. Hopefully will resume scouting in 2-3 weeks.
That's awesome, Stickbow. If you have faith in a place there is proably areason for it. Good luck!

I'm planning on returning to Colorado for my second DIY Elk hunt this year. Plan on bringing my first ever longbow this time. I was fortunate to take a beautiful 6X6 my first time out. The scenery is absolutely breath taking. We camped on top of the mountain at 10,000 feet and it was the best time of my life. The P&Y Elk was just the icing on the cake.
HH -It is an awesome place I feel blessed to have been born and raised here. Do you put in for deer also, or focus totally on those buglin' bulls!?!?
No I just go for the over the counter Elk tags. We hunted just outside of a small town called Parachute and hunted in the White River National Forest. I was discouraged to only see a few Mullies and they were does.
HH- I live 30 min. from Parachute. Our mule deer have been hurtin' for a few year, but they have come back good in several area's.
Glad to hear that. I hope to see more this year. Love those little critters on top of the mountains that look like a chipmunk but must weigh 5lbs. What do you call them? Good luck to you this year. Small world that I chat with someone who lives 30 minutes from where I drive 36 hours and 2000 miles to chase Elk!!! How cool is that?
Planning on hunting hogs and turkey this spring. Can't hardly wait until March 26th gets here.
I've got elk on my mind already too. Seems like it is a year-around thing! I have a pretty good chance of drawing a LE elk tag in Utah this year with the points I have. Really hoping that comes together. I would be sharing it with a great man and mentor who is a great caller.
HH -Kinda dark-reddish brown animal? Marmot or Whistle pig. If it is what I am thinking of?
Snag what unit in Utah?
Elksong, I put in for Manti. I didn't have enough pts. to draw Pahvant, San Juan, or some of the other top units. But from folks I talked with I think I'll be happy if I draw it.
For me, if all works out, it will be Spring Turkey, general season deer and general season elk. I've got to find someone who will let a Wannabe1 tag along for elk though.
i'm your huckleberry tw...just say the word..goin into the eaglecaps with felix, bjorn and joe d but i will also be going to the area i told you about on the coast range for another 5-7 day hunt.you are more than welcome to come along bro.
Larry, please let me know what dates you are planning on the coastal range when you know. I'll do everything I can to see if I can work it in.
tw...i plan on hunting the eaglecaps the first week or second, depends on moon phase.then the next week for at least five days on coast.i'll keep in touch.
Going to Northern Quebec for caribou, and then just the usual moose, deer and bear around home.
My hunts for 2011 are Wisconsin for spring turkeys, Colorado for elk in September, then Iowa and Wisconsin for whitetails. I scouted at our place in Wisconsin yesterday, and the sign looked great! I can hardly wait!
Bernie Bjorklund
NC Iowa/SW Wisconsin
48# Spirit longbow
45# Martin Hunter recurve
Going bowhunting for pheasants tomorrow.
Just the archery or muzzle loader deer hunt here in Utah. Which ever I draw. Have not had a chance to scout yet. Our mountains are still loaded with snow, with more coming in this week.
SE Alaska black bears and deer. Close to home and the price is right. If I can swing it turkey in New Mexico. My 12 year old drew an awesome youth hunt moose tag (only 10 given out) so we're heading north in September. Hooters in the spring as well (the birds not the girls).
The big trip planned is a whole season ( if needed) backcountry elk hunt, Colorado. Taking my son for a HS graduation present. We're heading into the backcountry a couple days before the season starts, and will be there for the entire month. Another friend of mine is supposed to meet up with us a little later in the hunt.
Our plan is t oset a basecamp, and then do 2-4 day trips out from there. The good thing about the long trip is we can take our time, take a day off here and there to rest and do some fishing and grouse hunting too.
Our deer season starts a couple days after we return, and will be hunting whitetails here at home, as well as a trip to Ohio. That should about do it.
I'm headed to Ontario on a bear hunt with some great guys. Place just opened up for bear last year. 16 for 16 on bear for his hunters. Ought to be fun.
I'm also once again applying for moose in Maine,NH,and Ver.
MN spring turkeys here. I hope to get my first with a bow this year after hunting many years with the shotgun. I may get to sneak in a hog hunt down south if my partner gives me a call.
Our group is applying for NM elk for the first time this year and our backup is CO or ID OTC. Then the normal deer hunting here in MN.
Next one comming;bear!
Awesome! Sounds like some great hunts planned. Some of you guy's are makin' me jealous!
I don't really scout hard until August for deer and elk, but I will keep tabs on the bucks and bulls during the winter to see what's out there and see if they make the winter. Took a picture of a bull in town on Thurs. nice 6x6 and saw him yesterday and he was a 0x0. First one I have seen shed so far.

Hey Elksong, Is that a tracking device around his neck. Thanks for the info on the marmot or whistle pig. That's great. I will have to remember that the next time I see one. Beautiful bull you got a picture of earlier in the snow by the way. I hope thats one your after
Going to Kake Alaska to hunt giant black bears feeding on the salmon runs. Combining with a moose tag. Self guided with a couple of buddies, actually very affordable. Airfaire is the only killer.
Planning on going to west central North Dakota for mule deer with fellow Tradganger bfisherman11. This will be our 5th try and hopefully this will be the year.
I am heading to KS for the turkey opener 4/1
Then to Neb for a 5 day turkey hunt 4/15.
Having the knee replaced May 6th. Will re coop over the summer . Then head to Alberta in late sept for another Moose hunt. finish out the year at the home place.

Bow in VT
Praying for my moose tag...will probably use my smokepole for my first one. Then bow on the next.
NC spring turkey
NC Deer
NC small game
SC hog
? Canada black bear?
NC black bear?
It all depends on what I draw as to what I hunt. Time and money will keep me in state this year most likely. I have a great opputnity to hunt Idaho bear this spring if I get the time to go.
In state I will chase turkeys ,deer and elk for sure. I have good odds on drawing ether a nanny Mt.Goat tag or a cow moose tag this year. I'm getting itchy to get out chase game instead of pouring over mapps, aerial photos, draw odds and shut. I'm hoping to get some of the sheds off the big bulls around here this spring.
Looks like most of are gonna chase turkey here pretty soon. I hope all of get at lest ONE opportunity to get THIS close! LOL!

Well, lemme see....August antelope hunt in Wyoming, followed by the Colorado elk opener the very next week for a pack-in hunt, then West Virginia deer, probably a few days chasing Ohio whitetails, and the annual hog hunt in Florida. Retirement is great! Still "trying" to get used to it. :jumper:
I've got at least 4 years before retirement so I'll stay close to home chasing whitetails. I might be able to kick up some rabbits with the new beagle and there's always some squirrels hanging around.
I do have an October trip planned to the eastern shore of Maryland chasing Sika deer again. These guys are a real challenge and fun to hunt.
Drew WY elk tag so I'll be putting all my eggs in that basket this year besides the usual stuff around home.
I'm getting very very excited for turkey hunting in a few weeks too! I've been checking ScoutLookWeather daily to anticipate the big day. Where is everyone's favorite place to turkey hunt?
Found out last week, my hunting bud won't make the moose trip this year. Outfitter doesn't want to take a single hunter, so I'm back to square one.
My main objective is my semi annual moose hunt. I may end up with a different group this year. I also hope to make it for 10 days instead of just 6. I have done no scouting other than looking at maps as it's a 17 hour drive away. I will also do some deer, turkey and grouse hunting this year.
Maybe Black Bear again, maybe elk?
Looks like Moose just came off the list. Getting ready to punt.
I got a kelpie to take the place of shorty my male kelpie he made it 16 yrs it got bad at the end brings a tear to my eye lucy and me are gojng to trinity co. and take after apig this spring
Hogs next week in Oklahoma, at home spring turkey, and then wait for October turkeys and whitetails thru January.
Florida Hog / Deer hunt this fall, Maine Deer in Oct. Other assorted Varmints and critters year round!!!!!!
Will be going with my son this September on our first antelope hunt (oklahoma). Have plans of checking out our options in May. Will be interesting to see how we will address getting close, ground blinds or ghost shield.
Heading to British Columbia with good friend and Trad guy Bill Peterson for MOOSE in September. Gotta do it before we go over the hill. Some say I've already gone over.
Heading to Idaho for a backpack elk hunt with T.J.in September -- providing I can get this old carcass in shape!
Jerry
