Today I received my Chastain Wapiti back from Big Jim's Dipping operation. This is Predator Fall Brown Deception.
After dipping the bow is smoother, faster, more quiet, and Left-handed -- kidding of course but I do like the look!
I also had a Bear B Mag riser dipped in the same pattern.

It looks cool Roy and for sure an efficent camo,I don't know what was the previous look to tell if you did good.
-
Thanks Felix.
Here's what I started with. Of course none of the critters I encounter will be any more or less fooled by the two different looks but the Predator patterns are my favorite.

Yes Roy,now I remember that Desert camo, for sure the camo dip are much more dull and less reflective than our fancy woods risers and limbs. In any case I think your is anice addiction to your groving bow arsenal.
-
man that looks awesome
-
Awesome Roy!!!
-
That looks amazing! Much better then the laminated wood on the before photos IMO.
I also had a Bob Lee dipped by Jim which was also a plain Jayne laminated wood.
-
Roy
Very nice camo.
If I was in market for a camo dip, I now know exactly where to go. Not suprising to receive something from Big Jim that is less than spectacular.
-
Awesome looking dip bud.
-
Roy,
I got my Wapiti Recurve out again after 2 years and it still does the same as your arrows at the turkey target.... :D
We need to meet someday and I'll etyou try some other gems...
-
That first pic really shows the effectiveness of that pattern. I have to really look hard to see the limbs and make out the shape of a bow. Very nice!!
-
I like it!
-
Very nice looking dip job on the bow. I might loose it if I laid it down in the woods.
Quieter? Why do you think?
PS: That is one dead turkey! Good shooting.

John,
I was just kidding about the list of attributes beyond the appearance. I guess Big Jim rubbed off on me. He told me he could "sight the bow in for me" before he sent it back. I thought that was hilarious!
This is the quietest bow I own though, with or without the camo of course. This bow is so easy to draw I had to measure the draw weight again tonight. Because of the limb tips the bow just feels different than my other bows.
I like the Predator camo. However, I'll have to say I'm a tad worried that the pattern I picked might have a bit too much white or ivory in it. I'm hoping it doesn't "shine" in a turkey blind. I know it will blend nicely with the limbs of trees and the sky though if I deer hunt with it.

I have been wanting to have a bow done for quite sometime now! That just looks awesome right there!!!
-
Any pics of the B riser? Limbs too by chance?
-
Looks Great! I have an A-Mag dipped in the same pattern.
-
Awsome job Got me thinking.

COOL BRAKE UP,,,NICE PATTERN,,,,

fantastic !

John,
Here is the B Mag. I didn't have limbs dipped because all I have at the moment are Rose Oaks and it violation of proper sense to cover up Brandon's work!
You'll note this is a RH riser. I put all new screws in the site plate and strike plate. I haven't replaced the strike plate because the original is in great shape. Some of the replacement parts were provided by Monte (Inrut).
In a day or two I should have brand new latch kits and I'll put those on instead of the old ones although the originals are in terrific condition.
The only thing I don't like about this riser, other than not a LH like me, is the grip doesn't seat perfectly against the riser. There is an annoying gap there. Almost as if the grip isn't original?

Roy,I really like that work on your TD handle,I am thinking to send my A Mag riser, since it is a little beaten and with too many holes,so it will never be a real collectible other than a great shooter.
-
Felix. BigJim can sandblast the riser clean for you before dipping - saved me a bunch of work! Of course you'll probably want to plug the extra holes and sand smooth before sending to get dipped.
If you need parts: screws, strike plate, rubber shelf pads, leather plate or latch pads, or even the little Bears for the latches, "inrut" (Monte) makes just as nice as the originals!
I have the opposite problem regarding dipping my LH A or B Mags. Both are in pristine condition and I can't bring myself to cover them. Frankly, I was sort of silly buying this RH riser but maybe my son will want it. I guess I just wanted a "project"?
-
Love the way that pattern breaks up the outline of the bow, very effective!
-
Bowwild,if that riser is presenting you with problems, don't despair, just give me a shout !LOL
-
Those sure look sweet!
-
Pretty cool for sure, but on a trad bow I like the wood grains!
-
I had Big Jim camo dip s few sets of Bear TD limbs for. He did a great job, the limbs look super.
-
Roy, very nice looking dip job. If you don't mind me asking, did you have to do any prep work to the bows finish prior to sending it in to be dipped?
Glen

Glen,
I took off all hardware that I didn't want to be dipped: latches, sight window plate, and strike plate. The riser was acutally in very good shape and really didn't need refinishing but I wanted to try a dip job. It had a couple of paint-deep chips on some corners. I was going to roto-brush the entire finish off until I called Big Jim. Glad I called him because he has a much better way.
Big Jim offers to sandblast these risers. Mine was an easy job so it cost only $20 to have that done before he dipped it.
This riser had the allen adjustment mechanism missing because it had been a bristle brush rather than a strike plate-adjustable rest. I found a bit of hardware this morning that allwed me to install a threaded mechanism with internal allen screw. Now the strike plate is adjustable via the little allen hole on the side opposite the sight window, just like originals --very cool!

Awesome Dip! And to have it sighted in by Big Jim to boot!
-
Hello Roy, Sure am glad you like the Chastain, the dip job looks awesome. Happy shooting, Jerry.

Man every time I see one of these threads go thru I just drool all over my keyboard. I'm not even into camo that much but just something about this trips my trigger. I have a bow I'd just love to have this done on and now you've went and made me do it! lol Great looking bows.
