placed an order with Steve for a Northen Mist Shelton this morning. #55@28, 68 inches with American elm limbs and birds eye maple handle and tips. Steve was a pleasure to talk with and a tremendous help deciding on the spec's. hope to pick the bow up in person at denton Hill this July. i allways have something written on the limb and was thinking "soothe your soul" as that is what the Adirondacks and bow hunting do for me. would love to hear some other ideas from my "like minded" brothers and sisters. this will be my deer hunting bow and hope to make some memories with it here in Gods country!
Great bow and bowyer choice Ken! Good Hunting!
Congratulations, sounds like a great bow in the making!
Birdseye maple is amazing
Now starts the wait and the anticipation :)
F-Manny
I can't wait to hear your impressions on that bow, I've been so close. Currently I shoot a Baraga.
Great choice Ken! You will really enjoy it.
Eric
Ken,
You will be pleased with your choice. Mr. Turay is one of the finest folks you will meet.
Gregg
Double post
Good deal Ken, can't wait to see it! Got plenty of wait time to come up with a good saying for the limbs.
Thats awesome Ken. How about the "5th Direction"? The email you sent me explaining what it means always takes me back. Great times, Great people, Great memories...
Casey
I shoot a Baraga and Whisper and, honestly, both provide an incredible shooting experience. I was stump shooting in the snow this past Monday with my Whisper and was reminded of how efficient, silent, and smooth Steve's bows are. You will be amazed at how your Shelton spits out heavy wood arrows.
Casey,
thats funny becouse auctually "soothe your soul" in my mind IS 5th direction and was what i was thinking. maybe The 5th direction on the bottom of the limb?
would love to hear what set ups anyone is running through their Northern Mists. when i talked with Steve i explained that i wanted to run a heavy arrow with a 160 grain broadhead with my max range at UNDER 25 yards. he was EXTREMLY helpfull with my kazillion questions.
If I am correct, that is a string follow design. Both Howard Hill, and Dean Torges talked about the virtues of a smooth drawing hunting bow with minimum hand shock from this style.
Pretty good reference when you consider the sources.
Now starts the wait until July.
I shoot douglas fir shafts tipped with 145gn. Stos heads. Total wt. around 605 grns. I'm pulling around 51#from my Whisper. This combo is dead quiet and there is virtually no handshock. Most of my shots are 15yds. or less.
What about adding on the riser a hunter star (or on the limb ) like on muzzleloaders of the fur trade era?
May be a star with a 5th direction?
You're gonna luuuuuv her! :goldtooth: Two Sheltons here.
PMed Ya, Ken ...
Yeah man!
Ken, I also think you made a great choice from what I have been hearing and reading. As you know, I've got an itchy trigger finger for a Shelton.
Surprised there isn't a "Shelton Bug Bit Me" thread yet. sounds like you picked out a nice combination of pretty wood. She'll be gorgeous and deadly.

I got one in a trade a couple weeks back. Excellent bow. Mine's a little heavy for me but not too.

Ken
And just have it sent to me.
The shelton is one I never got to try.(yet)
Many good thing wrote about it.
Are you going to have the GREEN Glass on it? :campfire:
Now the wait.
i was thhinking about the green but went with clear as i think it will show off the elm a little better. i have "pick a spot" on a selfbow, put that there right after i missed a buck!
Got a Whisper on order and very much looking forward to picking it up in Baltimore.64" 50# s 26"
Love the Shelton! I'm thinking of ordering another one myself. But the last thing I need is another bow....or not. Cant wait to see the pics.
Ken - Congrats on the new bow. Shelton has always been high on my wish list. I'm looking forward to seeing your new bow!
Nice choice,I love the elm limbs on my curve!
Leatherneck, "need"....   That has never been a factor for me!!! Most of us have way more bows than we need. It is the one vice I allow myself to indulge...and all with my wife's blessings if you can believe that.

Wow brother David, you are truly blessed...and just as sick as the rest of us...LOL :p
Ken,
You'll enjoy your Shelton.I have had a Shelton (54# @ 28, 66"long temp.'boo limbs with clear glass) for about 5 years and lovin' it.
Got a green glass, temp.'boo limbs takedown (56lb. @28 by 66" )coming early in April.
Been using Sitka Spruce arrows (55-60# spine, with 145-160 grain FT's and B'hds) and occasionaly GT's blems (cause they're cheap and more expendable then my woodies)
Good shootin' to ya!
3under, the green glass is special...real classy.

You will love Shelton. The bow will be perfect when you get it, Steve's craftsmanship and attention to detail are top notch. When I first took mine to a 3d shoot everyone just got quiet when I shot, they could not get over how quiet the Shelton was. I had offers on the bow. Here are a few Northern Mists, all shooters that were easy to tune and hit where I am looking. The Shelton is on the right next to the Huron and Whisper...

David,
Hope to see you and the
"Green One" at KyTradFest
Larry
How about one with a Locator grip ?? Any Thoughts ... Im up REAL SOON ...
Ken, any more though as to what you will have written on it?
i'm thinking "soothe your soul" on the top limb and "5th direction" on the bootom, what do ya think?
I still like "Custom made by Steve for Charlie" :readit: ;) ;)
Ken sometimes you have to lose yourself to find yourself. 5th direction can do that to a guy.
I had a super ghost with the green glass and the pictures do not catch how nice it looks.
bro i lost myself from age 13-30, i'm in a good place now. hope to grow old with this bow and roam the mountains for a LOOOOOONG time!
What I meant was it could do that to a couple old blokes tromping around looking for turkeys. :readit: :biglaugh:
