Do any of the sponsers sell footed wood shafts? Did a search and coudnt find anything.
Also, Im just getting started with wood arrows (always shot carbon) -- I have a 54# Tall Tines Recurve that I draw to 29" so I need a 30" arrow. I would like to shoot a broadhead in the 175 range. What spine wood arrow should I start with. I have heard to add 10lbs for modern recure and 10lbs for 30 inch arrow and heavy broadhead. Does that sound right.......would a 75# spined wood arrow be about right?
I cannot answer your questions about proper arrow spine. I still use the methodolgy I learned about arrow spne 40 years ago.
The new Trad shooters use something called the Stu Miller approach to determine spine.
I have looked at the Miller approach and I find it rather complicated.
However, I have made footed arrow shafts in the past and am currently working on some at this time.
Footed arrows are not difficult to produce, but they do require a certain level of acquired skill to make a good shaft.
The are a couple of firms online who sell footed arrow shafts. They are about $100 or so per dozen.

Ted at Raptor Archery sells footed shafts, has several kinds of wood for the footing.
Ted is the guy alright..............I think you may ned a bit more spine-footing adds weight up front. Talk to Ted about what you need.
Kye from Great Basin Footed shafts sell his shafts here. I think his Tradgang name is Purple Sage. I buy lots of shafts from him, he does great work. Last I talked with him, his "real job" was getting busy.

See "thefeatheredshaft.com" where Rick makes a virtually indestructible footed arrow. He sent me & 5 others heavier footed arrows to destroy. Mine shoots from a 90#@28" Hill Tembo tipped w/judo.
In 2 months (2-3 times weekly) I've spanked everything from killer pine cones to center punched oak logs, rocks, mud bricks, etc. w/o a scratch. My Springer retrieves this same arrow by the fletch much of the time. I'm sold. (No kidding!) PM for more.

I can give a recommendation to Kye at Great Basin Footed Shafts, he is a nice guy and has treated me well. By reputation I would also look into Ted at Raptor Archery and Bob Burton at Whispering Wind Arrows.
@straitera: These shafts you got from Rick are footed with a reparrow style footing or one that can be made with an arrow-fix tool.This is a very different foot when it comes to impact strength than a 4 wing foot. The 4 wing foot are by far not as strong and if they fail usually leave behind an unrepairable arrow.
I think you get best results using little 1.5-2" long footings made from black locust and hickory, and maybe ash. You need a springy wood which is good to work with...

Tecum, I believe you are corrrect. He must use a jig. It is too perfect & strong.
I shoot 80# spine footed shafts out of my 55# @ 28.5" BW PL and they fly great with 145gr heads on them. More weight up front from the footings equals a need for a heavier spine shaft.

I have just stated making footed shafts and the results have been very good. I can see no difference on the effect of spine as I was shooting 60 pound spine before footing and after footing these same shafts there is no difference in arrow flight. I have used two types of wood thus far. One that spines light and that is Osage and one that spines very high and it is an exotic of unknown origin that I salvaged off a pallet.
The whole process all takes time but the most time consuming and difficult part is shaping after the footing is applied. I am doing it as is is one of the very few things in archery that I have not done.
If someone just wants footed shafts they are a real bargain at$100.00.
If you have the time and you feel that you have the skills then have at it can only enhance you more in the ambiance of traditional archery.
