Title: Stos, Delta, or No Mercy
Post by: ka on March 01, 2011, 10:27:00 AM
Needing to pick a new broadhead for this coming season in the 175 gr. range. Will be used on Whitetail exclusively. Any preferences of one over the other. Pluses and minuses. Thanks

Im assuming that this will be on an insert, as none of these broadheads come in that grain wt? They do however all come in the 125gr or so range, and i believe that you couldnt pick a better trio of heads to choose from, assuming that you shoot an avg hunting wt bow/arrow combo!

Z Delta would be my choice, depending on your draw weight and draw length....and it will weigh in at 175 grains with the long aluminum adapter.

Haven't played with a No Mercy, but I did just sharpen up two packages of the Stos and they seem to be of very good steel and construction.  I really like the stepless and extremely smooth ferrule transition and see that as a good rib splitting feature. Hoping to introduce one to a whitetail this fall.

Nothing wrong with Zwickey, though.  We're fortunate to have so many good choices.

Many good choices indeed otherwise they weren't able to last in the market.I like them all and I love to change them to help the economy of all the people involved in the Trad archery business.

That's true.  The Zwickey Delta is the same age I am.  Introduced in 1959.  Cliff Zwickey made one you'd recognize as related to the Eskimo starting in 1939!

THAT is longevity in broadheads!  Only Ace is older.

The STOS are great heads. They are well built, good design and they fly great.

I always tell people if in doubt go to the Z Delta or Z Eskimo either 4 or 2 blade.  I find that most who are sharpening challenged can get them sharper with less struggle than most other heads.

STOS work really well on tougher animals too, and that would be my choice on whitetails.

Those are all good ones.  Shoot them and see which one flys best for your setup.  All three will shoot through any deer just keep them sharp.

Of the three original choices, STOS gets my vote.

1. whichever one you get the sharpest
2.  whichever one flies the best to put the sharp broadhead in the correct spot

other than that..personal preference

I've always wanted to give the STOS a try!

Then again I've loved the looks of the green ZW's since I was a kid.

I'm partial to the STOS 160 gr.
