As i want to get as much practice for hunting as possible in adition to my normal excercise i like to attend as many shoots as possible at the moment. Was at another shoot at Saturday. Perfect weather, lots of friends in my group and a beautiful setting made for a perfect day.
The organizer is known for his shots to be hard at arrows, one guy in my group lost i think 6 or 7 woodies due to stones and trees next to the target, i was lucky enough to only loose 2 nocks and points, those footings hold up great!
Well, long story short, in the class for Longbows i won and im im sure happy now!
Some pics as a little redemption for my bragging
The shoot was inconjunction with a medival town festival, so there were alot of aparelled archers, too.
Werner was really good:

Ahhh yes, the Germans know how to do it right! I love the old cellar fox shot, and the castle in the background. Someday I would like to make it over there before my time is up.

Yea the elk is huge. Great pics buddy.
Randy,I would prefere yours!!
Forget german 3D shoots: as hunting practice it is totally useless, but the stones in Kirchberg are fun....
Hunting practice is guided by the hunting method you'll use. That means shoot from a treestand, groundblind or from the ground in similar conditions as your hunt will be at hunting distances. Use the same quiver, not a seperate target quiver. Use your hunting quiver and your hunting clothes if feasible. This doesn't need to be camo....
The timing aspect is overlooked by most archers not used to bowhunt. Bad timing can cost you a lot of good shooting possibilities at game. Don't ask me how I know that..
This is best trained with another guy giving you different stories about what happens with your intended target (3D or animal silhouette doesn't matter, but silhouette is cheaper). The narrative will force you to shoot at a specific time.
For example elk hunting: Shots are often under 10 yards in the black timber, but need to happen within seconds, because the elk are moving through. So this is the time for automatic "quick shooting", not time to think.
Think about this Mr. Grubenreiner...
looks fun.
Nice pics. Thanks for sharing.
Loved Germany pretty country. Looks fun.

Tecum-tha, I don't know what to make of your post, but hope that it's part of an inside-joke with an old friend, in which case you'd know his name is Reingruber.
Axel, many thanks for the photos of the shoot. Looks like a very beautiful place. And congrats on the win!
Nice to see how you do it across the pond.
Congratulations on the win. Looks like a lot of fun and some challenging shots.
Looks like an enjoyable way to spend the day. Attractive country and nice looking targets.

I know its not best hunting training, but every from of shooting is somehow practice, isnt it? And i wrote in the initial post "in addition to my normal practice". Though those far shots wont happen while hunting, they make those short ones easier for me.
And doesnt the fact that its fun justify it after all?
For those scratching their heads, i know tecum tha from a german forum where my username is "Grubenreiner"...but im no Mr. though ;) !
thankyou for showing us your play ground.very nice.
Nice place, thanks for the pics.
Neat! Thank you.
Are you a Mrs.? :D

certainly
Dang Axel I wish I could have been there. Still got to tune some arrows to the longbow that I got two weeks ago. It's killing me I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
After I get of this guard duty I'm going to have to catch up with you and fling some arrows. Hopefully they don't extend it, Wenesday and Thursday days off don't let me do too much since I don't have a car yet.
Blake, ive found several courses round Mannheim and getting a free Wednesday or Thursday wouldnt be a problem for me. I could fetch you with my car and we could go shooting, just pm me when youre ready.
Will do Axel. Just have the arrow issues right now. Kustom King sent me the wrong nocks and they don't want to fix the problem, and I don't have a target area I can use here to tune. I'll probably be off this shift by the time I have my tuning kit going let alone arrows set up.
Looks like a fun shoot.
I lived in Germany when I was a kid. We lived outside of Frankfurt, in a small town called Langen. It's a beautiful country & there is alot to see and do.
The beer festivals are great, but my dad wouldn't let me drink, cause I was only 8. Go figure. javascript:void(0)
I'd like to go back to retire there, but my wife won't let me!
