I just recently started shooting woodies out of my longbow and have to say that I like everything about it. I like making them, I like the beauty of the finished arrow, I like the "sound" they make as they leave the bow, I like the good flight once everything is tweaked and tuned properly. While talking with a shooting buddy of mine over the weekend, he mentioned that recurves "don't like" wood as much as longbows do. Anyone here care to comment on that? Does wood not shoot as well out of recurves for some reason, or do you generally just need to increase spine due to the center/cut past center situation?
I've shot wood out of my recurves since I started shooting about 30 years ago. Don't know where your friend is coming from.just my 2 cents.
i only shoot wood and my bows must be messed up because i think they love wood more than any other material they shoot so nice out of them stick with wood

Yup, I've tried every arrow material known to man and seem to gravitate back to wood for the very reasons you mentioned. I've never noticed a difference in accuracy either, but that may be because I just don't shoot well enough to notice ;-)
wood outta be good as any when its matched to your bow, I shoot wood, alum, & carbon, wood seems to be the softest feel upon release.
all my bows love wood.. they have no choice..
I really don't think the bow knows the difference, whatever bow you use, if the spine is correct. The arrow will work.
Some peopple seem to think at times that the longbow is the more traditional bow and therefore requires the more traditional arrow. all that proves is the some prefer to wear tights when they roam the woods and others have a more subdued dress code.
No reason for wood to shoot better or worse out of a longbow vs. a recurve.
You still have to get the correct spine regardless of whether you shoot a recurve or longbow. Wood arrows shoot fine from a recurve. I have shot them from mine no problem.
Maybe he is confusing the fact that an arrow that is right for a 45# longbow may not be good for a 45# recurve? This COULD be due to more effiency and the cut of the shelf on the recurve.
Recurves aren't that smart. They can't tell what you shoot as long as it's tuned.

Anybody who wears that stuff is just a wannabe. Everyone knows that real bowhunters wear loincloths, which is what they were doing for thousands of years before that Brit upstart Robin Hood fella came on the scene.

One of those archery urban legends that some folks pick up on without knowing what they're talking about. He may have seen it written somewhere or heard someone say it and just accepted it without question.

Wait a minute,... what's more subdued than a nice pair of tights?
My Bear Grizzly shoots best with woodies, but it will also shoot carbons and aluminums just fine. For right now I prefer woodies, but have been thinking about carbons just for the straightness factor they offer. You can bet I'll still have my woodies just in case.
