Title: Scouting's Arrow of Light Presentation
Post by: Ric O'Shay on February 26, 2011, 07:15:00 PM
A couple months I posted a few partial pictures of the Arrows of Light that I had made for Troop 681 in Waxahachie, TX. Last week they were presented to seven scouts that had achieved all they could as a Webelo II and were moving up to the next phase in Scouting.
The event was the Annual Banquet held at the Ellis County Expo Center. Our  evening opened with a barbecue dinner followed by the awards ceremony. The seven scouts and their parents were gathered on the stage and presented their Certificates of Achievement.

Then everyone went outside and witnessed the very solemn and impressive ceremony. The seven scouts and their parents were gathered around a campfire as three Indian tribesmen taught them the significance of their accomplishment. They described each as they climbed the mountain on their journey, only to reach the top and discover many mountains ahead of them. Thus symbolizing their life's journey, but focusing on their achievements to be used to accomplish future goals in life. As their names were read out loud, each parent took the arrow painted with each scouts various awards thus far and presented it to their sons. The ceremony ended with the shooting of a flaming arrow across the sky. Then we came back inside and took more pictures.

My friend Walker and his Arrow of Light. He earned every badge available as a Cub Scout.

A huge THANK YOU!       goes out once again to each Trad Gang Member that contributed components so I could make these arrow for our future generation. We even have enough arrows for next year.

Those are very nice. I recieved one a long time ago that was not nearly that nice. My brother and I in a time of desperation ( we were out of arrows) cut the string and ribbon off of it and shot it till we broke it. Oh well.
