Title: No flash game camera's?
Post by: magnus on February 25, 2011, 07:42:00 AM
Anyone know of a camera that takes pics at night  with no flash. Or even video. Thanks in advance!

Yep quit a few of them.  I like the coverts.  Several models to choose from.

The IR cameras don't have a visible flash, but some of them have red dot lights that come on when activated. Those little red dots can alert deer (or thieves) too. You can cover them with a piece of tape, though.

My first game camera with normal flash was stolen, probably by coon hunters who were trespassing and got their picture taken. I've only used IR cameras since, and have not (yet) had another one stolen.

Thanks guys. Was thinking inferred. How are the shutter speeds to motion times? Meaning are they quick to take pics?

Shutter speeds very from camera to camera.

What are some of the fastest?  Hate to ask but don't have time to research.

Without a doubt, you need to look at the RECONYX HYPERFIRE (HC600).  Very fast, very small, no flashing lights and expensive.  Note that the infrared (night time) photos will be black and whites.  Let me see if I can dig up some pics and I will add them to this post so you can see how fast it will photo, in the trail mode, if you step thru the photos quickly, you can almost create a movie.

Note the time in the upper left corner:

Also, these units are made in the USA (Wisconsin) and no, I don't work for them.  My wife gave me the camera for Xmas and I am quite wowed by it's performance.  She picked this one because the last one got stolen, probably by someone that got busted being where he shouldn't have been having his picture taken and easily being alerted by the flash technology of the other cam.

+2 very good info.  Check out the Scoutt Guard 550, same as the covert.  Wildgame IR4 is a great one for the price.

Some of the fastest but not super expensive are Scoutguard,Bushnell and Covert.Keep in mind,at night you will have black and white pictures, not of the same quality as your daytime ones.

I am thinking the same thing. Our archery club has been broken into 2 times in the last 9 weeks. First time they took all the cooking things and heaters, next time there wasn't anything to take so they wiped human waste over every thing......So I was thinking of getting one and put it up in a tree near by to see what we can see.
Thanks for your time.
