Guys...I've been bitten by the long bow bug. I really like the looks of a reflex/deflex style design. My question is this -- do you simply have to pay a LOT more to get a long bow than recurve? I've owned a few custom recurves bought 2nd hand and never paid more than $250 for a bow. I simply don't have the budget for more than that. Any tricks to get a decent long bow in that price range. If you look at the classifieds the long bows are FAR higher priced than the recurves (generally speaking).
Any advice?
Check out Maddog Archery. Mike has a great price on his long bows.
Mikes longbows are a shallow R/D bow but, you will get a custom bow that is new and not used. Great guy to deal with and a great product for the working man.
Just because your not seeing a lot of used longbows in your price range doesn't mean there aren't any out there. I've bought several over the years. You might want to place a "wanted to buy" ad and see what kind of offers you get...
Check out Dry Ridge Archery. He makes a nice looking longbow for $200.
Stikbowsbydondow.com they are great shooters, quiet and affordable.
Put up an ad on the classifieds that you're looking for a $250.00 longbow. I bet you get some offers from some good people.
I saw a G&L sell today for around $125. Not only a bargain, its a steal.
Check out Don Dow stik bows.
Plus one for Maddog

Both guys sell nice bows at a good price.
right or left hand?
my 66" hybrid longbow cost me $300. i like it. accurate and very fast.
Like was said above....post an add "looking for a 200-300$ longbow" you'll get a response or two !!!
Maddog,hands down. Plus he's a sponser here.
I have a Don Dow longbow on order. It is a custom bow for $350. He has some stock longbows for just under $300. The main reason I wanted to try his bow was the grip was closer to a recurve grip than it is to a broom handle, which has been difficult to get used to. I think the reason longbows are seldom found at great prices used is they just weren't made for 50 years, whereas recurves were made by the millions from the 1950's through the late 1970's and you can get one for the prices you mention.
Another vote for Maddog, top notch bow - great price
right now there is a Morrison (thats right a MORRISON) Dakota for sale for $310. not a reflex/deflex but it is a STEAL!!!!!!!
I wanted a cheap long bow so I started looking at production models, Montana and Savannah. I went and shot a few of each of them. I ended up getting a Mutt from Maddog for $100 less than the Montana and I like it better than the Savannah. +1 for Mike!
My 2 cents, find a good used one on the classified here.
Lots of good info here fellas -- that's exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!!!!
