Just curious what type of quiver you like to use for hunting and the advantages and disadvantages if any? This will be my first year with the longbow and I wanted to see what works for everyone else. i will mainly be hunting whitetails from treestans and the ground occasionally but next year hope to try spring gobblers also.
I have two Selway slide on quivers. Like them both but they tend to move slightly every now and again. I have put double sided tape on the bow limbs to hold the quiver in place better. I also have a Thunderhorn two piece that mounts on the riser bushings of the bow. These are the best quivers I have found in my opinion. You can set them up to hold 1 to 6 arrows. I just bought a Thunderhorn Boa in the Small Fry model for my new longbow. It should be in the mail tomorrow. Check them out. They are nice quivers
A bow quiver is the best for me. All my arrows right where I need them and easy to manuver through thicker stuff and I can bend over, or stoop without a side quiver sliding all around. With bows being so light these days the quiver doesn't add much weight at all and actually helps stabalize the bow a little. JMHO - YMMV
I am currently using Great Northern strap on's, but the Kanatis with the angle bracket are Sweet!!
The ONLY thing I don't like about the GN is the two arrows tucked in next to the riser. But if you go though enough arrows to have to use those two, you are having too much fun to care about it!! :D
I use a boa strap on quiver. Steadies my bow, absorbs a little shock and you have your arrows where you need them all the time.
Tim
After all these years I still haven't decided what works best!!
I use Thunder Horn Small Fry BOA
For a bow quiver Selways are great but they're more bulky than the Eagles Flight and after using both I prefer the Eagles Flight. Eagles are usually a bit less expensive and they are featherweight.
For a hunting hip quiver, I'd give Steve Catts a call and order his Hip Hunter.
I like my arrows at my hip.
Here are two of my favorites. I find very little difference between using a Safari Tuff and a Dawgware.

This interferes with a fanny pack, so I might use a bow quiver. This is an EFA Totem, It is rock solid and light.

Killdeer
I've missed enough first shots over the years to know that I better have the next one at my fingertips. Crawling thru sage or tundra would just be too hard with a hip quiver.
As Ron W alludes - different situations call for different quivers.
I find a side quiver (w/foam insert for broadheads) is the best overall choice for my needs.
I also like a one or two arrow bow quiver when still-hunting for that all important first shot. But waving six yellow-fletched and crowned arrows at a deer from ground level in a bow quiver . . .
I went on a caribou hunt in 1997 with aback quiver and came back and put a bow quiver on and it has never come off. That back quiver got in the way of everthing. I've never regretted using a bow quiver and i like the selway and delta models. The thunderhorn strap on one would come loose on my bow while hunting.
Killdeer's possibles bag and quiver combination is a great way to go and of course she is dead right with the EFA (Eagles Flight) if you want it on your bow.

I prefer a bow quiver ... bolt on or strap on models depending on which bow. I really like a bow quiver better on my long bows to add weight and balance in my bow hand. I have used Selway and Thunderhorn with good results.
I have tried hip quivers but was not for me, too much trouble in thick stuff on spot and stalk.
I've always preferred bow quivers and I really like the GN strapon.
Side quiver on the ground, bow quiver up a tree.
Thanks, I'll look into some of these.
GN strap on for me. Adds a little weight and quiets my bow.
I shoot recurves. I use bow quivers that can be removed while practicing and when I get on stand. I like my quivers to be 4 or 5 arrow jobs as I carry 3 broadheads and one field tip. The field tip is for a shot at the end of a morning hunt.
My favorite quiver is one I bought from Big Jim a couple of weeks ago. It is a strap on which I didn't think I'd like until I watched his video.
i have a selway for my bear kodiak but dont really use it anymore. going to buy one soon for my long bows. eagle flight or big jims are the ones im looking at.
The Eagles Flight quiver works best on my bow. Very light weight and secure with no movement.
The Wing attachment that sets the arrows back in line with the limb and the Totem shaft between the hood and the grippers on this quiver are great features for a short forward handled bow.

After 30 years I still doin't know. I use them all in some form or fashion
I like the GFA quiver. It can be used as a back or side quiver.
Backquiver...Catquiver 3.5 and occasionally a GN adjustable.

Bowquiver mostly during NY Rifle season..

I like a relatively cheap hip quiver worn baldric style. There it is on my right side under my tragically high elbow...
I'm really liking my Big Jim's bow quiver...easy on/easy off, quiet, sturdy and looks good too.
Joe,
What is that curve leaning against the tree with the catquiver? Is is a Bighorn? Very nice looking lines!
Great Northern bow quiver for me

Bow quiver for me. All in one nice package mounted to bow. Arrows quickly accessed. Nothing hanging from your body catching on everything in the woods. Very quiet. The ultimate hunters tool.
I like the tube style by dogware
i REALLY like the arrowmaster i picked up from joe at prairie.

:) . Same here, I like a bow quiver the best, but I don't like waiving around a bow plus a quiver full of arrows when taking aim at a deer. I've been struggling with different quivers since I got into this hobby !
Dan
I use a selway and a Stalker quiver I would like to go a with a two arrow quiver like Tracy has on his Pronghorn Longbow.
I have a hard time picking one. I like my GN strap on but I usually like to carry more than 5 arrows. I use my catquiver 3.5 allot but that can get in the way when turkey hunting. I have a detachable hip quiver that is nice but flashes alot of color when I'm still hunting, and how can I leave out the nostalgic feeling of drawing the arrow from over my shoulder with a full two dozen projectiles ready to play. So ya have fun with them all :-)
Currently and 'til further notice, my Howard Hill back quiver. This is the 22" softer model and one heck of a quiver!
I use a back quiver. Most of my hunting is done in ladder stands. I can hang the quiver on the side of the stand and a follow up arrow is right by my side. When in my ground blind, I take my extra arrow out and lay it over my quiver as it lies right next to me on the ground. I am clumsy walking in the leaves, so I seldom walk through the woods as I hunt, so noise is not too big of an issue. Anyhow, if your back quiver rattles too much, you are walking too fast. I just don't care for bow quivers on my Hills. Oddly, though, when I shot the recurve, I always used a bow quiver. Go figure.
For ease and versatility, I don't know if you can beat a bow quiver. But some people just cant get used to shooting with one. Just make sure you practice a lot with one on your bow if you plan to use it hunting. I think most trad hunters probably have a couple of different styles. I have a homemade bow quiver but will occasionaly use a homemade tube style side or back quiver.
I have a Selway slide-on for my recurves, but no matter where I place the two pieces, I drop one spine weight. I have a Great Northern detachable quiver for a 3-piece takedown longbow that is nice, but it waves in the wind if it is blowing. I have an older Catquiver that I haven't used for several years and am thinking about donating to St. Judes auction.
I have used a GFA for the last two seasons and love it. I plan on making a plains-style side quiver this summer for field points, and a back quiver for judos and blunts. For hunting though, GFA is favorite to date.
I like bow quivers. I am using a Great Northern right now. I really like it. Light and quiet.
I have a Kanati 4-arrow on my old KS ... great quiver, really like it.
For a bow quiver Eagles Flight Archery...for everything else arrowmaster by Safari Tuff
Travis
I have tried bow quivers again and again, because of their convenience. They just aren't for me,. There are some superb quality bow quivers out there that do exactly what they claim....I just don't like the style.
I like back quivers for the range. I tried to use one last week hunting rabbits. Hated it.
I come back again and again to my GFA.....for me, best quiver ever.
I use only back quivers and I try and alter them to help with the little disadvantages they sometime have. for field plinking and stuff a clip on side quiver works great.
I use a Cat Quiver II for hunting and a field hip quiver for 3-d and plinking..
i ordered a bigjim 5 arrows quiver last night. guess ill see how i like it
Catquiver and selway depending on the situation but still oppened to other avenues...
Bow quiver for me. Sometime I like a back quiver if I'm getting lost of shoots on small game and in open country.
I have tryed just about everything out there. My preference is a bow quiver. Arrows are close to hand and helps keep everything together in one package. As far a bow quiver go, I like Zipper's custom wood quivers and the Eagle Flight strap on.
JL
Selway bow quiver for spot nd stalking in thick stuff,Selway hip quiver out in the hills and open prairie after antelope and mulies,Old Bear back quiver for small game and 3d shoots.
I shoot recurves and have Delta style quivers on all of them and would not use anything else. Have used the Selway slip on quivers on some bows and longbows in the past and they worked very well. Back quivers just do not sync with me neither do the Catquiver styles either, I just like having my quiver on the bow and prefer to carry 5-7 arrows since I always have a blunt and small game point along with my broadheads. I hunt on the ground, out of trees and blinds as well and have no problem with a bow mounted quiver and I cant my bow and the quiver works well with my form.
I use a Selway strap on and carry extra arrows in a Safari Tuff back quiver.
I don't hunt with my quiver on the bow but still need a way to cart the arrows around. My favorite (and the only one I use after trying many) is the Great Northere QD (quick detach) for my takedowns and the Great Northeren strap on for my one piece bows.
Bisch
Bow quiver for hunting deer and moose ( Great Northern - real quiet ) Back quiver for stump, grouse, 3D or any place when shooting lots of arrows.
Steve Catts Sidekick III-holds 3 arrows with the Ace 200 gr Super Express and 1 more with an Ace Hex blunt.
I recently ordered a Kanati angle quiver, along with the hip quiver adapter. So, I'll end up with a bow and hip quiver and that should fit the bill for both hunting and roving. Check out those Kanati quivers from Anneewakee Archery. They are very nice.
Thanks John!
I make my own. Carry 4 arrows and what I need in the bag.
I recently got one of Big Jim's strap-on's, 5 arrow model, and it is one sweet quiver. I also have one of his Stalker Side Quivers which I'll use mostly at shoots.
I like bow quivers for most of my big game hunting. That being said I have a side quiver that is my go to small game quiver.
I just got off the phone with john ,He spent about an hour with me to make sure I got the right quiver.
Kanati Angle Bow Quiver,
If you do research you won't find anybody who doesn't like their Kanati Bow Quiver.
I have the attitude that if you're willing to spend and Purchase a custom bow,You need to purchase just as good a quiver .
Now in the past I've used EFQ ,And they've worked just fine for me ,But I have moved to the sleeker and shorter bows,So I thought I would go with a quiver that was designed specifically for that type of bow.
I'm just the type of person if I look Long enough I will end up buying the product ,If I don't make choices on price, But Quality and ease of use ,Are the two things that I look for and I just thought the Kanati Angle Bow Quiver Would fit my need at this time for my new Griffin.
Carl
I like the way a good, well designed bow quiver can stabilize a lightweight bow and even make it quieter in many cases. Also, there is no more convenient way to carry arrows. If you get caught at full draw you can hide your face behind the arrows and bow quiver to keep from getting busted.
We have been so busy at Eagle's Flight Archery that we have not updated our website with some of our new products. These include a 5 arrow quiver, our "wing" setback attachment, a new armguard design made from horsehide, several improved tab designs, a 3 arrow horsehide quiver for primitive bows, and a conversion strap to convert any of our "totem" bow quivers to a stalker type quiver. Hopefully that will be accomplished in the next couple of weeks.
:archer2: :archer2:
I use a variety of bow quivers. I really like the Great Northerns. I also use back an side quivers that I made for roving, carrying extra small game arrows while hunting or just at the club range.
My back quiver, I made it andthe hickory longbow
(http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss224/snuffornot/TradBow/IMG_0083.jpg)
My side quiver that I made.
I've had a few, including a very well made Safari Tuff quiver. Honestly, the best one I've used is John Dill's Kanati Angle Bow Quiver. I picked up some extra mounts for my other bow, and move it back and forth. I really like the on bow angled quivers.
Best quiver out there, for me.
I don't like to shoot with a quiver on my bow so I use a old German Ridge spring quiver. It takes but a second to take off when I reach my blind.
I only use bow quivers,my favorite is Selway.
:deadhorse: :deadhorse:
Heh heh... I find use for a few. I like my back quiver for open country, rabbits, that kind thing. In the brush and woods, however, I prefer only a bow quiver, of which there are several fine models around. I have even used a bow quiver on my selfbows, although that irks me due to the asthetic appeal or lack thereof. Gonna have to try a plains style for that one of these days.
Overall though, I'd say a bow quiver primary with a back quiver secondary. And if I am going to use a bow quiver on the bow, I leave it on there all the time, so that the shooting is consistent.
I think Im gonna get a back quiver for, 3d, stumpin, and some small game. But for deer Im goin with a bow quiver. Kanati, Selway, GN or Big Jims, now I have to decide which one. I wish I had the talent alot of you have, you have made some really nice items. Great work! And thanks for all the replies.
When I am on the move I love my arrow next to my bow where I can reach them fast and easy,I can walk on the bush with easy and quietly.I am used to a bowquiver wait on my bows because I fine tune and practice with a quiver always on.Maybe up a stand a different quiver is as good, but I have only used bow quiver, and there are so many good makers around...

That looks about perfect - nice work!
Another vote for the Kanati angle bow quiver. I also have a GFA, side quivers, and back quivers, but the bow quiver is my favorite for hunting. I use the back quiver for stumping, but keep the bow quiver on so that I am practing with the bow in a hunting setup.
I prefer a bow quiver. I usually a backpack on, so the two don't work to good together. three piece, Kwikee Kwiver all the way. One piece, probably Great Northern strap on.

Have you tried a Cat Quiver I it will strap on your pack and has a sling for use without the pack..
I have two of these well made hip quivers from the early 90s. I added a shoulder strap and have been using it the same as a GFA quiver for years. I also have a GN strap on that I use maybe once a year or so but I just dont like a bow quiver hanging on my bow. (http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt261/yelojello/PB120024.jpg)
Backquiver.
Darren
All nice...
I like a bow quiver. the great northern on my longbow is quiet as a church mouse and doesn't move a whisker. It balances out good for me the way i cant the bow while shooting.
I've tried all the bow quivers, Selway, Boa, Great Northern, and love em all. My son just got a Kanati another sweet quiver.
DawgWare for me. I don`t like a quiver on my longbows. When I shot recurves a lot I liked a Delta style quiver and a black widow quiver.RC
Gotta support my NC quiver
makers Annewakee and Eagles Flight
thunderhorn smallfry!
BQ's only here.
Gray Buffalo; made my own hip quivers 20+ years nearly just like that. Except; they hung lower & I could strap them to my leg so it didn't flop around. The arrow rack swiveled so I could position it also. Great quiver there.
