What is the best way to brace a self bow...can someone show me how to make a long stringer, my bow is 70" ntn.
I use the tried and true push pull for longbows and stringers on recurves.
I use the step through method.
Either step through if it's real long or heavy or push pull usually works, although I don't blame you for wanting to use a stringer. A commercial recurve stringer works fine for most of my selfbows. Try that and see. Course, if it doesn't work, you'll have a nice shiner from the limb smacking you in the eye. :D
push pull for me,just keep the tip away from your face, especially heavy bows.
I hate having to use the push pull or step through...doesn't that make the limbs twist over time?
Pretty hard to twist the limbs on a selfbow. Step through could possibly do it, but not push/pull. Just make a couple of leather pockets and join them with a long piece of parachute cord for a good stringer.
maybe I may not be understanding the push / pull method...can someone post a picture or splain it?
It's in German, but this youtube video should give you an idea:

Oh, and don't try it with a recurve - dangerous enough as it is with a longbow, especially a heavy one, but with a recurve you can really poke your eye out if the top limb slips from your hand.
thanks
