Title: R/D Longbow for 31.5" draw.
Post by: Red Tailed Hawk on February 20, 2011, 12:11:00 PM
Recently discovered proper back tension, and with that I added quite a bit to my draw length. What R/D bows and what length bows have been working for you long pullers?

Good thread.  I draw around 31" and have been wondering the same thing.  I mostly shoot longer recurves and I have a 68" "D" shaped that I like a lot.  I had a 64" Toelke Whip and I absolutely loved the way it shot but I could not get comfortable with it at my draw length.  Dan is making a 66" now that may be perfect though to accomodate the longer draw.  Have also heard real good things about the Wes Wallace Royal for long draw but have not shot one.  Sorry I am not of much help.  Good luck...Shawn

I ONLY pull about 30" and I like a 66". Another 1.5" and I think I'd be looking at a 68". Mohawk, Northern Mist and Robertson all make a beauty of a mild R/D LB in that length.

I too have a 31.5 draw and i can say for me its just a matter of the diff bows,i have shot a 58" curve that suits me well, usually i lean toward the longer bows ,say 64'LB on up to 70" or 62" on up on the curves...i really think you will just have to shoot diff, bows and see what suits you...just my long draw worth...i know it would make things alot simpler for me to have a 28" draw, but its what we have been dealt.

The only short longbow that I could shoot was a 62" Centaur. But since changing to a 68" Mohawk at my 31.5" draw I'll never go back to a short bow.

Back tension is great once you found it!!!!!!

Leon Stewart, Mowhawk, Death Wish, Toelke Super D, all in 66 or 68 inch.  I think the Leon Stewart R/D longbow, not the slammer is the best for targets and hunitng.  The Slammer is awesome for sure, I am a bigger fan of the R/D longbow.

Dan Toelke makes a d/r long bow specifically for very long draw lengths. It is called the "66" and is a slightly modified variation of his Whip. You can see one on his site:  www.montanabows.com, (http://www.montanabows.com,)  then click on "current bow inventory" at top right and scroll down and click on Whips.

I have a 31.5" draw and my 64" tomahawk draws smooth to anchor. I would recommend at least that length r/d longbow... 66 would be safer bet depending on bower. Hope this helps

56" Shrew Classic Hunter, I can draw to 31 1/2" without stack.

Hills here all 68" ntn & over except 1 at 66" ntn. All my bows pull sweet for my 31" draw. The 66" really surprised me; but, 70" are my favorite.

Had a 64" Firefly- great at 31".  No pinch or stack.
