Title: Paper tuning setup question
Post by: macksdad on February 18, 2011, 03:16:00 PM
I have been trying several different arrow combinations trying to find the best setup for my bow. I am having some trouble, I can get good shots through paper with several different combinations of arrows and points. However I can't get any one combination that will shoot consistently through paper . Is this becuase of inconsistency in my release and form or do I still have a setup problem. Also is this possibly a brace height problem. I stand exactly 8 feet from my paper every time I shoot.

What kind of results are you getting?

This is my honest opinion so please take it with a grain of salt.  I think trying to achieve a bullet hole with traditional equipment is a complete waste of time, any slight torque on the forward hand, and an inconsistent release can cause different tears.  If it was me I would concentrate on bare shaft tuning more so than paper tuning.  Once the bare shaft tuning is dialed then, I would then place a broadhead on the front of a fletched arrow and compare the results with the broadhead against the results of the bare shaft and arrow with fletchings and field point.  If the results of these are consistent I would leave it alone.  Espicially if you are getting good broadhead flight.

I would also look at spine charts to make sure that you are matching the correct spine to your poundage.  Once you have matched the spine you can mess around with different weights up front to achieve solid bare shaft.

With that said, if your form is not consistent throughout the bare shaft, you will see variations on this also.

Once again, this is my opinion, others may reply with different opinions than the ones that I have.

I paper tune at 5 yards 15 (feet). This gives plenty of distance for my 32" fletched arrow to straighten out after paradox.

I tried paper tuning and found it for me impossiable. I bare shaft tunned my arrows and get great arrow flight, shooting the Gamegetter II shafts  32" with 125 gn. no fishtail at all. My Martin Jaguar likes a 7 1/4" Brace Height.
