anyone have any weird or different routine before heading out into the woods.?
Me,.. I always put in a lip of griz, and crank up the Heavy Metal on the way out in the truck.
Nope just rush out the door like a mad man.
I'm quiet, marvel at how I am always late, have coffee and try to scry the mood of the day and the ways of the wind before I leave camp. I seldom know which way I will go until I put down the mug and pick up the bow.
Killdeer
I check the temp. and look at the flag out front to see which direction the wind is blowing and how strong. Then dress accordingly, while picking which stand will work best.
No real rituals...although after this year I think I am gonna start burning some Sage. Because I had some sorta monkey on my back this past season.
:knothead:
I take two pieces of cloth, in one I place hard candy and the next tobacco. Tie them up with bright ribbon and tie them to a tree branch. Learned this from my grand dad who was full blooded Indian. It must work because I usually get my deer. :bigsmyl:
Coffee and cheese toast or some oatmeal then a quiet drive to my jumping off place. I change into my Bean boots check my equipment, draw my bow a few times to stretch my muscles. All the while I'm taking in the weather, wind and sounds of the forest. I glide silently to my stand, barely turning a leaf, intentionally leaving a trail that only a bloodhound can follow.
I make myself neurotic about how much I drink and eat. Make sure I go to the bathroom before or after the hunt... its rediculous. It takes only one bad experience! HA!
I also pray before I step foot in the woods. Thank god and keep me safe.
a lil prayer for Gods protection upon all that are hunting that day, and that if he decides to give me an opportunity that day that my arrows fly true.
I always check my weather radio to get the latest wind direction and temperature as well as the short term forecast, and pick my stand or still hunt and clothes accordingly.
