UPDATE: I emailed Johnathan Karch at 3Rivers Archery and suggested that they consider offering a feather chopper in the shape I've created as a tribute to Fred Bear (see the thread "Burning Feathers Like Fred Bear!") My design is based upon an accurate tracing of the actual feathers. I heard from Johnathan yesterday and they are talking about the possibility doing the chopper. Keep your fingers crossed.
FYI: I did not ask for anything in return for my idea or the use of my drawing. It's great shape and would be a nice connection for guys to have with Fred . . . a tribute carried in their quivers:^)
Very cool!
I bet they'll sell enough to make up for the cost of production. Not sure if they'll be able to use Fred's name on it though.
Gary, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 Rivers offer a chopper like you suggest. The company that makes them will make custom shapes. I had a custom shape made some years ago. I think there would be enough interest to carry a few in stock.IMO. I would like one myself.
It's my understanding that 3Rivers now owns the "chopper" so I guess they can develop whatever they want. I also assume that they will be able to use Fred's name; they've been offering a "Fred Bear" hat? When Fred was alive, and even afterwards when Frank Scott made the calls, it wasn't difficult to get their permission to use Fred's name or image for "good causes". Both men always gave me the thumbs up whenever I ask for ANYTHING. It was very informal and the buck stopped with them.
Sure hope 3R decides to make this chopper pattern. It is really close to what I cut now and a good chopper would be so much easier. Keep after them Gary! PLEASE!
I want to place my pre-order now. 1 ea Please ....
I haven't heard anything more from them. Hopefully they'll read this thread and see the need for marketing one. Keep your fingers crossed.
I think this is a great idea and a tribute to Fred Bear. I really enjoyed the thread by Gary and his friendship and insight to Fred Bear. I'd be for buying this chopper if 3rivers offered it and would probably dig out my old bear broadheads from the 70's. I killed my first archery deer with one of those broadheads. My fingers are crossed!
I liked that shape, hope they decide to offer it in a chopper.
Me too... I enjoyed the write up and really liked the feather profile. I dont own a burner but i have several lil choppers. If 3Rs comes out with one i will definately buy it
Good deal. I'm hearing this from a lot of people. It's 3Rivers call.
I heard from Johnathan Karch at 3Rivers this morning and they are planning on making a decision on this in the next couple of weeks. They would have done so already but some of the crucial players are currently at a sports show.
From what I'm hearing there is a good chance that a new "Fred Bear feather chopper" may be on the horizon. Like I said, cross your fingers and if you'd like to see this happen why not post your approval here just in case the guys at 3Rivers are watching:^)!
Gary, you had a great idea asking for that shape production.
Thanks Gary! I'm onboard, would really like to see this one come to the marketplace!
I hope Fred`s feather will fly again!
Awesome idea! I would love to see Fred's feather in action again. It would be on my arrows for sure!
Great idea!
I'm interested, great idea...
Thanks Gary! Thanks to 3Rivers too!

Like the design, what length are they?
Exactly 5 inches.
I would buy one if they become available.
That's great Gary, it's refreshing to see someone that's not just in it for the money.
I don't burn feathers but buy ready-made feathers. If they don't offer these as ready-made also I will likely get to making my own unless some tradganger makes'em and sells them (stringstreatcher...hint, hint ;) )
Thanks James. Like all of you I have a passion for these things. Getting to know Fred was a special time in my life and anything that keeps his memory alive is on a good thing.
I sure would like to chop them instead of burning. It takes months for the smell to go away. Hey 3 Rivers, add another interested customer. Thanks for sharing this Gary. Jeff
Also interested.
I'd buy one too, I like that shape.
I would buy one
Gary
Any news??
TTT for any update....
Not yet. 3Rivers told me that a decision might be made the first week in March.
Hey guys, just got back in the office and hope to get the band together later this week to talk it over. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
Thanks!
