Folks,
Just wondering what you guys use to fletch your arrows with? I see many models/manufacturers out there but uncertain what is high quality and suited to feathers. Please guide the green horn!
I like the Bitzenburger very well. Quality jigg.
the best IMO.
Another vote for the Bitz.
Bitzenburger hands down.
The Bitzenburger is definitely a great jig, but the Bearpaw one from Kustom King also works very well & is a bit cheaper. Can't go wrong with either in my opinion.
Bitz
I posted the same question a few weeks ago, I opted for the bohning jig, because of price. I have fletched about 3 dozen arrows with it so far and no complaints.
I have had my Bitz for 23 years now, no problems and still going strong.
I use the Bitzenberger, too. And fletch tape. If clumbsy old me can put a feather on a shaft, anybody can.
Bitzenburger is all I've ever needed.
I have 4 Jo-Jans that I got used from here.
They work well for me ,no problems
No. 1 = Bitzenburger. The heavy magnet, quality of the jig, and adjustibility of the clamp makes it easy to fletch a light helical to a tight helical.
Bitz for me.
jo jan
I've used a my bitz. for 35 years. Works great, lasts a long time.
One more vote for a Bitz. They work perfectly and are made to last for many years.
trust me, ya don't
need a bitz. most any single vane polycarb fletcher will more than get the job done for $30 or less. :readit:
and if it matters, which it shouldn't, i've been building arras since the mid 50's and have owned at least 5 bitz jigs.
Years ago I bought a Jo-Jan Multifletcher and have never looked back.Makes fletching a doz. arrows real easy.
Thanks for all the input! Seems bitz wins this vote by a fair amount. I'll start researching a source for one and hopefully be in business within the next week or so.
Bitz will last liketimes.
I have three Bitz.
:archer2:
Jo-Jan multifletcher for me. 1/2 dozen arows complete in one hour.
Bisch
Jo-Jan MultiFletcher for me.
polycarb jigs are far more accurate than anyone requires and easily as accurate as a bitz, will take incredible abuse, have an indefinite lifespan.
i've had a martin j8 polycarb fletcher that's at least 20 years old, probably more, have fletched many Many hundreds of arrows with it for both 3 and 4 fletch, it's as good as new in both looks and function. now, it's my dedicated 75x105 offset 4-fletch jig.
for helical i have 2 bohning polycarbs, one setup for 3x120 offset and the other for 3x120 helical.
just got a new grayling polycarb for $32 @ braveheart - what an amazing, precision quality fletching jig that will do 3x120 and 4x90, for solid performance/quality value. this is now dedicated as my 4x90 helical 4-fletch jig. this jig even comes with an added rotating idler shaft arm that's multi-notched to handle both skinny carbons and fat woodies. imho, this is the best quality, performing, priced, and overall valued fletching jig available anywhere.
nothing at all wrong about a bitz. they were the first commercial cast metal fletcher (instead of bent/riveted metal like on the hoyts and jans) and before the age of solid hi-performance plastics. ymmv.
Just got a Bitz via a Cabelas gift card.....wish I'd done it years ago.
If you can't afford a Bitz, BPE is another great fletching jig to consider. I've been using one for the past 12 years and have great results.
I've got a pretty vintage Jo-Jan (Mono) and a Bitzenberg, both with RW & LW clamps. The Bitz is the dux-deluxe of fletching jigs, but I still use the Jo-Jan on occasion. Looking at an arrow afterwards I can't tell which was used. I do prefer the Bitz when fletching tapering shafts as it can be adjusted to the shaft much better.
It's nice to use quality tools. If you've got the cash the Bitz will serve you well.
BITZ
Bitz here.
I've had a Bitz and a Martin jig for several years now. No complaints with either. If I was in the market for a fletcher I'd either buy the Martin or similar poly fletcher with both LW & RW clamps and the money I'd save on a Bitz with one clamp I'd buy other archery accessories I needed or wanted.
I used my bohing for about 15 arows... then it fell apart.. i went and got a longer screw at the hardware store (it kept unscrewing as I fletched...
i bought a bitz and can only say... you save money in buying a quality jig, ONCE!!!
Looking at the Bitz, it appears that you can only do one feather and one arrow at a time. Seems like it would take 45 min. to an hour to do a single arrow? Maybe I am confused.
The jo jan has 6 slots and seems like it would do a dozen arrows muchhhh faster.
Sam,
You are correct. I use both the Bitz and Jo Jan multi fletcher. I'm never in any hurry when I make my projectiles. Just take my time with either jig.
Bitz and fletch tape about 10 min or less.

True. Just how fast do you lose arrows? ;)
If I was making them to sell I'd either have a dozen Bitzenburgers or a couple multi-fletchers. For home use, I'm usually in no huge hurry.
I like my Jo-Jan multi. Hap
I use a BPE PRO fletcher and have no complaints at all. I got it and Feathers for the price of 1 Bitz. It can do anything I would ever need it to do.
Bitz for 25 years or more,no problems yet
