Ron, how old is your dog? Is it the same one you had when I picked up my Shrew back in 02'? You had a beagle doing tricks as I recall.

Nope that was before they were around. Besides she's smart enough to know that she'd end up in the Pound if she did somthin like that...   :D

That was Maggie that did all the tricks, she was a real smart beagle too. Dolly is only 4 and a half years old.

Our dawg doesn't have his own bow or quiver. But he does have his own chair so he can keep watch for elk (when this pic was taken a few days ago there were between 35-40 roosies in the backyard).

Dolly likes to ride on the machines. Whenever she hears the motor start she comes running and jumps on.

She even rides on the floorboard of the scooter when I make runs to the store or Post Office. I park the bike and tell her "STAY" people stop and talk to her when I'm inside and kids even walk up and pet her but she sits right there waiting for me. Some people think beagles are stubborn and won't mind, I've never found that to be the case with the beagles that I've had.

I don't bird hunt anymore so Parker is wasted on me a bit, but he is the best retriever I've had. He does not give up looking for whatever you throw for him. Just a fantastic scouting companion and shed finder. I wish I would have had the camera along the other day when he spent 5 mins. digging out a shed antler froze under 6 inches of snow in a deer bed. The best dog of the 9 I've had so far.

Great pics, I love them all.

I lost two of my favs this past year (old age):

"Sloopy"

and "Kissie" - the fat, Chocolate Chihuahua (with "Taffy")

That left us with only 3 (and two volunteer cats) Mocha - thin Choclate Chihuahua , Taffy - Buff Chihuahua, and Camo Dog - half Beagle/half Australian Sheppard that wears desert camo colors.

Well you know we couldn't stand that too long so, two weeks ago today, we got another addition - but the only thing he hunts is food  and the grown dogs (and cats) to harass, they all spend most of their time hiding from the "new kid on the block" these days - FOR NOW - LOL

"Bozo" - Paint Chihuahua:

We're on our second Beagle and find the breed to be fantastic friends and family. This guy, Tucker, is very interested in everything. Start into something and he's got his nose right in there. Catches mice, chipmunks and squirrels. A hound dog on the squirrels.
We live in an old farm house, so the odd mouse is in here with us. Got up the other day, cat was trying to catch one, but like a cat likes to wait for her chance. Tucker charges in, grabs the mouse and then out the back door with it. Gotta get that out of the way before the wife gets up! Good boy!

"Beau"

He never came to me when I would call
Unless I had a tennis ball,
Or he felt like it,
But mostly he didn't come at all.

When he was young
He never learned to heel
Or set or stay,
He did things his way.

Discipline was not his bag
But when you were with him things sure didn't drag.
He'd dig up a rosebush just to spite me,
And when I'd grab him, he'd turn and bite me.

He bit lots of folks from day to day,
The delivery boy was his favorite pray,
The gas man wouldn't read our meter,
He said we owned a real man-eater.

He set the house on fire
But the story's long to tell.
Suffice it to say that he survived
And the house survived as well.

On the evening walks, and Gloria took him,
He was always first out the door.
The Old One and I brought up the rear
Because our bones were sore.

We would charge up the street with mom hanging on,
What a beautiful pair they were!

And if it was still light and the tourists were out,
They created a bit of a stir.

But every once in a while, he would stop in his tracks
And with a frown on his face look around.
It was just to make sure that the old one was there
And would follow him where he was bound.

We are early-to-bedders at our house--
I guess I'm the first to retire.
And as I'd leave the room he'd look at me
And get up from his place by the fire.

He knew where the tennis balls were upstairs
And I'd give him one for awhile.
He would push it under the bed with his nose
And I'd fish it out with a smile.

And before very long
He'd tire of the ball
And be asleep in his corner
In no time at all.

And there were nights when I'd feel him
Climb upon our bed
And lie between us,
And I'd pat his head.

And there were nights when I'd feel his stare
And I'd wake up and he'd be sitting there
And I'd reach out my hand and stroke his hair.
And sometimes I'd feel him sigh
And I think I know the reason why.

He would wake up at night
And he would have this fear
Of the dark, of life, of lots of things,
And he'd be glad to have me near.

And now he's dead.
And there nights when I think I feel him
Climb upon our bed and lie between us,
And I pat his head.

And there are nights when I think
I feel that stare
And I reach out my hand to stroke his hair,
But he's not there.

Oh, how I wish that wasn't so,
I'll always love a dog named Beau.

Ziggy looks too tuckered out to even dream of all the fun he must have had! How cozy, after all the brush, bunnies and frigid temps!

Smart? why I keep teling the family that Jackson is a superior hound in every way, but they don't seem to be buying it. Here he is as a pup.

A bunch of FINE companions with some pretty decent partners too it seems! Excellent thread.

Dewey
Named for going after my Mt. Dew can when 8 weeks old, all the way back from West By Golly Virginia to N. IN.

Just over 1.5 now. 62lbs , 22 inches at the shoulder and more energy than any dog NEEDS!

He knows when it's "HIS" bedtime and goes and gets "HIS" pillow to lay beside me while on the PC.

I thought I would pass myself after losing Spike after 15 years. Dew has not quite filled his "paws" but I suppose Ill always miss ol Fat Dog.
RIP Spikie Dog. I can still see him trotting before me when out with Dew.
God Bless

My dog can act Shakepeare.  To pee or not to pee, that is the question.  Actually all dogs are characters, and I'm thankful to have had a few to enrich my life.  Rocky, my English Springer was huge, 85# and could fly through the air.  He would point, flush, then swat the birds down with his paws for an instant kill.  Proudly trot back with pheasant in jaw and drop at your boots.  Brisket, my current pal, is a 70# English Bulldog who also thinks he can fly, just not as graceful as a Springer, but just as loving.  He spends his days sleeping, sleeping, eating, sleeping, and munching on ice cubes.

We just got "Charlie" in early December.  He's a rescue from a local shelter... was found roaming the streets with another dog pal.  He's a mix of Jack Russel & Pug... 11 lbs. ... I'm thinking maybe he could at least help me find a blood trail and track down deer.  He's kind of a "wuss" though... he doesn't like the cold.

Knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread. My favorite (Val, Springer) saved me from a rattlesnake 10 years ago that killed her. Many here have lost dogs too. They're waiting in Heaven I figure.

AdKen, beautys! My flat coat retriever looks similar below. Saw some English Setters..,great dogs. Not a bad looking mutt in the bunch folks! Be proud & treat 'em right. Ron, that beaut has you spoiled!

Ron,
Your beloved breed, the beagle, just won second place in the hound group at the Westminster Dog Show. Family tradition for us, we watch it every year. Several years ago on opening night I picked the winner, a German Short Hair as soon as she walked in the ring. She won 1st place overall.

Your bird dogs are beautiful on point John. Toby pointing with the dead quail in his mouth is something most bird hunters will not see in their lifetimes. I have owned literally dozens of the pointing breeds and only owned one dog that did that and he did it many times.

I really enjoy seeing pics of dogs period. Dogs give unbounded love and are loyal to their dying day. We can learn a lot from them.
