Interested in hearing what other bows are similar to BW's, that have the mass in the riser...what do you consider very similar??
Habu for sure look similar, also had a Bob Lee that had some mass to it similar to the BW.
There is (was) a Korean import knockoff that copies the Widow, but I have CRS and do not remember the name. I will edit the post when I think of it.
It was not a Widow or Habu...but he did not have to take out a loan to buy it either. :D
Its samick blackhawk
Hill Country Wildcat
Marriah Thermal and Caribow Taiga,I have both.lots of mass and very stable shooters BUT there is just something about a Widow.
rambo...you win!
In 50 yrs. of shooting nothing
Check Mate Firebird. Had one once, wish I would have kept it. Now they are no longer made.
Would this be considered close?

If you are talking mass in riser and shooting comparison- I have been very impressed with the Blacktail curve. 15 month waiting list- probably a good reason.
Hey Mudd,
What kind of long bow is that?
thank ya,
J
It's a custom bow built by our own Jess Stuart.
It feels and shoots a lot like a 3pc Black Widow.
Sweet is another way of saying it..lol
It's point-ability is right on too.
God bless,Mudd
Thanks Mudd!
Damon Howatt Diablo has the riser mass for sure.
How bout the kwyk styk and apex pretators wassaw. Similar design and with the right wood/material combo you would have similar mass weight.
Mudd love the flag in the tree, I admire your country's patriotism we need more of that here.
Browning Fire Drake, and it even has the limbs mounted the same.
Ironically, I just stuck one in the classifieds with a photo of a Widow for comparison!
I imagine the Widow is the only one with so many laminations in the riser for strength....
I imagine the Widow is the only one with so many laminations in the riser for strength....Sorry for the double post....
I imagine not. I build with an I beam and cross laminations. I didn't post because even though my bows are foreward riser they are not remotely like a Widow. They are a static recurve with a low brace height.
Check out website to see them. God bless you all and have a great day. Steve
I apprecitate the suggestions, please keep them coming.
Kajikastik by J D Lund.
If you want a heavy riser Dakota Bows is also an option. They shoot great.
I don't know the model, and I've been looking for one for a very long time (LH). Herters made a very massive riser recurve. In the fall of 1973 I shot on the outdoor range at Purdue almost daily. A bearded fellow would show up from time to time with this big-horned Herters.
It was a one-piece.
The closest thing to this Herters I've found is the Widow PA which I bought 5 days ago -- LOVE it!
If you mean in the way they shoot, that would be the Mathews compounds. But they are so ugly, who would want one of those?
My old Browning Wasp, takedown
Samick Hawkeye. In appearance only.
Stillwater "Aberdeen"
If you are fond of the weight forward riser you could do a lot worse than the old Browning Explorers.

Ben Pearson also had a "Mercury" line that had vials of mercury imbedded in the riders.
You might just have to face the bitter truth that there really is nothing like a Widow. :)
The takedown recurve that Stillwater Archery used to offer and maybe still do. And also Abowyer had models similar to the Black Widow SA before Larry became A&H Archery.
If someone would help me post a pic of my Samick Hawkeye, I have a MA and SA Black widow and this bow is a close copy of the MA and a real shooter. I don't believe they make it anymore though....Bobby
actually....the widow and others are more copies of the Browning BackPacker than anything else....Harry Drake was big in development of a few Browning recurves most notably the Browning Wasp and Browning Explorer models.
Black Widow, Habu and a few other also use the mass forward setup with limbs rear mounted. It is an efficient and stable setup though heavier than some other designs...but is solid, reliable, steady and makes a great bow.
I also think the Silvertips have the riser mass if you get the Dymonwood riser that is resin impregnated...maybe some older Bruins....
A few others that are similar in feel and function...if not specifically visual appeal.
Good luck...
