Title: Canvas tarps for hunting/camping?
Post by: Covey on February 10, 2011, 08:38:00 PM
I'm looking for opinions! Who makes good canvas tarps? I love the simplicity of a tarp, but the grommets are always a weak point. I would like to find about a 12ft by 12 or 14ft tarp for hunting/camping purposes. I know there has to be some of ya'll that use tarps on your back country hunt's. So your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks'Jason

You might try military surplus. My buddy has a canvas Army tarp that he's been using for many years. That thing is as tough as nails. Only drawback is that it would undoubtedly be a pain in the kiester to pack into the backcountry.

A campfire canvas tent is the best tarp/ tent you can get and it will be worth it when the weather goes bad.

I use a diamond fly from Panther Primitives. Also use it in 18th Century trekking.
