Must be bored, so I was just thinking... always a sketchy proposition... I've been a gun nut even a bit longer than a bow nut. Which for both, is longer than I care to think about sometimes. Anyway a common discussion I have with other seasoned (old) firearms enthusiasts is, what gun that is no longer made would we like to see come back. For me it's the Colt Diamondback, especially the 4" 38 I let slip away. A better messing around in the woods handgun hasn't been made IMHO.
Anyway are there bows no longer being crafted that you wished would make a comeback? I know some obviously can't for the artisans have passed over to the happy hunting grounds. But for me it would be a Jack Howard Gamemaster(?). I can still remember as a kid drooling over his wonderful catalogs and the color pictures of those beautiful glossy rosewood risered bows with white limbs. Heck I would just like to have one of his catalogs.
So what bow would you like to see made again?
Big East
Sovereign Bows.
Green Mountain
Dave Guthrie's Appalachian Bows. Especially the Seneca.
I'm with Biggie on this one, bring back the Appalachians. I still need a Seneca, a Little Laurel and a Savage River to complete my set.
Bear Mag risers....
Another vote for the Green Mountain longbows, excellent quality and good looks. Didn't shoot bad either....lol! In fact mine still shoots well!
Gila longbows. Sigh.
Rocky Mountain recurves and Bighorn.
Browning recurves - but then I probably wouldn't be willing to pay what they would have to charge. :biglaugh:
(Regards your Colt Diamondback - I have a 6" S&W M-14 (DA) Target Masterpiece in .38 Spl. from about 1955. Sweet small-game pistol. S&W reintroduced it for $850!)
Good call, Stumpkiller. I do love my Brownings.
Oh, Reflex trad bows, too.
Black Widow one piece MA's.
windstorm archery santa anna recurve
Fred Anderson Skookum
Windstorm recurves and longbows! Great women and youth bows too. Man, he was ahead of the times.
Red Wing Hunter, 58"
I know Bear still makes the Super Kodiak, but not like the black beauties back in '67, '68...
The Bear A Mag.
Jack Smith Blackhawk Longbows, Rick Byrd Texas Recurves, and Rockey Miller's Herritage Bows.
Jack Howard's bows. Any and all.
I wish Dick Robertson would re-introduce the finest and most graceful bow in his long line of recurves. The Prairie Falcon.
I miss those bows.
I like the old takedown Herter's. Simple limb pocket design. I'd rather have a temperature friendly (wood) riser.
Pearson Marauder One Piece
Browning Cobra
Staghorn
Rocky Miller Predator T/D
Groves Spitfire

I'm with you Burnsie...... 67, 68, 69 Super K in 64". Yep, to have a new one would be Nice!!
Tice & Watts, Jack howard, Sovereign ballistic , original 58" Red Wing Hunter, archery 2000 SST by Phil grable.
They werent for sale but it would have been cool to have been gifted a Jerry Pierce Choctaw
MASSIE. one nice shooting bow. Jeff Massie made some awesome bows!
Astro bows, mainly the Astro II.
I'll second Sleepy Hollow - Green Mountain longbows by Jim Duclos
The Ben Pearson "Jet Bow" it was my first bow as a kid, a little red ruff and tumble arrow flinging kid smiling type of bow.
Hoyt pro-hunter special, 62" left hand 50# @ 28"
Great thread Stephen. My choice would be the one piece Black Douglas from Border- discontinued about 10 years ago, or my all time no-longer-made favourite, the Bob Lee Thunderbolt. The lines of this bow are sheer elegance, and it performed almost as well.
John Schultz and Pete George longbows; Rocky Mountain recurves. Wouldn't mind seeing a Dave Paxton Talon longbow in FF configuration either!
HERTERS! I love my 2 Herters.
The John Schulz Tonkin
Gamemaster Jet.
Anything with Brazilian Rosewood.
I'm with Pete......I miss Jeff Massie and his work. :(
Pronghorn Ferret
1969 Bear Super Kodiak LH
Hey, Spanky, I have a Dave Paxton Talon made for FF. :D She's 66", 53@28, and LEFT HANDED. Has red elm limbs and bocote riser.
1959 Kodiak and 1959 Grizzly
I like to see the ole Ben Pearson Mercury Hunter and the Mercury Marauder bows come back. I have 4 Super Kodiaks are great 69,69,70, 76 models that would be nice to come back. Made the same way and same materials though.
Guthrie's Savage River takedown. (Appalation)
Dan Quillian's Longhunter longbow.
Another vote for Massie.
Bill Stewart MultiCam
Bob Lee Thunderbolt
Bear mag risers with premium limbs!!
Wing Slimline Pro
How about the Groves Spitfire recurve?
Or the Matlock longbows?
Mike
I vote for the Bear Magnesium Takedown. But maybe now they could use aluminum.
Original Bighorn one piece Asbell era.
Sley recurves, and Scorcher longbows
Green Mountain
Liberty
Gharing
I used to have an Aberdeen. Can't remember the bowyer. Awesome bow. Wish I had not sold it. Dang it!
Matt
Rick Erdman Sweptwing
Green mountin only get Jim to do a hybrid also
DAS Gen 1.
Sley recurve.
Lots of great choices guys. I completely forgot about the old Bighorns with the curved limb beds. Sure miss mine. Also Groves comes to mind.
Stumpkiller, I know what you're talking about with the S&W M-14 Masterpiece. Years back I let a buddy trade me out of my 70's vintage model, not near the quality of those made in the 50's, did a ton of bullseye shooting with it and my friend says it's he's favorite even to this day.
Thanks for the participation guys, some of the bows mentioned I'd forgotten about too - brought back some nostalgic memories.
Jack Howard's Gamemaster; Harold Grove's Spitfire and Spitfire Magnum with the wood riser; Tom Jenning's Smithwick bow line including the Citation.
Pronghorn Ferret
Black Widow CJ from the early nineties.
Man,alot of great bows and bowyers have come and gone in the last 20 years. Its too bad really! No telling what kind of bows some of these guys may have produced if they were still hanging around and tinkering with the art and design of traditonal bows.I am sure that we would all be the richer for it.The originals are certainly treasures never to be made again.
I liked my Fredericks,Brackenbury's and Matlocks quite a bit.Wish these guys were still building bows along with many of the others mentioned.
Those Rocky Mountain recurves always looked liked shooters. The Appalacians are nice looking bows and I love the scalloped tips. The Green Mountain bows remind me of Fredericks quite a bit.Would love to try one.The Massies are sweet bows as well.
Red Chavez built some nice bows as well. His static tipped recurve was way cool. The Mellenium bows were sure nice looking with beautiful lines.Jack Howards bows were bad to the bone!
I would like to see Bear come back with the 64" Kodiak 59ers,Specials and a few of the other models that were particularly known for thier shooting qualities, looks and performance.
The Morrison Dakota and Cougar are no longer available as of now. They are instant classics
now in my book.
The Deathmaster recurve was another fine bow that would be nice to see again.

Skookum by Fred Anderson, had one and it was stolen, very nice Bow.
If I had known Bob Morrison would drop his one piece Arrapaho I would have scrounged up the money fora pair and a spare. But I would have had them made into 2 part takedowns.
I always liked the looks of the habu death adder.. couldn't afford one, but really liked how they looked.. would have liked to have tried one.
Green Mountain longbows
This next request is not possible since the bowyer has passed away....Lonetree longbows
San Marco, Massie, Anything by Earl Hoyt
Bob Lee Thunderbolt 1pc recurve.
I own a Sley recurve, i believe i bought it around 1999 or 2000, very, very fast,i was told it was one of the last ones made. 62 in, 63# at 29in. I also own a 62in, one piece recurve from Dale Dye. I know he is not making as many as before. That one is a classic.
SteveB, not many people have mentioned a Sley, do you know if he is still working as a guide at the King Ranch?
on as side note, talk about a small world, i met his sister in Iraq a couple of years ago!
Wing bows with their great quivers!
I'll second the ferret.
Duncan - that was the last I heard but it has been a while. Haven't bought a bow in some time, but would get a Sley if I saw one.
Anyone remember Plainsmen One Piece Recurves...made by a guy in Montana back in the late 80's and early 90's? By far the best one piece recurve I ever shot! That thing smoke an arrow!!! Wish they were still being made!
Bob, I remember the Plainsman and agree. If memory serves me correctly, they were made by Fred Haas in Shelby, Montana.
That's the one! Nice bow!
I like the early 60's Grizzly up to 67'. The early dual shelf Cub is a great design too!
I'd like to see the Herter's line come back.
For a great all around inexpensive line of bows,Shakespeare Wonderbows.
OH yeah, I'd also like to see O' Charley Lamb put out a few more bows. What do ya think Charley? :deadhorse:
Herters
Timberspirit bows would get my vote...
Big East would be a second vote...as long as it dosn't come with all the baggage :nono:
I'm gonna list three.
1. Rocky Mountain Recurve
2. Rocky Mountain Recurve
3. Rocky Mountain recurve
Well, maybe one more, Rocky Mountain Recurve.
Any Jim and Buddy 21st Century
Pronghorn Ferret
Any Jack Howard bow
Any Jeff Massie bow
Elburg Jaguar Special and Mite
And for production bows definitely Wing!
I need to add to my earlier list......Rocky Mountain Recurve. I have one and wish I had more.
It was already mentioned but I think Bear would be smart to revive the 59 Kodiak for a special run.......
I don't think I could resist that.
Bill
Jim Johnson's Legend Longbow. I think Jim still lives in Missouri. Made a great longbow.
Northern Mist Ottawa
Thunderstick Ramhorn
Scherrinsky Challenger Longbow.....arguably still the fastest longbow ever made.
Whitebison.....he is still around I'm told but unmotivated
Another vote for Sley recurves
Robertson Peregrine, sweetest shooting bow I've ever laid my hands on.
I own two Rocky Mt Recurves and they are without a doubt one of the quietest, smoothest shooting curves I've ever owned. I'd love to see them offered for sale again.
My dream bow of bows would be a 48", or 50" Elburg Mite with the takedown sleeve option. I'd be willing to pay a cool finders fee if someone would just point me in the right direction!
Zipper Zip Stick longbow.
Dr Glenn Parker's Grey Wolf line of bows.
It's my understanding someone in Texas purchased some of Glenn's bow forms...sure wish they'd get them cranked up and going again.
A Metal Handled Bear Takedown (Aluminum or Magnesium or ...)
Dave Guthrie Elk Mountain recurve.
I would like to see the grumly bows again I think they where great looking bows
Here is my Stillwater Aberdeen. I wish I did not sell it. It is in Italy or Spain now. Dang it.

Rocky Mountain Recurve
Dwyer Dauntless ... I know he still makes them, but I had a 64 inch bow. He never made but one of them ... damn my ignorance for ever selling it!!! :banghead:
Bob.
Stemmler Mongol II 48" 48# @ 28. I was teaching my collage roommate to shoot and he snapped it in too. I've never found another short recurve to compare.
MAP
"QuarterMoon" anything.
50 # to 55# @ 28"
Bert
Elburg Cheetah
Jack Harrison HHC made by Jack.
Ben Pearson Cougar longbow, dual shelf.
Rainman, I don't plan on selling or trading it, but here's some eye candy for ya.
Top one in this pic. 58" 62@28, cocobolo riser and overlays and curly maple limbs. Static tips with the perfect recurve grip for me. Top bow in the first pic.

My vote would be for both the brownings and shakespeares. They both made some fine bows back in the day.
Bear needs to re-make the 59 Kodiak.
I'd also go with the Sovereign Ballistik. R.I.P John.
Chaparrel Alpine recurve.
I may have missed it but I dont think anyone has mentioned the Super Diablo.
Eatman 66.
rocky mt curve , chaparrel
Jim and Buddy 21st century Nova.
I'd vote for the Rocky Mountain recurve as well.
Thanks Kevin, I still regret selling mine 12 years later but it was 68# at 28" and I have been out of the Marines to long to shoot 68# any more.
Semper Fidelis,
Dan
chaparrel kabob, not sure if I spelled this right but these bows were shooters.
It's not an old model, but Brandon Stahl should bring back his Rose Oak Companion. In the last year I have become a real fan of something I can no longer get.
How about the Savage Deathmaster, and I love the Rocky Mountain Recurve as well.
Rocky Mountain Recurve!!!
St. Charles' Thunderbird
Green Mountain.
Eatmon 66 ,Savage Deathmaster,Tice and Watts-I should have bought from Sergio! and Carrols takedown in a Wood riser or light Magnesium camoed by Big Jim,and the2000SSt by Phil Grable with replacement limbs by Brandon Stahl.
Quite a lineup. Wish I'd have had the chance to enjoy all those, too. My own list would be headed by Val Sorrentino(RIP). He didn't make bows to sell, though you had to give him some money to get one. We never met face-to-face, but we had many long conversations and saw eye-to-eye on a lot of things about this life. He had a gift for simple elegance in a bow, and they shot so well! I still have the bows he made for me, but I'd just like to talk with him again.
Also, the bow shooting public lost something when Rick Lepp quit making the Bow River bows. They were very under-appreciated, and that's a real shame. Good straightforward designs that were easy to shoot well.
There's a lot of glamor in some of the bows today....and, I'll admit, it often dazzles me as well. But, I find it interesting that nearly all these bows we wish were still around didn't have much of it. Are we just nostalgic for a simpler time. Nah, more likely we'd like to have all that we have today.......AND all those oldies but goodies!!!
Good thread -thanks!
I'd have to say a Nel's Grumley bow or a 1959 Kodiak would be on my wish list. Also the black and white Bear Super Kodiak from the late sixties would be in the mix.

I completely agree. I have one of the 8 that he built.
mine.
Nothing like the thrill of getting your first custom bow!
Massie.
yeah that 59 Kodiak by Bear was nice...thankfully Vintage Works makes one that rivals the original. Beautiful bows...pure essence of tradition and artistic creativity.
Sovereign Ballistik. I really wished I had got a set of heavier and lighter limbs. John Fazio died shortly after I got my bow.
I wish I had one of my fathers, uncles, grandpas...an old one from before there were training wheels that I could carry this fall... but I don't.
Ernie Root the old shakespeare Recurves, cheap, realiable and consistant
The old 68" Ben Pearson "Palomino" recurve. I have a "thing" for long length recurves.
The only things I'd like to see improved on it, it being custom made where the poundage is measured at one's own personal draw length and dark limbs.
altho I love my "Dave" made silvertip
a few thousand more Paul made tips would have been cool..
Cochise
Original SUPER D
BIGHORN
I forgot one, there was a gentleman, who passed away few years back, made a flatbow, name of bows was Bowcraft, and wow, that thing could shoot, wish that would come back.
Rocky Mountain, Bighorn!
Any Bill Stewart bow
Chuck
Rose Oak Super Wildcat, I was just about to order one when the plug got pulled on them.
Timberline Longbows by Pete George
Kodiak Hunter, can't believe I'm the first to post it.
Just the 3rd. vote for Super Diablo!?
Penn Archery Works by Marc Lauver. These were great bows with awesome craftmanship......IJ
The sweetest shooting Ron Maulding Tamarak 88 70" lb at 80#@28" I broke 2 weeks ago.
Stephen,Same spelling as mine and so are your interests.I can't believe theres two of us!
I owned a Jack Howard and like a young fool sold it,but........I've still got the catalog and glossy picture.Pm me my friend for info how to steal this from me !LOL

It's hard to believe that Brandon has so much talent that he has to keep moving on. I have three of his discontinued bows and he could bring them all back.
Alaska pennisulla longbows
SLEY bows were extremely good shooters best I remember.
ADCOCK pre-ACS bows
Robertson Peregrine, great shooting bows.
Kodiak Hunter with the pau ferro and whatever brown riser.
Wing Presentation Hunters
Gary Sentman's longbows. He also made the funkiest looking hybrid in the last years of Moose Jaw that was super sweet. I'd like one of them. Sovereign Ballistik
I don't remeber if I posted on this or not but here's my take....
Sovereign Ballistik and Trident...heck the entire Sovereign line.
Gharing had some good looking bows that don't come up for sale too often.
Browning had a very interesting line of bows, along with Harry Drake designs.
For recurves I would like to see Sovereign bows again and the Bear '67.5 through '69 Super Kodiaks but with bambbo lams.
For longbows I would like to see Ron Maulding build some Hill bows again.
The current bowyers out there are making them great and have some great reproductions like John making the '59er and Super Kodiaks. RER is very similar to the Sovereign and there are other great bowyers making longbows so we always have alternatives.
Ron built me my first hunting longbow and a quiver in the early '80s. I still have that bow and hunted with it for a lot of years.
I would say John Schulz but I think Craig is making them as good or better these days.
Carrolls' takedown with metal riser, smoothest bow I ever owned.
Mongo
Wing Presentation 11's.Shot one for over 20 years. Never heard of a Presentation "hunter".
Please enlighten me.
Drake Hunter Flight
Texas commanche static recurve by Curtis byrd and son im looking for a lefty .
Jerry Pierce Choctaw, just so I could see my late friend again... :( :(
Bear Kodiak Hunters, in Bubinga, with the high grip profile like the 68 or 69. One of the best shooting Bears ever made, and IMHO, better than the SK. My 68 is like an extension of my hand, a perfect, fast handeling bow for quick, instinctive shooting at game.
A Yellow Jacket "Wasp" longbow made by Gerald Johnson, I bought it through Raptror Archery. Also one production bow, a Martin "Saber", that thing is fast!
Arkansas Stick Caddo by Terry Hughes. I know the Caddo is made now by Roy Hall and it's a fine bow just not quite the same to me. I'm fortunate to own 2 of Terry's Caddos.
BOB
Heck I'll add my idea.
I think one of the most under rated bow was the Bear Hunter. I had one once ( the bow I started with) & let it get away. I'd like to see them again.
Frank
zebra longbows
I'm sure it's been said, but the early curved bed Bighorns and Wing Presentations.
Sovereign or Windstorm
Earl Hoyt 4 or 5 PMH . Beautiful, smooth and super accurate.
Fredrick longbows by Fritz Jonk
1960 to 1961 Black Widow recurve but not with painted risers like the originals. I would like the remake to have wider limbs. The original limbs were real skinny. Riser shape was fantastic and the risers were not an overkill of heavy wood as they were just a few years later. 1963 risers were way too large for my taste. The early Balck Widows were simple nd fantastic shooters. Best design they ever had and I don't understand why they don't produce them now. Lots of the top shooters I used to watch at the regionals and large field archery events in the early sixties won tournaments with them. The Wilson Brothers themselves were good shooters and would show up at the Southwest Open.
Also would like to see the 1962 Kodiak. It is already being reproduced with great success, but have to wait a very long time if you order one. Too old to wait so I have a '61 and '62 originals I shoot and like.
Game Master Jet by Jack Howard
Rocky Mountain Recurve and Matlock
Does anyone have pics of a Rocy Mountain recurve? With so many people saying how great they are I am curious to see them.
OL Adcock ACL CX
I posted on this thread a couple years ago and it's still the same answer from me, Pete George's Timberline longbows
Chek-mate hunter 1
Dean Torges bamboo backed osage with his fantastic dye jobs on the wood. :) He never sold one to my knowledge...but wish he was still making them so I could hopefully get one and put it next to a favorite from Joe Mattingly and John Strunk. :)

If you want to see pretty much exactly what the Rocky Mountain recurves looked like go to this link. They are re-creations.
