Title: Masking modern to look traditional!!!!!
Post by: YORNOC on February 08, 2011, 08:02:00 PM
I've done a few of these now, "traditionalizing" ILF metal riser recurves, with custom camo paint jobs and skins, horn, antler, etc.
This one is for a guy who is the best shot I've ever seen in my lifetime, and the only guy I've seen draw a 120# longbow to anchor. He just broke the world record for 55 and over powerlifting championships.  Going bear/moose hunting with him in Kake Alaska in September. You can bet I'll walk in BEHIND him!

That is really neat, and I hate metal risers. I like how they perform ,just not how they feel!Nice job!

I love to shoot them myself, but I just cant warm up to them. Nothing like a chunk of highly grained sculpted wood in hand when in the timber.
Ever had a metal bow in hand when its 15 degrees out??  YIKES!!! The cold from that riser goes right through a chopper's mitt!  Can't beat the accuracy though.

Beautiful bow, love that riser. I like metal risers, my main go to bow is a 1970's Astro II.

Dave: I love your work. Where can I find a couple of young Mooses, like your friend. Want too hunt Alaska, with my Old Best friend. He turns 70 this year, been hunting together for 42 years this year. He seems to be slowing down a little. Great Pics.

Thanks Don

Zach, they are bull snake. You have your hands full with that diamondback!!!

Rick, no templates, just freehand them. If you track in the woods do you ever find a perfect matching track in the mud? Never, so some imperfections between them are perfectly acceptable.

Longstykes, when I get back from this Alaska hunt, I'm going to do a write up on it. Very inexpensive, pretty much self guided but "helped" along the way.
