a toxophilite is apparently a lover and expert of bows and archery, I never knew this, I one day hope to be a true toxophilite!!
I doubt I ever make it to that level...lol
But I am a "bowaholic" does that count for anything?
God bless,Mudd
"Toxophilus" written in 1545, seems like only yesterday. :readit:
Yep. Toxophilist, lepidopterist, phelatilist, numismatist & occasional ornithologist.
Google them ;)
The definitions I've seen don't connotate being an expert as much as a lover of archery. I think we all would qualify! :jumper:
No, but I heard of somebody getting abducted by them once.
I am. But I've never heard of it being tied to being an expert. An expert, I am not! I've got bunches to learn. Doubt I'll ever get there.
But, I'm workin' on it. It just never ends.
100% Toxophilite
Darren
Yep
I do not think I am a Toxophilite. I just enjoy archery. After 40 years, I am still learning something new every day. :goldtooth:
Lover of archery - Yes
Addicted - Yes
Expert - by no means
"Toxophilus" is an ancient Greek word and means the friend the lover of archery, the man that want to learn all about it and lives with bows and archery in his heart.no need to be an expert just to have great love about it.i personally think that all TradGangers are truly Toxophilus!!
Sounds like a good word for a fancy pants social drinker.....
I'm no expert by a long shot but I do love Archery so at least I have half of it down.
Sure is a heck of a word to use in a conversation.
I am in the lower class 'Aficionado'.
Earl
My Name is Mark and I am a toxophilite. :help: :archer: :archer2:
I am trying very hard to be.
You can get them off by using duct tape except from fleece.
I'm mainly just a bowhunter. If I couldn't hunt, I'm not sure I'd even be shooting a bow. Clint
I do love the Bow and everything that comes with it. The tuning, the making of arrows, the shooting, the learning of new ways and techniques, as well as my favorite the Hunt.
Is this what the beginning of the off season is cumming to.I now have to have a dictionary when I log on. :knothead: :goldtooth:
I like beer and bowhunting enough said.
If "yes" does that make you Intoxophiliated?
Eric
Good one Eric :biglaugh:
Lover of traditional archery..yes. Expert, I should live so long.
This is a good post, I think all here are lovers of the sport.
I'm with GRINCH.
I thought it ment big lizardâ™
Does it involve monogamy? Cause there's no way I can be married to only one bow!
Huh, Do what? Ok sure, yep, me to! :D Jason
yup yup yup very Interesting
I'm from Missouri.....show me, :help:
I guess I am a toxophilite wannabe
I've been called lots of things... but I never been called one of those!
I'd be last in line for that one
Merely a participating student.
Sounds like something you could get beaten/arrested for declaring around here. Of course, after you explained it was a Greek word you'd be shot...
Just kidding...Kind of...
I think that declaring yourself a taxophilite could put you on the homeland security watch list, the no fly list, and it could damage your credit. I am a musician, just a harmless musician. A guitarphilite.
I sure do love my archery, but I am no expert. I think I might of hurt myself just trying to say that word!
Encarta's Definition:
an archer or archery enthusiast
I am the second, so therfore I are a Toxophilite!
Nope, never touch the stuff!
Eric
Seriously though, all of our camulitive lifetimes wouldnt be long enough for me to become an expert. But I still dearly love watching an arrow fly.
I always thoght that if I couldnt hunt I wouldnt shoot any more. But, today I shoot and look forward to the hunt. If I couldnt hunt I would probaly still shoot and look back on the hunts and memories.
Eric
First time I saw this was in Saxton Pope's "Hunting with the Bow and Arrow." It seems that he was describing Latins, Peruvians and the Irish as being as far from toxophilites as they cold be. (:

What he said...lol
It never gets old for me, I think Fred Anderson explains it the best in the beginning of his new book...DB
Seems like ToxophilitesRUS.
Around here, an expert is someone who's more than 50 miles from home. ExpertsRUS.
I reckon im just a toxoph then. that is half a toxophilite.
I do not consider myself a toxophilite but I do go by the moniker Texophilite. L.
I am too fat to be a toxophilite, I am more like a toxophilheavy. Some how my front got bigger and I am not pregnant.
I met a toxophilite once, he said "Your bows and your arrows are simply gorgeous and you must tell me how you coordinated your wool ensemble, it really really works for you."
I consider myself a toxophilite. Even used the prefix for my outdoor website.

I don't think there is a true expert because that would mean you know it all and even the experts keep learning new things that they didn't
