I had a great hunt this past weekend with my buddy Irv from WI at my friend Terry's lease. The acorns were really dropping which made hunting over feeders pretty tough.Even the small live oaks were dropping.
I was seeing some hogs rooting but not coming in with all of the readily available mast.
Terry was able to connect the first evening on the only hog he saw.He made a great heart shot and watched it go down.
Irv and I were having less luck but Saturday evening that would change...
Come on James. Tell the story. Your killing me. Lol!
From my stand, I was seeing some hogs in the pasture rooting around, they were off the lease and thereby off limits. Perfect conditions for a stalk, too.Got some video, though.
After lunch and some pinecone shooting in camp, we returned to the stands.
A drowsy hour passed on stand, still nothing, not even a squirrel.Just a couple of doves that kept busting me everytime I moved.
As the sun started setting, I heard something big coming through the palmettos.........
:coffee:
And.............. Man, don't keep us in suspense, it's cruel :nono:

The wind had died down and I could hear something coming through the thick cover behind the stand. Too big to be an armadillo or squirrel, but I couldn't see anything where the sounds were coming from (that are now only yards from the stand)?
Finally, I see a hog coming through the palmetto fronds, with two more behind it.
Instead of going straight to the corn, they go around to the "wrong" side heading for a fence crossing.
Oh no, I thought, eight yards away and no shot through the limbs!Video camera was on the wrong side, too.
The lead boar turns around and charges the closest hog giving me the chance I needed......
Be back soon, I promise. (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/HoghuntatTerrys004.jpg)Foggy morning. (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/HoghuntatTerrys007.jpg)

The hogs were moving around and looked about ready to fight when I started my draw on the closest boar.
The bigger boar pushed him, and as he did, moved into my small shooting lane(more like a hole through the limbs). I focused on the bigger boar and shot. He took a step as the arrow was flying and it took him through the neck where it joins the body. Lots of blood came out and he tore out of there, crossed a fence and stopped at around 75 yards. He was staggering around and his hindquarters were failing.
I quickly got down and made my way over to him(downwind!)Truth be told, I thought he might charge me. When I came around some trees he was on his side and kicking. I put in a finishing shot and took a recovery video with the little camera light I had left.
Congratulations! Was it eating oranges? Inquiring minds want to know!
The boar was good sized, 125 lbs? He had a thick fighting shield but small cutters. He should be good eating, no rank smell like some boars.
Equipment: Kohannah Kurve 52#@29", Gold Tip trad arrows, EFA quiver,Magnus 2 blade(it created an amazing blood trail) (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/HoghuntatTerrys011.jpg)
Exciting! Excellent story & hog.

Very nice! Where in Fl were you hunting? The pics look very similar to the areas I hunted in Sarasota and Manatee counties. The hog hunting there was fantastic! That's about the only thing I miss about Florida.
Once again, very nice, photos and story!
Tom
Great story and pics. Your not close to Naples are you? I am actually here on vacaction. I would love to find somewhere to go hog hunting anually. My wife's family has a place here. This is my first time down. Didn't bring any gear, but won't make that mistake again. This place looks invested with game.
Good times, thanks for the pics!
The hunt took place near Clewiston,Fl.
Thanks for the comments guys. Going again in a couple of weeks(different ranch).
Spurs, PM sent.

Cool. I spent some time in Clewiston when I was working with my uncle's construction company. We were building a strip mall in the mid '90's. We didn't get to hunt there but, we did take the opportunity to do some of the best crappie (They called them specks down there) fishing ever in Lake Okeechobee. I would have never thought we could catch that many big crappie with nothing more than an expandable, fiberglass, cane type pole.
I guess I miss that a little also...

Dutch oven hog roast!
(the recipe dates back to 16 (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/hogroast008.jpg)40 England)
Almost done! ;)
Mmmmmmmmmmm....
Great going. Thanks for sharing all the pics and story. Hoping I have some to share next week from S Texas.
Congrats....nice hogs,good food.
Nice work Buddy!
Nice! Great fun and good eats in Florida.
Thanks for taking the time to share the moments.
Good job on a nice hog! Way to go! :notworthy:
The pork came out great. The recipe calls for soaking it two days in a brine mixture. That made the difference I think.
Probably the best wild pork I've had.
Great Story and congrats on a good pig.Job well done.
Great job,pig hunting is really addicting.
Never thought it would happen but hogs have become my favorite animal to hunt. Deer number 2 and squirrels a close third.
Great job!!!
The meat cooking in the Dutch oven sent me over the edge...gotta get something to eat now!
