Title: Essential Encounters
Post by: flyfish1 on February 06, 2011, 09:06:00 PM
What is the status of the dvd? Did anybody get any info at Kalamazoo? Last I saw the guys thought they would possibly have some at expo.

There is a long thread about this.  Issues with quality on the  copies.  Last I read they were not in the mail, but sounds like they are close.

They are having problems with the company doing the DVD replicating.  The brothers will not alow them to put out anything but perfection.  Gene, Barry, Mike, David, and Mark are doing everything they can to make sure we have the DVD they intended it to be in our hands ASAP.

It is not only frustrating to us, but very frustrating to the brothers.  They have worked very hard on this and believe it will surpass Primal Dreams in every way.

If the "teaser loop footage" shown at Kzoo was any indication, this video is going to be fantastic!

Nice to know the brothers are fighting for a quality product.  Excited to see it!  Will fill the "deer season is over and turkeys are not here yet" blues.

The quality of this site and the quality that the "Brothers" put out is not a coincidence. It will be worth the wait.

Primal Dreams was a class A movie type production to me. Don't see how this one could be better but I've got it on order. Not the least bit concerned with a delay.

I've ordered 4 copies and have already given away 2 of them. Even the guys I gave them to are willing to wait till I receive them to get theirs.
Don't know anyone that isn't willing to wait for a quality piece of work. And don't know anyone that has any issues with the Brothers.
But Biggie has a point, at times they do have shifty eyes   .

Yeah what huntryx said! I would love a teaser while I wait patiently for it to arrive. I don't mind waiting either, if it is half as good as primal dreams it will be worth it in my book.

Post by: Gary Logsdon on February 07, 2011, 01:55:00 PM
After reading the "stinging comment" on the earlier post I guess I need to weigh in on this.  When it comes to the Essential Encounters project I'm an "insider"; the DVD jacket and disk art are mine as well as the print and Web promotion. Here's what I know: This film is very close to the Wensel and Mitten brothers hearts.  It represents years of videography, music selection, narration, and editing work and is nothing short of a labor of love . . . this thing is full of blood, sweat, and tears, not to mention a substantial financial committment.

For the record, there's probably no one reading this that wants to see the finished product any more than I do, however, sometimes a project runs into totally unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the producers.  The guys fully expected to have the first delivery of DVDs from the replicator by Kalamazoo, however, upon seeing the product about to be delivered decided to bite the bullet and redirect. The decision was made to delay release in order to insure that their DVD was presented in the best possible way.  Each time a decision to delay production was made it was to insure technical quality and to maintain their artistic vision.

From the beginning there has been a committment to excellence and this is certainly not the time to compromise for the sake of deadlines drawn in the sand.  As we all know those "lines" often shift whenever the winds blows and the direction can be fickle at that. As many have already posted, it's sure to be completed soon and will definitely be worth the wait.

Gary.  I am pretty certain that most of us really want to see it,  but could wait as long as we need to for it to be right.

As long as the boys come straight and tell us what's up (and they have)I for one don't care if it takes another month or two.

I loved the first one, and I hear that this one is as good or better.  I don't want to see a crap copy just to get it out to us.   Let them take what time is needed and get us something that we will treasure.

Course, I think they just may have shifty eyes as stated above.  I am gonna go hunt with them Wensel's in a month at Lamb's head and I will shake Barry upside down at that point (with help. .  I'm not Schaef)if need be.   Actually, that might be fun anyway !

Take your time.  We can wait.

Yeah I am with Biggie on this one, they do have shifty eyes. I guess you could depend on Marty to stand up for Gene, after all it was Gene who bragged on Marty's chicken stalking abilities last year. Meber' that Marty?

I received this email from Gene's wife, Donna last week.  Top notch folks, and no problem for me.  Delays happen due to unforseen circumstances and "technical difficulties".  It'll be worth the wait.

Donna wrote:
"I am sorry about the delay in your DVD, Essential Encounters.  We have been having a great deal of problems with the company who are reproducing our DVD. They have missed three dead lines for our order.  We are trying to settle this as soon as possible.  We are ready to pull the plug and start with another company.  We hope to have your copy in your hands as soon. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact me.  Again we are all very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Both The Wensels and Mittens are working on this problem."

I sent my money in for two copies in early January and don't mind the wait.  It's a small price to pay for what we know will be a fantastic dvd.  Wensel/Mitten productions are about the only dvd's that get repeated use at my home.  Most of the others you can hardly sit thru once.  Jim

Just for the record I have purchased many books and videos from the Wensels and have been to at least 3 of Genes seminars when he used to do them. One of which I traveled 150 miles one way. The Wensels are some of the biggest jokesters there are. Buck urine in the control room? No sarcasm intended. Boys, take all the time in the world.

Yeah you're right- I wouldn't know funny unless it bit me on the ass.
If  I read it incorrectly, please accept my humble apology. I know how much frustration the Wensel's and Mitten's are going through and reacted instead of responding appropriately. Just seemed appropriate at the time.

We do have a sarcasm button here....
it looks like this.   :biglaugh:
I'd bet my life if you put those stupid little faces in there you wouldnt have gotten pounced on and Barry and Gene would have joked Back.
I never took Offense, But I forgive you.
Either Way, were all still waiting.  and worth it I'm sure...

It'll be out when it gets out guys.  Geez.  My nephew has been talking about the new Batman movie...and has not been as testy about the wait as some of the guys waiting for this video!
By the way...of the three...I think if you were to combine Uncle Gene, Uncle Barry...and Mike into one person...Batman would have to find a new niche!
Title: Re: Essential Encounters
Post by: jonsimoneau on February 07, 2011, 10:11:00 PM
Also..I heard that Angelina Jolie (sp?) is coming out with a movie where she does a nude scene.  If that movie and "Essential Encounters" shows up in my mail box at the same time...I can tell you it will be hard to determine which "Encounter" would be more "Essential"  HA!
I'm sure Gene and Bary are putting the hurt on some Texas pigs right now.  Be patient guys.  You will probably forget all about the wait when it gets here! Nobody has EVER made a video that more accurately portrays hard-core bowhunters than these guys.  The waiting is part of the fun!

You only had to watch the Wensels and Mitten watch some of the final scenes with Whip and LeClair at Kzoo to see how proud they were of their work and how dissapointed they were that they couldn't provide it to the folks at that time. The little we saw was impressive.

I was with Mike Mitten yesterday, it was awesome to meet him, talk with him and see some of his achievements. Some of the greatest achievements come from the compiling of all the film footage that he and his brothers have taken as well as the Wensels. Primal Dreams is as great as everyone says, who could argue? It is an awesome way to tell a very moving story. Mike gave my girl friend Ellen and I a good look at Essential Encounters. It was an early version that has glitches in it. This new DVD is so good that the quality of the finished product needs to be as perfect as the quality of the content. I saw the glitches as Mike pointed them out. The Wensels and Mittens are doing everyone good by standing by their committment to on offer the best they can give us. I can say from what I saw, I'm even more excited to get my own copy in my hands asap! It's everything they have been saying it is, a perfect follow to Primal Dreams and I can say in all truthfulness and sincerity, it is all that Gene says it will be. If you liked Primal Dreams you will love Essential Encounters. Whats crazy is the amount of time these men put into this effort. The tons of hours and all that you didn't see that wasn't added or even filmed. This kind of work only comes from deep passion which influences all of us that knows what that fire feels like. God Bless them and the story they tell.

You mean those boys are still in the country??? I figured they were in some warm non-extradition Caribbean country, drinking fruity alcoholic beverages with umbrellas on top of them and laughing about how they took all of those goofs on TG by "telling them they had a new movie coming out."

Gene and Barry are in Texas and can't read these post. I feel and understand all of your anxiety and can laugh with you if WE all weren't so frustrated. Thank you so much for the kind words 1screagle. You truly are a great artist. 1screagle dropped off a picture he etched into solid granite. We as traditional bowhunters always seem to want to connect to our past. In this case Paul and Bart are showcased in rock from Kenn's hands. Essential Encounters will also connect you to our past. Know that I am waiting along with you guys, and feel your excitement. I hope the moderators can see we are all in this together and please don't hold to much weight to our gesting. Thank you all for your support. We are greatly humbled. Mike

When viewing Essential Encounters, one can only see beauty in every story that is told. Through this visual awesomeness, comes the vivid dreams of being in that very place, seeing puffs of an exhale and seeing detail of whiskers on a whitetails face. The sounds of being in the wilderness adds to the visual, when closing your eyes you'll swear you feel the breeze from the wings of birds passing by. The heartfelt narration and words of wisdom flow like the wind around and thru the stories created by this wonderful work of art! Truely no other word to decribe anything that stirs your soul as beautifully as this labor of love. Can't wait for mine!

It's worth the wait guys. Gene and Barry started previewing the DVD Monday night at Pig Gig. The photography is outstanding. And their commentary as it went along was priceless. They pointed out details that I probably never would have noticed. And it was really interesting to hear a history of particular deer - how they had both passed on a deer for a few years or how a couple of very unique deer simply disappeared. It's not all hunting. Ever seen a deer have a sneezing fit? It's all there.

Maybe I should clarify. Their commentary is not on the video. It's what we heard from them in person.

Not 100% certain on this, but there's a rumor floating around that the Mittens cut a deal with the replication company to delay DVD delivery until Gene and Barry return from Texas . . . that way the twins can get off their butts and personally delivery each and every DVD by hand.  Gotta hand it to Mike, Whitey, and Mark, always looking to provide their costumers with that personal touch;^)!

Is anyone going to have some of the Essential Encounters DVD's for sale at the Midwest Expo?

Just wanted to bring this up as Mike had the granite artwork that Kenn Paulson did of Paul Schafer and Bart Schlyer on page 4 of this thread at Compton this weekend.

It is even more impressive in person!

Kenn is going to be doing a piece for the 50th Anniversary of The Professional Bowhunters Society to be auctioned off at the Gathering in Portland next March.
