In response to the increased interest lately, I ask the Gang if any one had a 1 & 1/4 250 grain VPA Terminator I could borrow...well Benny came through! Thanks Benny!! As soon as I got it out of the box, I liked what I saw! Well built broadhead for sure! Next I took it to the range to do some comparison "testing" against my tried and true Snuffer 145s. Nothing formal or scientific...I just wanted to see how they compare.
My Snuffer arrows were Beeman MFX 400s with 100 grain brass insert. The Snuffer was 145 with 30 grain aluminum insert. Total point weight is 275.
My VPA arrows were same Beeman MFX 400s with a 15 grain aluminum insert. This totaled 265 point weight.
I shot each a few times just to see if flight characteristics were the same. They were! What I had never noticed before is the "hiss" of the Snuffers! I knew they made some noise just had grown accustomed to it I guess! VPA makes none! It was eerie quiet! For the record, I don't think the Snuffer hiss is an issue :)
Next, I shot each into a piece of cardboard to get an idea if cutting diameters were similar. They were! Again, nothing scientific, but just looking, I can't see a lot of difference!
Last, I decided to see if they were as easy to sharpen. Since it is Benny's head, I wanted this test to be minimally damaging, so I skipped the files stage I usually use and went straight to a Smith's Diamond stone! About 20 progressively lighter stokes per 2 blade side and it was scary sharp!
My only concern left is cost...but if they prove as durable in the field as they look, I'm sold!

Good info....thanks.
Bob,
That Terminator is even one of the old original prototypes made from different carbon steel. All of the new ones are alot better tool steel. (Hence the cost)
Good to know! Will the new one's sharpen as easily?
"Good to know! Will the new one's sharpen as easily?"
Yes, they will sharpen just as easy, they will just be a tougher broadhead.
Good stuff Bob...VPA's are an awesome BH!
I'm with you, the hiss of Snuffers never really bothered me, and don't think it made a diff. in my success with them...
But silence is golden!
Now that some bigger 1 1/4" are going to be availible again, although limited, I'm happy!
Regular size for hogs and tuff critters, and the slightly bigger ones for turkeys, deer, and about everything else.
Can't say enough good about VPA's...tuf as can be, silent in flight, great steel, and sharpen very easy with the perfect grind
I want those quarters for hogs!? thanks for the tease
Jason
I guess Big Jim will holler at us who signed up for the Bhds?
Jason
So the 250's are 1 1/4 ?
Drew the reg. 250's are the same 1 1/8th as the others.
The 1 1/4" were availible for a while, and again now thru Big Jim on a limited run.
I hope they really catch on with a lot more folks so we can keep them availible...
The VPA's are flat out awesome!
Its nice to have a solid machined head with no joints, welds, screws ect
They are Very strong, iv already killed several animals with them.
If you'v been considering them, Get some and give them try you will not be disappointed.
Drew the standards are 1 1/8" but i believe they will run a Batch of 1 1/4" 250gr screw in's through Big Jims bow Company.
Thanks Guys , I was hoping the 250 glue on where 1 1/4 " . Thanks Drew
I like the looks of the Terminators but the cost is waaaaay out of my price range, it will make the cost of my arrows well into the 25+ dollar range per arrow, I just can't see spending that much unless I were to go for an African hunt. I'll stick to my snuffers!!!
I love the VPA's. In my opinion they are a much better investment than the snuffers or the woodsmans. I shot the other 2 for a while and they are great heads, but they bend and break. I like to shoot an arrow out of my stand into the ground every sit. Before I get down in the AM and when I get in in the PM. I'll also shoot a squirrel now and then. With the hard ground and tons of rocks here I destroyed countless heads. I have not broken a Terminator yet. I chipped the very tip on one and was able to get it back with a file in no time. I've lost a few but never really damaged one. Started shooting them in the spring and 4 toms and 4 deer later i am super happy with them.
Glad you like the broadhead Bob. On the package it says "prototype". Keep the head...use it...abuse it...kill something with it...it's on the house
Benny
Dang Benny! Thanks!! I'll try and get something with it before the week is out!! I am anxious to see what they will do! :bigsmyl:
Motorhead, Like you, I'm fairly loyal to Snuffers! Been using them since the 80's when Roger was making them one at a time. But I don't think the durability is comparable! The VPAs appear tough as nails! Seriously...they look indestructible!! If so, they should out last the Snuffers and prove more cost effective in the long run...we'll see! I'm at low stock on the Snuffers and the future of Snuffers seems uncertain with Magnus selling the line...just seems like a good time to switch I guess ;)
QuoteI hope they really catch on with a lot more folks so we can keep them availible...
Ditto!!!!
Just wanted to give you guys an update. Heads are being made. I am still short on sales, but felt that it was worth getting started on. I was able to get some of the heads in a 200g glue on. Some of you who have committed may prefer those and there may be others looking for just that. Let you friends know since the glue on heads are just a small portion of the overall total. Same price, same size, just glue on.
Drewbow, I have the 1 1/2" big jim heads in 250g glue on heads if you are interested.
thanks, bigjim
